MODEST MOUSE IN CONCERT:
Indie rock veterans Modest Mouse enjoy a level of mainstream success that few other indie acts can touch. While the band's intelligent lyrics and expertly crafted songs made them critical darlings in the early '00s, their eclectic live shows earned them legions of fans. With their first new album in five years due out in 2014, Modest Mouse are gearing up for headlining slots at the Boston Calling and Shaky Knees music festivals. Fans lucky enough to catch the band at these rare appearances will be among the first to hear material from the new album — performed alongside all of their greatest hits, of course.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Formed in Washington in 1993, Modest Mouse found an early home on legendary indie labels K Records and Sub Pop. After moving to Up Records for their 1996 debut full-length, the band achieved breakthrough success with 1997's Lonesome Crowded West, which drew praise from critics and earned them a cult following. While 2000's The Moon & Antarctica was another success, it was 2004's Good News for People Who Love Bad News that really broke things wide open — the album went multi-platinum and brought the band their first chart exposure with hit singles "Float On" and "Ocean Breathes Salty." In 2007, the band's fifth studio album We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank landed at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, effectively rendering their indie status null and securing their position as a festival headline-caliber act.
Previously, Modest Mouse has sold out venues to capacity, like Tabernacle and the Rose Bowl.
FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:
"They were honestly amazing. They played with so much energy, played about 20 songs, and absolutely tore the place down. A must see if you get a chance."
"The sounds, the lights, and the crowd were unbelievable. Isaac really blows your mind, his beautiful music and lyrics had the entire crowd swaying with their eyes closed. It was an event I will never forget..."
"Modest Mouse put on an amazing show. Every song sounded even better than the studio version."

The show was short, the sound quality poor and the stage presence and fan interaction limited. I , like many of the concert goes I exited the show with, felt like they didn't get their money's worth. Modest Mouse may be better suited to shows where they can drink and play all night. This "All-Ages" show was weak at best.
Not a bad show. They played a ton of songs I like (and didn't play float on, which was awesome), but the sound could have used a little work. You could barely hear the lyrics on some songs. Overall still a rocking show.
So many things to be unhappy about. 1. The show started at 6 pm. Come on. 2. The show ended at 9:30pm. The show should have started at 9:30. They played for an hour and a half. LAME. 3. They sounded horrible. Couldn't understand the vocals. Guitars turned up way too loud. 4. Weak set list. 5. Weaker encore.
The band is amazing, the venue cool, the crowd a bit disappointing. It felt like Modest Mouse was unencouraged by the crowd present and thus unexcited about the performance. Technically they were great, but the vibe of fun was missing.
Issac is brilliant and has the lasting power of a thousand jackels. I am in awe everytime I see them. Although I craved to hear Steam Engenius, I could ask no more from them from their performance. Thank you Modest Mouse!
I am not the biggest Modest Mouse fan ever, but I still really enjoyed this concert. The Aragon Ballroom is a sweet place, it feels like you're in another world. The music was really good and really loud. The band members were really cool and some of them played tons of instruments. I liked when they whipped out the trumpet, accordion, etc. They played most of the songs that I knew, which was nice--not just songs from the latest album. The support band was fun, too. It was kind of smelly and people were spilling beer on me, but that's not really anyone's fault except the audience.
Modest Mouse is my favorite band and they were GREAT in concert. We saw them at the Aragon Ballroom in Chicago, IL and it was the perfect setting for their music. They are all super talented which was displayed across the stage. The crowd loved them and I hope they come back to Chicago soon!
Modest Mouse has been one of my favorite bands for about 10 years now. I have seen them many time at different venues all over Chicago. Last night I was kind of disappointed because the sound was so awful. It was super basey and you couldn't hear the lyrics or understand anything he was saying when he would talk. I know that has a lot to do with the Aragon because of the space but I wish their sound guys would of worked a bit harder to get a good sound. I did really enjoy the song selection that they played!!! They play tons of old songs that took me way back. But overall I left feeling a bit disappointed.
