Minnesota Wild History
The state of Minnesota was without an NHL franchise for seven years after the 1993 departure of the North Stars. That void was filled when the city of Saint Paul landed the Wild as an expansion team in 2000. Hall of Famer Jacques Lemaire took over as the franchise's first head coach.
The Wild advanced to the Western Conference Final in 2003 behind the play of right wing Marián Gáborík, and has gone on to post a winning record in almost every season since. Starting with the 2012-2013 season, Minnesota reached the postseason six consecutive times.
Center Mikko Koivu spent his entire NHL career with the Wild and is the franchise's all-time leader in games played, points and assists. In 2022, the Wild retired Koivu's jersey, the first player in franchise history to have a jersey retired.

HAWKS WILD
by BBDCB on 1/10/10Xcel Energy Center - Saint PaulRating: 4 out of 5One of the better hockey games I have watched. Thanks to the little mall cops from Minnesota for providing entertainment at the hotel after the game -- you guys were cute.
Wild vs Chicago - what a comeback!
by coup11 on 1/10/10Xcel Energy Center - Saint PaulRating: 4 out of 5We only go to one game a year usually and it's always a good time! The prices could be a little lower on concessions and store items, but that is typical of events like this. All in all, a super game and a super fun time for my husband's birthday.
the game was epic ! ! !
by mccullough on 1/10/10Xcel Energy Center - Saint PaulRating: 5 out of 5The first two periods were very bad for the wild . They come out flat after 2 days off they always play like they were uninspired . Then they started skating playing very good and they tied it up played the over time then the shoot-out and they made the come back complete an won in the end.
What a comeback!!!
by Brunsy on 1/10/10Xcel Energy Center - Saint PaulRating: 5 out of 5Out of all the MN Wild games that I have attended, This game was the most INTENSE ever!! Down 5 - 1 after the 2nd period... no chance... right?!?! They get the first goal of the 3rd, then the 2nd, then a power play goal... only down by one!! With just a few minutes left, they tie the game!!!!! Sudden death OT was a nail bitter, however no one scored. Then... SHOOTOUT!!! We get the first and stop their first. They get a goal on their second attempt and we are denied. So, now we are tied... again!!! After 7 or 8 shootout attempts we finally get another goal and they are DENIED!!!!! Heck yes, that place erupted!!!!! IT WAS AMAZING!!!!! I know that not every game is like this, but there really is something about the venue and the team!!!
Up close with the game

Great Environment
by Anonymous on 1/6/10Xcel Energy Center - Saint PaulRating: 5 out of 5The subzero temperatures outside did not hamper the crowd turnout or support. The staff at the Xcel Energy center were very courteous and helpful. Go Wild!
Great Venue
by Rockstar22 on 1/5/10Xcel Energy Center - Saint PaulRating: 4 out of 5The Wild didn't play great, but the Excel Energy Center is outstanding!!
MN Wild is good entertainment....
by mikep25 on 1/4/10Xcel Energy Center - Saint PaulRating: 4 out of 5Despite the high cost and the first period where we gave up 3 goals and eventually was down 0-4, the hockey in the 2nd & 3rd periods was entertaining and of course, the building is alot of fun to be in.
Great time at a great arena.
by rsun on 1/3/10Xcel Energy Center - Saint PaulRating: 5 out of 5Caught a game in St. Paul while staying in downtown Minneapolis. Easy drive to the Xcel Center, reasonable parking at $15, but the queue to leave the parking structure took 15 minutes to clear. Nice arena facilities, lines were very short for food, drink, and bathrooms. Minnesota-nice fans showed lots of class applauding the opposition during announcements, like Devils coach Jacques Lemaire (former Wild Coach) and Devils top scorer Zach Parise (Minnesota native). Now if only they could do something about the -15F temperatures...
Always a great show at a fantastic venue
by Wild4Hockey on 1/3/10Xcel Energy Center - Saint PaulRating: 5 out of 5I have gone to several Minnesota Wild hockey games and have always had a wonderful time (home team winning or not). The staff at the Xcel Energy Center, and the fans are second to none. Go Wild!!!
Wild Game
by Mcpuck on 1/2/10Xcel Energy Center - Saint PaulRating: 1 out of 5What a poor effort....owners should have refunded our money.
Wild Could Have Been Better
by Wildsox on 1/2/10Xcel Energy Center - Saint PaulRating: 3 out of 5One of the poorer games that the Wild have played in a while. This season prices are up, service is down, food service is more costly and of reduced quality, and the team is not playing so well as to earn all those price increases. Wake up and smell the coffee...
Memorable
by messfamg on 1/1/10Xcel Energy Center - Saint PaulRating: 3 out of 5The Wild lost, but it was still a fun family outting. Wish we could go to more!
- by Anonymous on 12/28/09Xcel Energy Center - Saint PaulRating: 4 out of 5
When I purchased my tickets the seating diagram showed the seats on the end the visiting team was on for two periods. When I got there the Wild was on that end for two periods. Won't let that happen again.
Amazing, WOW, Incredible & Fabulous!!!
by IAHKYMOM on 12/27/09Xcel Energy Center - Saint PaulRating: 5 out of 5This was by far the BEST Christmas gift we have ever dreamed of for my family of 3. We are already planning and saving for another trip to a Wild game next year. When the Wild scored, the stands literally shook. The floors vibrated and our 13 year old son was standing on his seat cheering so loud, and I captured it all on the camera. After my husband lost his job in March 09 due to this lovely economy and companies closing, this is one thing we were not going to let go by the waist-side. The time we spent together as a family was priceless, and the memories will forever be in our hearts. Thank you for a GREAT time!
