Minnesota Wild History

The state of Minnesota was without an NHL franchise for seven years after the 1993 departure of the North Stars. That void was filled when the city of Saint Paul landed the Wild as an expansion team in 2000. Hall of Famer Jacques Lemaire took over as the franchise's first head coach.

The Wild advanced to the Western Conference Final in 2003 behind the play of right wing Marián Gáborík, and has gone on to post a winning record in almost every season since. Starting with the 2012-2013 season, Minnesota reached the postseason six consecutive times.

Center Mikko Koivu spent his entire NHL career with the Wild and is the franchise's all-time leader in games played, points and assists. In 2022, the Wild retired Koivu's jersey, the first player in franchise history to have a jersey retired.

This event was great fun for everyone in my family. My 3 year old loved talking to the players as we were getting autographs. It was nice to see the players all so relaxed during the Skills Competition.

The skills competition was good. Having a picture taken with Stanley Cup with my son = priceless. Bad: the loooong waiting lines to get an autograph from a Wild player. They barely moved! You need to work on that! My son never got an autograph from a Wild player due to this.

  • Wild Skills Competition was a blast!

There was a lot to do and great prizes to win. It was awesome seeing the players have fun competing for bragging rights. They are always so serious during games that you don't get to see them smile all that much. Yesterday they had a lot of laughs and so did the fans. The only thing that I think should be changed is that the autograph sessions should be staggered and a bit longer. They could've raised a lot more money for a good cause.

This was so much fun. And inexpensive, definitely would not miss it.

It was a great opportunity to see your favorite players having fun and get to see their personality. It was well paced and a lot of fun. Looking forward to next year already.

  • MN Wild Skills Competition

My ten-year-old nephew is a huge Wild fan, and he and I go to several games during the year. He was absolutely thrilled to get the chance to get his jersey signed by the players, and to watch the Skills Competition. We arrived at the Xcel Center before 9am, but we were by no means at the front of the line to get in. Still, we had number 30 in the line for Latendresse, Brozniak, and Belanger, and he was #2 in the season ticket only line for Koivu. I think it is great that the Wild players were willing to sign autographs for the fans, especially after playing the night before. I really appreciate them making that effort. My nephew also enjoyed the Skills Competition, but I was a bit disappointed that high school goalies were used.

  • GREAT GAME

by PJOMOE on 1/24/10Xcel Energy Center - Saint PaulRating: 5 out of 5

Great game except for the last 2 minutes, the Blue Jackets scored twice. A shut out would have been a better ending. The Wild boys scored some goals, scraped a little, I kicked a few beers, a hot dog and popcorn too. Good times!!!

It is always a blast seeing the Wild fend off a visiting team. Unfortunately they lost this one, but it was still a great time.

  • What a game!

by BigCory on 1/22/10Xcel Energy Center - Saint PaulRating: 5 out of 5

Great view from our section(113 drink rail), much more comfy than the seats, to cramped for tall people. The crowd is into the game, and great friendly banter between the Wild fans and Wings fans. For the low price of the tickets, and the exciting game, we got our money's worth, for sure! Coming back for the game Wed. to see if my Wings can pull it off again!!!!

  • Wild are the greatest

They should have won this game, coming back from the deficit this team is amazing.

  • 7 round shoot out

by GOWILD11 on 1/22/10Xcel Energy Center - Saint PaulRating: 4 out of 5

The game was awesome! We were behind 3 to 1 going into the 3rd period but the Wild came back to tie the game up with 5 min left. The game came down to a shoot out and I believe we went 7 rounds before the Wild lost, but still a great game. We'll get them next time!!

Not only did the Wild CRUSH the Canucks on the Scoreboard but they also beat them in 3 fights in the 3rd! A win and fights, what more can a hockey fan want!!??

  • Good times

by primus on 1/15/10Xcel Energy Center - Saint PaulRating: 4 out of 5

The game and beer was great. The braut buns were stale and dry, horrible! My daughter loved the game. If you had more $50 or LESS deals we would go to more games. I can't afford anymore than this game. Fun times Ben