Again, an amazing band who knows how to really put on a show for their fans. No real radio hits where played which was awesome. But where was the opening band?
The aragon is a flawless venue. Directly next to 24 hour transportation, entryway condusive with processing 40-50 concertgoers per minute, plenty of bev stations, huge restrooms, and a gigantic show space that somehow still feels intimate. we stood on the floor level near the back of the main space, and didnt miss a lazer light or a single lick from the guitars. The Mouse played a perfect mix of songs I knew every word to and ones I had never heard. They kept it loud enough to take me away to that magical place that only live music can take you, whilst not completely drowning out my talk with my friends. They took their sweet time coming out for the encore, but I was immideatly rewarded with one of my favorite songs of all time. All in all an amazing show. My friends arent huge MM fans, but I enjoyed the show more than any i have seen in recent years, save BNL at Migs Field.
Although the floor was very, very hot, the actual was so much fun. Modest Mouse puts on an awesome show.
From what I could tell, Modest Mouse put on a great and energetic show and played an awesome setlist. Unfortunately, the Aragon itself was not up to par. It was my first time there and I was very impressed with the space, the ambience, the ornamentation, etc. However, when MM began playing it was evident that the acoustics in the Aragon are horrible. The space is large and cavernous and that must have had a lot to do with it as it sounded echoey and it was nearly impossible to understand what the lead singer was saying. Also, the box office was telling everyone that there would be an opening band, and there was not. In the future I will definitely think twice before paying to see another show at the Aragon.
A great show altogether. As always, Isaac Brock has great showmanship.
It was hotter than blazes in the Aragon, and those guys rund that venue like drill seargant. Band took the stage at 8 and was off by nine and after encore break was done by 9:30. Brock claimied there was a crufew and it was too hot as he left the stage the final time. It's beatiful in there, but I can't help but feel like their rules and lack of AC made for a crappier show.
The opening act, The Dutchess and the Duke, was very good. They played for a half hour and got us all warmed up for the "real" show coming up. Modest Mouse got on stage after some time but they came with all the talent and power that makes them such an amazing band. I was surprised to hear they played a lot of songs that you wouldn't normally hear in a concert like: "Baby Blue Sedan", "S*** Luck", and "Ohio". These are great songs but I just didn't expect them to play these. Modest Mouse exceeded my expectations with this performance and I'd recommend them to anyone who appreciates good music.
Modest Mouse played a great show. They are really animated and play with lots of enthusiasm. I like the Aragon because you can see pretty well from wherever you are, instead of having to going deaf to be able to see from close up.
I'll admit right off that I am not a HUGE MM follower. More of the casual listener that appreciates their music and likes to see music live whenever I can; different types, venues, etc. Saw they were coming to town so "why not". Nothing is better than live music! A perfect show is listening to great musicians play and talk to the audience giving a little glimpse of personality to the crowd, something you don't get on a CD.Their lead singer addressed us once when they took the stage (unintelligible) and then at the very end, which might have been him saying, "Screw you guys! Don't wait to hear 'Float On' or 'Ocean Breathes Salty' because you're not going to!" as if to prove some point that "...true fans were here for ALL their music and no one can make us play anything we don't want especially one that made us millions of dollars!" They came, they set up, they played, they went home.Sorry but from the outside, it looks like they don't like their jobs anymore. It all looked like a chore to them.
I saw the Mouse last year in Chicago and it was an AMAZING show. This year they stepped up their game and in addition to the new multi-instrumentalist and Johnny Marr they had one of the best light shows I've seen in a long time. The only reason that I didn't give them 5 stars was because of the venue. The Aragon Ballroom has the muddiest sound. But the show was Amazing.
Modest Mouse definitely rocked the Aragon. The sound was incredible. These guys are so talented, they played every instrument known to man. The violin, stand up bass, and banjo all made appearances on stage. The vocals were amazing. This is definitely one of the best bands out there today.
