About

MOTION CITY SOUNDTRACK IN CONCERT:

Since bursting onto the scene in the early '00s with the rollicking single "The Future Freaks Me Out", pop punk rockers Motion City Soundtrack have continually impressed fans and critics alike with their shout-along hooks, punchy drums, and battling guitars. In concert frontman Justin Pierre belts out emo-tinged, tongue-in-cheek lyrics with his signature falsetto, infusing each song with raw emotion that's perfectly complemented by the band's infectious exuberance. Especially entertaining is keyboardist Jesse Johnson, who hops over his keys, cranks out the cowbell, and mans the moog synthesizer, which has become a staple of the band's sound. Known for bringing their “A” game whenever they hit the stage, Motion City Soundtrack fervently perform fan favorites like "Everything Is Alright”, "L.G. FUAD” and “My Favorite Accident” along with recent hits “Her Words Destroyed My Planet” and “True Romance" at their crowd-pleasing live shows.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Former high school friends Joshua Cain and Justin Pierre formed Motion City Soundtrack in Minneapolis in 1997. After multiple lineup changes, the band finally solidified in 2002 with the addition of bassist Matt Taylor, drummer Tony Thaxton, and keyboardist Jesse Johnson. Later that year they dropped their debut album I Am The Movie, which was re-released a year later by Epitaph Records after the breakout success of single "The Future Freaks Me Out". Their sophomore album, 2005's Commit This To Memory, was produced by Blink 182 bassist Matt Hoppus and boasted the hit single "Everything is Alright". Over the next few years the band toured extensively, both as a headlining act and as an opener on Blink 182's 2009 world tour, where they brought venues like Aztec Theatre to capacity. They made their major label debut in 2010 with My Dinosaur Life -- an edgier, more experimental album released on Columbia Records -- but they returned to Epitaph for 2012's Go. With their highly anticipated Commit This To Memory 10 Year Anniversary Tour slated for 2015, ticket buyers are jumping at the chance to see these veteran indie rockers in concert.

Motion City Soundtrack put on a fantastic show! Their opener was really good, new to me but not anymore. Comedian was ok but pulled it off! Venue was and usually is wonderful, sounded great and the people were cool.

  • Always Amazing

This is the 7th time I've seen MCS live and the second time I've done VIP seating at HOB Orlando. The band is always amazing and the VIP seating is equally fantastic. I will travel wherever I need to to see MCS but HOB Orlando is one of my favorite venues.

  • So. Much. Fun.

  • Great time!

by Wanna be a bala on 6/30/22Buckhead Theatre - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

The guys did a great job, it’s a fun time to hear all those songs that I’ve enjoyed for so many years. The band played well and even though Justin was obviously sick they played what had to be over 20 songs, an entire album and then many more. I was impressed. The Buckhead Theater is also an awesome place. Could use better food though.

  • Incredible show!!

    by Eazyecoheed16 on 6/29/22The Fillmore Charlotte - CharlotteRating: 5 out of 5

The Fillmore is always a fun venue, so no complaints there! Motion City Soundtrack was everything I thought it would be! Thought I wouldn't get to see them live after they broke up, but I'm so glad I did. The 17th anniversary of Commit This to Memory was well worth going! They played all the hits from there other albums after which was dope. So happy that they kept trying to get the tour in since it was cancelled twice for covid. Other than Coheed & Cambria this band live was right there with them. Top 3 show of my life! The opening comedian was great! Then All Get Out was incredible as well. If your on the fence about going I would say GET YOUR TICKETS AND GO!!

  • We had fun, they had fun, we all had fun :-)

by Jane on 6/29/22Buckhead Theatre - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

This was my second time seeing MCS live and I think it was even better than 11 years ago! They were just clearly having a good time with each other and with us, it made the whole atmosphere just really fun. We could tell Justin is struggling vocally a little bit (cold or something?) but that did not hamper the experience one bit. I also really enjoyed the opening comedian - he cracked me up. Opening band All Get Out was just okay, IMHO.

  • Best show ever

This show was so special for me. I can't wait to see them again!

  • Lovely Night of Nostalgia

by SP on 6/29/22The Fillmore Charlotte - CharlotteRating: 5 out of 5

The folks in the crowd were pretty respectful of each other's space and security/staff were walking around monitoring everything all night, which honestly in the world we live in was pretty reassuring. Motion City put on a fantastic show, even though Justin is having issues with his vocal chords (and should postpone future dates and rest!) The guys kept the crowd pumped and we definitely didn't mind helping him sing the songs. He also acknowledged the recent injustice happening in this country and we all shared a beautiful, united moment. It was a wonderful time. The bar also pours a rather nice double Titos. 👍

  • Fun upbeat performance

Excellent show. Should of pregamed since the drinks were $15 dollars each.

  • Loved it!

They played the entire album and then a set of their best-loved songs. I love the band and their fans always have such great energy! Would recommend to anyone who enjoys even a few MCS songs.

  • A Momentary Distraction from Awful Reality

by Sam on 6/27/22Roxian Theatre - PittsburghRating: 5 out of 5

Motion City Soundtrack was beyond incredible. It felt like such a personal experience despite the crowd. I'm so happy I was able to attend and see a band that made me feel like a teenager again.

Awesome show. Encore was epic. Some things get better with age

  • Great Venue, Great Acoustics

by Dan on 6/27/22Roxian Theatre - PittsburghRating: 5 out of 5

This is a great venue to see a show. General admission tickets can get you into the pit area or on the floor for standing room. There is ample space on the floor. It is best to arrive a little early so you can secure a spot at the railing right behind the pit. The bartender staff was lightning fast and very polite. There is a bar in the basement by the bathrooms, on the main level, and one up on the mezzanine. There might be one in the sky view seating ($15 extra per ticket) but I didn't go up there.

  • Great show!!

by Cam on 6/25/22The Fillmore Silver Spring - Silver SpringRating: 5 out of 5

I saw Motion City Soundtrack at the Fillmore in Silver Spring. The set was on time, and the band sounded great! It was a super fun show, and the venue was very nice as well. I am definitely going to try to see them on the next tour!

  • All my teenage dreams come true

by Becky on 6/25/22The Fillmore Silver Spring - Silver SpringRating: 5 out of 5

One of my favorite shows ever. They sounded great, played the bangers, and everyone in the crowd knew all the words. So cool to see a band that you know meant a lot to everyone when they were younger. And MCS still holds up, unlike some of the other bands from that era. Loved every second.

  • Amazing
