About

Music legends aren't born easily.  It has to be just the right band, with just the right sound, coming along at just the right time.   That band was Montrose, and that sound was heavy, melodic, no-holds-barred rock and roll.

The critics called them "a scorching outfit..." "incredibly impressive..." "part [Jeff] Beck, part Led Zeppelin, and three-fourths nitroglycerin..." "sheer rock and roll ecstasy."

The original Montrose remains the stuff of rock and roll legend, the ultimate stateside power trio with vocals.  The songs are a virtual greatest hits of American hard rock: "Rock the Nation," "Bad Motor Scooter," "Space Station #5," "I Got the Fire," "Jump On It," and the immortal "Rock Candy."  The fans have been begging for more ever since.

But Ronnie Montrose has always followed his heart.  Ever anxious to take his music to the next level, in 1979 he founded the trailblazing band Gamma, a group whose trio of ahead-of-their-time albums were an explosion of guitar and synthesizer pyrotechnics anchored by a bluesy edge.

Between and beyond these band forays, Montrose the player devoted himself to exploring instrumental guitar music on landmark albums like Open Fire and The Speed of Sound.  Fans periodically clamored for another taste of the original Montrose power trio format, but he wouldn't revisit Montrose - that huge, heavy sound; those rich, pealing riffs -- until the time came when he could do it with total conviction.

That time is now.

Montrose has returned full force, playing the tunes that rocked a nation with heart-thumping, foot-stomping, fist-pumping energy.

Jump on the train, it's gonna come rollin' through your town!

Ronnie Montrose was just like I remember, AWESOME

by nilsman on 2/8/12Uptown Theatre Napa - Napa

I saw Montrose at Winterland in like 1974. He sounded good then, and sounded even better after all these years. He played all the same songs. I thought I was back in High School. My 25 year old son was with me, and he enjoyed it also. Not like I did though. Yeeeeaaaahhhh!!!!!

    Montrose rocked!

by kingofbeers on 2/1/12Uptown Theatre Napa - Napa

sitting 7th row at the the Napa Uptown theater for Ronnie Montorse was one of the best shows i can remember. i haven't had that much fun at a show in a long time!! he can still shred on his guitars and make an audience go nuts. they were doing a live recording that night, for a live DVD to be released sometime later. there were great song from the first albums, with an awsome singer that could hit any note. there were some select songs from his Gamma albums, and an set with him playing a 1940 Gibson accoutic guitar he bought back in 1973. he can still shred and kick some butt on that one too. some great music. Ronnie was having fun joking with the audience thru-out the show. well.. after 40 years of rocking... who would expect any less. if you are an old rocker from the '70's and '80's.... do not miss the chance to see a true showman. i will gladly go see him again if he's back in Northern Cal again. MONTROSE

by YOURDADDYDEVILANDLORD on 1/29/12Uptown Theatre Napa - Napa

Great show, great sound, great venue. Montrose rocked and the opening act Michael Lee Firkins was awesome, although it was a short set. The Venue was real intimate, we were in the back and you could hear them talking onstage without a mic as long as the crowd was quiet. I'm glad I got to go, and I will be looking for more shows in the future.

    Montrose was Stellar!

by ECMan on 1/29/12Uptown Theatre Napa - Napa

Ronnie rocked it hard. Had a great vocalist! Venue was incredible. Played every song you wanted to hear, EXCEPT Good Rockin Tonight. I don't get it. Other than that big mistake the show was flawless!

It was a great show, but Ronnie was into himself too much and his arrogance I didn't care for at all.
