About

Music legends aren't born easily.  It has to be just the right band, with just the right sound, coming along at just the right time.   That band was Montrose, and that sound was heavy, melodic, no-holds-barred rock and roll.

The critics called them "a scorching outfit..." "incredibly impressive..." "part [Jeff] Beck, part Led Zeppelin, and three-fourths nitroglycerin..." "sheer rock and roll ecstasy."

The original Montrose remains the stuff of rock and roll legend, the ultimate stateside power trio with vocals.  The songs are a virtual greatest hits of American hard rock: "Rock the Nation," "Bad Motor Scooter," "Space Station #5," "I Got the Fire," "Jump On It," and the immortal "Rock Candy."  The fans have been begging for more ever since.

But Ronnie Montrose has always followed his heart.  Ever anxious to take his music to the next level, in 1979 he founded the trailblazing band Gamma, a group whose trio of ahead-of-their-time albums were an explosion of guitar and synthesizer pyrotechnics anchored by a bluesy edge.

Between and beyond these band forays, Montrose the player devoted himself to exploring instrumental guitar music on landmark albums like Open Fire and The Speed of Sound.  Fans periodically clamored for another taste of the original Montrose power trio format, but he wouldn't revisit Montrose - that huge, heavy sound; those rich, pealing riffs -- until the time came when he could do it with total conviction.

That time is now.

Montrose has returned full force, playing the tunes that rocked a nation with heart-thumping, foot-stomping, fist-pumping energy.

Jump on the train, it's gonna come rollin' through your town!

    Montrose Kicked Some

by Angus1980 on 1/29/12Uptown Theatre Napa - Napa

A great setlist from early Montrose, a few Gamma songs, and a solo song or two. Hard-edged rock and roll with an acoustic set to throw in. Check out the DVD of the night coming out soon.

Montrose and his band kicked ass

by Fraanko on 1/29/12Uptown Theatre Napa - Napa

Ronnie Montrose and his band gave a great performance. Bass and drums kept pushing Ronnie to play hard. Lead singer was great, considering he had a cold. Loved every minute of it. Hard rock at its finest.

    Cool Show

by jsoz on 1/29/12Uptown Theatre Napa - Napa

Montrose show was very cool. The singer had great pipes. The classic Montrose tunes from the first Montrose album were pulled off great. Ronnie was on and was pretty funny during the breaks between tunes. For me the highlight was fight to the finish from the first Gamma album. Gamma was an awesome band and the first three albums are classics, and of course the first Montrose album is probably the greatest pure rock album ever. Great show, not to be uncool, the drummer was pretty basic and did not have the chops as the rest of the band. Hope to see Ronnie again soon and look forward to seeing the DVD of the show as this show was being taped and Ronnie said this is the first show in his career he has recorded for video. I would give my left you know what to see a video of a Gamma show. Ronnie still rocks!!!!!

    Montrose!

by jkw2301 on 1/29/12Uptown Theatre Napa - Napa

Very good show; however, too much talk, too many long interruptions between songs/sets. Very happy they played Space Age Sacrifice. New lineup quite good! Would see again, but want more continuity in performance and less banter. Love Uptown Theater!

    Montrose BB Kings NYC

by bc3ironmaiden on 10/18/11B.B. King Blues Club and Grill - New York

Great show , The band was on fire , Ronnie has a great sound . I travelled all the way from Pa to go to this show. It was worth every penny. I also love the venue , BB kings is a nice place to see a show , only problem I had was the dinner set up , all night there were waitresses in your face , I am there to see a rock show not eat and chit chat with my buddys. Other than that I go there all the time , staff is very freindly and helpful , and the sound is very good for the shows.

by prplhaz on 10/17/11B.B. King Blues Club and Grill - New York

Yes this was a great show, sure I wish Sammy H. would have been there. And I would have liked to hear Town without Pitty. But B.B. KINGS was Top Notch. They upgraded our seating to right up front we arrived early.

Classic Montrose - the early years

by Oblagon on 10/17/11Showcase Live - Foxboro

I've been a big Ronnie Montrose fan for many years. This concert was primarily an opportunity to see him performing his early hits when Sammy Hagar was still with the band. It is amazing that they were able to find a lead singer that sounds so much like Sammy. The show had great energy and all the early favorites were played including Bad Motor Scooter, Rock The Nation, Space Station #5, Rock Candy and I Got The Fire. It is clear that all band members thoroughly enjoyed performing. Ronnie has a special joy and connection to the audience- occasionally exchanging dialogue with them between songs. As great as this performance was I have only given 4 stars since I saw Ronnie in Santa Rosa, CA about in 1994 promoting his Music From Here album and that performance was beyond belief. My wife and I left stunned at the musical tour de force and experience. So as great as this show was, we know there is another level higher that Ronnie has performed at from a creativity and complexity standpoint. Reference the song Feet First off of 'Roll Over and Play Live' to hear what I am talking about. Intense, dynamic and intricate, A true journey.

    Montrose at B.B. Kings

by Anonymous on 10/16/11B.B. King Blues Club and Grill - New York

It's great to see Ronnie out there . He sounded great and his backing band just rocked the house! But I have to worn about the venue. To sit at a table you have a $10.00 minimun per person per set just a little high. We are in the worst ression since I was born. The food was pricey and it was horrible. It was so dark I could'nt read my tab so I did,nt notice the $6.90 gratuity added to my bill, plus I gave the waitres a$10.00 tip to boot! B.B. you should be ashamed of yourself. My advice If you go there for a show, eat somewere else and stand you will still see great and save a boat load!

    Older is Better

by zenagain on 10/15/11Showcase Live - Foxboro

One word for this show...WOW. Ronnie still rocks out big time. I knew this would be a great show but they even blew away my expectations. Aside from a small amp problem the show was flawless. The older bands still rule as the heavy hitters.

All songs but 2 were from his first 2 albums that Sammy sang on. 1 from 3rd album and 1 from gamma. The funnest , loudest guitar concert I have ever been to. If u loved him in the seventies u will love this concert!

    Damn Good Band

by VicariousDad on 9/21/11Aladdin Theater - Portland

I had wanted to see Ronnie for years and they never seemed to make it through Portland. Well, they were here and they rocked it. Ronnie has all the chops and the singer (dare I say) sounded better than Sammy could have (I am a big Sammy Hagar fan). Great bunch a guys playing with Ronnie and they were really cool with the crowd. Ronnie signed merchandise after the show and was very cordial with his fans. Overall a must see for any rock fan.

    Still brings it

by Xargolf on 9/20/11Aladdin Theater - Portland

show was great, opening act was good and i thought Ronnie had his work cut out. then damn, brought it from the get go and the kid doing the vocals made the old songs his own. Great show, not crowded (short beer lines) and definitly worth the money!

    Ronnie Montrose....What an entertainer!

by MLTC on 9/20/11Aladdin Theater - Portland

The Montrose concert that we attended Sunday night was almost one of the best concerts that we have heard in our three years here. We did not sit the entire time! His lead singer went far beyond expectations, even better that Sammy Lee Hagar. Ronnie himself seems younger now than he did the last time we saw him. We will definitely go to see him again!
