Minnesota Wild History

The state of Minnesota was without an NHL franchise for seven years after the 1993 departure of the North Stars. That void was filled when the city of Saint Paul landed the Wild as an expansion team in 2000. Hall of Famer Jacques Lemaire took over as the franchise's first head coach.

The Wild advanced to the Western Conference Final in 2003 behind the play of right wing Marián Gáborík, and has gone on to post a winning record in almost every season since. Starting with the 2012-2013 season, Minnesota reached the postseason six consecutive times.

Center Mikko Koivu spent his entire NHL career with the Wild and is the franchise's all-time leader in games played, points and assists. In 2022, the Wild retired Koivu's jersey, the first player in franchise history to have a jersey retired.

We purchased the special priced $ 24.00 tickets and they were very nice seats. Hope to repeat this fun soon. Keep the specials going.

The Wild were a little flat compared to usual, but they stepped it up. A great game overall and good to see some of the newcomers out there scoring.

  • Viewing the rink was difficult

by Brut on 11/30/09Xcel Energy Center - Saint PaulRating: 3 out of 5

These seats were not very good for viewing the hockey game. We could not see the action in the far corner. The usher was always standing at the top of the stairs to further obstuct our view. During the overtime the whole section was standing so we couldn't see the rink at all. I would not recommend these seats at the price that we paid.

  • Press Photography Lights ruined the game

by StillwaterReview on 11/30/09Xcel Energy Center - Saint PaulRating: 2 out of 5

The Excel has to do something with the Press Photography Lights because it is like being under a strobe light and People with light sensitivity issues suffer. The Excel needs to understand that strobes kill camera flashes don't.

  • Avalanche lose a heartbreaker!

by gocolavs on 11/29/09Xcel Energy Center - Saint PaulRating: 4 out of 5

Home ice advantage was what the wild needed to beat the avs, but it was an exiting game with good atmosphere. Go Avs!

  • The Wild were great

by goalymom on 11/28/09Xcel Energy Center - Saint PaulRating: 4 out of 5

We had good seats to a great game. I took my Alaska kids and they loved it also. Food is pricey but there are many restaurants right outside the arena with great pre and post game atmosphere.

  • A good game, despite no Gaborik.

by Dirtshire on 11/15/09Xcel Energy Center - Saint PaulRating: 4 out of 5

Unfortunately I am now 0-2 seeing my favorite team the New York Rangers. I was excited that this time Gaborik couldn't score five goals on us like the last time I saw the teams play. Now he was one of us. Sadly, he was day-to-day and did not play. Despite that, the seats were great and the game was good, even if the final score isn't what I would have liked. My only complaint would be that, although my friend and I were decked out in some fantastic Halloween costumes, werewolf and puck-lodged-in-forehead, we didn't get on the Jumbotron.

  • Wish they would have won.

by WIldFan4ever on 11/14/09Xcel Energy Center - Saint PaulRating: 4 out of 5

Watching the Wild is always a great experince and even better if they pull out a win. We sat on the 3rd row on the blue line where the Wild shot at the goal twice. I would chose a better seat location that is a bit higher so that the entire rink is in full view. Easy to watch the plays develop as well. Had a great time !!!!!!!!!!!

  • Not A Bad Seat in the Xcel

by Grimmy104 on 11/14/09Xcel Energy Center - Saint PaulRating: 5 out of 5

The wild are going to be a good & entertaining team with Todd Richards. I was so use to the trapping defensive play this game was a joy to watch. Can,t wait to get back to the Xcel.

We picked a great game to attend -- might not have been so good if they played poorly. Seats were Club Level, section 22 row 3. They were near the corner but were nonetheless fantastic seats.

  • by katie20 on 11/9/09Xcel Energy Center - Saint PaulRating: 5 out of 5

The seats were fantastic! Love sitting on Club level! Was able to see the game from all angles and had easy to access restrooms, food and drink. I bought these tickets as an anniversary gift for my husband, and he had a fantastic time!

this was my first wild game and we won! but on the other hand the ticket prices and the prices for food, drinks and parking were just outragious, i think that this may be the first and last wild game that i go to.
