This was my daughter's first time at the ballet, and they loved it. My five year old was even entranced.
Outstanding rendition of Swan Lake. Nelson Pena is truly amazing.
The ballet was wonderful including the opportunity to make photos with the company. The venue was inexpensive and very enjoyable for the price
This was unfair to those who came & those in the ballet who performed. Seating was awful, stage too high. Imagine watching dancers & unable to see their feet. We could not tell if the ballet was on point or flat. Those all around us were complaining about the same thing. Sure looked like a wonderful ballet, too bad it was in such a poor place.
The show was beautiful. Gorgeous costumes and the dancing was wonderful. Floor seats were all awful though...I would not attend again though because of the terrible seating.
My 10 year daughter was mesmerized. We loved every minute of it!
Beautiful, elegant, wonderful lead dancers. Costumes were beautiful. I got pulled into the story through the wonderful dancing of Princess Aurora and the Prince.
My family and I thoroughly enjoyed the Moscow Festival Ballet's rendition of "Sleeping Beauty." The ballet was incredible. The costumes, the skill level, the stage sets. My six-year-old daughter kept asking about Aurora and when she would wake up, and when the princess finally did it was magical! We would recommend this performance to anyone who truly appreciates great talent and would like to support the arts.
The prima ballerinas and the male ballet dancer that did the prince where magnificent. Stage and customs, beautiful.
Loved the Moscow Festival Ballet! From the staging, to the costumes, the quality of the dancing and the perfect interpretation of the music. I also enjoy going to the Parker Playhouse. There are no bad seats, it's easy to get to and they don't charge for parking in their grass lot.
We would definitely recommend this production to all ages. We thought the talent displayed by the ensemble was remarkable and the costumes were beautiful and appropriate to the theme. We were especially impressed with the abilities of both the male and female principle dancers, Especially the male. He seemed to be able to suspend himself briefly in mid air while performing some of his leaps and jumps. We would definitely attend another performance by this troupe.
I had never seen sleeping beauty before. Thank goodness I saw this troupe perform. It was spectacular. Best ballet I have seen in years.
I had high expectations for the quality of dance and was so disappointed I nearly left at intermission. The music was a canned recording, which I wouldn't complain about if it weren't for the awkward gap between tracks that sounds exactly like someone burned a disc from iTunes with a 5 second delay. As for the dancing... Well, the corps was wobbly (how is a wobbly corps your internationa troupe?), and the prince had quite a bit of difficulty with his landings. Multiple times, up to the point where he fell flat on his bum. Fortunately he was able to transition it offstage, but the magic was ruined well before that so it hardly mattered. Now the blue fairy was lovely, and the dancer who played Cinderella even more so. For the staging itself, the stage was very small for the company to shove that many dancers on stage, and rather than slimming the dancers down they tried to restage it to the size. It didn't work very well in my opinion. They also cut out scenes, and mishandled the intermission. Acts 1 and 2 went together in a fell swoop, leading into an intermission and bringing us back for a 17 minute Act 3 plus bows. I cannot for the life of me understand how they actually left an entire series of steps out to confirm Cinderella with her glass slipper, either. I regret spending the money on it like you wouldn't believe, and will be probably avoid the venue as well in the future. I'm not entirely sure why REH chose to set up their venue to treat guests as though they're sardines - hot, steaming sardines because the temperature was far too warm for that many people - but it will definitely be something I recall in the future. If ever I return it will NOT be for a ballet. They simply aren't set up for it.
I'm anything but a ballet expert, but this troupe was really nice to watch. Excellent sets, backdrops, and lighting. It'd be cool to have a live orchestra, but hey, you can't have everything. My one complaint? Latecomers are allowed in during the performance, no matter where they're seated or how disruptive it is to get them there. Many theatre-goers have a bad habit of arriving late (come on, people, you KNOW there'll be traffic... this is LA!) and this venue has ample space in the back for the tardy to still see the performance while waiting for their seats during intermission.
The sets, costuming and lighting were everything I hoped for. I can't judge the dancing but it looked spectacular to me, both individual performances and the choreography of groups. I was surprised that the music was not a live orchestra but maybe that is normal for ballet and why the ticket price was so reasonable.
Very enjoyable. Concerned during the very last part of the program because there was a smoky smell in the concert hall -- someone mentioned that they may have just turned the heater on at that time. However, the sets, costumes and of course, the dancers were wonderful!
I've been to a few events at Valley Performing Arts Center and it really is a nice venue. The sightlines are very good, as are the acoustics. The Moscow Festival Ballet did a very good job with this ballet. The prima ballerina was exceptonal, as most Russian primas are. But the supporting cast was better than I expected. The theatrics were also well staged. I'll certainly go again should they come back to Los Angeles,.
Neither I nor my granddaughter had seen Giselle before. It was beautifully performed and we would go again to see ballets performed by the Moscow Festival Ballets.
