Minnesota Wild History

The state of Minnesota was without an NHL franchise for seven years after the 1993 departure of the North Stars. That void was filled when the city of Saint Paul landed the Wild as an expansion team in 2000. Hall of Famer Jacques Lemaire took over as the franchise's first head coach.

The Wild advanced to the Western Conference Final in 2003 behind the play of right wing Marián Gáborík, and has gone on to post a winning record in almost every season since. Starting with the 2012-2013 season, Minnesota reached the postseason six consecutive times.

Center Mikko Koivu spent his entire NHL career with the Wild and is the franchise's all-time leader in games played, points and assists. In 2022, the Wild retired Koivu's jersey, the first player in franchise history to have a jersey retired.

  • Minnesota Wild Hocky is for Lovers

I gave this event 10 Stars even though there is only 5. My Minnesota Wild Hockey Lover and I enjoyed ourselves so much (we always enjoy ourselves at the games). The roses, the candy, chocolate covered strawberries along with the champagne awesome! Thank you for this event it was an excellent way to spend the Valentines weekend.

  • Wild-Thrasher game 2/13

Lackluster play. Even thought the Wild out-shot Atlanta, the play was ho-hum. STAY OUT OF THE PENALTY BOX. Boogard's penatly was completely unwarranted, starting off what would become a string of 8 penalties for the Wild. This was the only game I chose to buy tickets for this year, as a Valentine's evening out. I'm sticking with TV. Atlanta scored twice into the upper shelf from fantast6ic wrist shots, whereas the WIld most often slapped away and hoped for rebounds. Uneventful.

We had a party of 6 and we had the utmost, bestest time ever!

  • MN Wild games are the best!

by No1WildFan on 2/8/10Xcel Energy Center - Saint PaulRating: 5 out of 5

There's not a bad seat in the house. 10 rows up from the ice is great, but there is slight interference with the top of the glass. 14 rows up is a little better!

by clytam on 2/7/10Xcel Energy Center - Saint PaulRating: 4 out of 5

We loved most of the Game. The seats we had were at the bar stools club seats and we had a tough time seeing the game with the people in front of us. The food was good but very expesive....... but we will go again just not as many times as we would like.

by MaggieMerle on 2/7/10Xcel Energy Center - Saint PaulRating: 5 out of 5

This was our first Wild game and we had a fabulous time!! I was a bit worried when I bought tickets for the very last row, but the view was amazing! We were able to see everything and enjoyed every moment of it. Our seats, even though they were in the last row, were awesome. We had bar stools and our own 'table' space. We were so pleased with the entire night. Best of all, the Wild won!!!!!!!!!!!! Can't get any better than that.

It was great fun. The seats on the Club level were fabulous and the Guest Services group were outstanding. Definitely will do it again. I love the old time hockey teams like the Flyers.

  • Wild triumphed

by MNFlyersFan on 2/7/10Xcel Energy Center - Saint PaulRating: 3 out of 5

Solid game. The Xcel arena was packed. Lots of Flyers fans present. The Wild withstood the Flyers first period barrage and made the Flyers look tired and lethargic in the second and third periods. Owen Nolan pummeled Scotty Hartnell. Only Hartnell and Danny Carcillo showed any energy after the first period. The flyers goaltending was horrible because both goals were soft. He has to stop giving up bad rebounds or this will become and even longer season. The Wild's rookie goalie was outstanding and made some great saves. If he keeps this up the Wild might make the playoffs yet.

  • wild beat the oilers!!!

by Nignog on 2/5/10Xcel Energy Center - Saint PaulRating: 4 out of 5

the game started slow but we made the first goal, after that the crowd got pumped and game picked up they took out our golie in the 3rd tied 2-2 but we came out of a tie to win 4-2..... YOU HAVE GOT TO CHECK OUT THE WILD PLAY SOME HOCKEY.

  • Wild Experience

by scottc00000 on 2/1/10Xcel Energy Center - Saint PaulRating: 5 out of 5

I would highly suggest staying at the Holiday Inn right next door to the Xcel center as you can walk to the game and also the bar. The center is great and there isn't a bad seat in the house. I would highly recommend any one who likes hockey to check out a game there.

It was a great game! I got the tickets for my boyfriend's Christmas gift. He loved the seats! We were short on time and ate in the XCEL, wasn't as expensive as other venues we've been to.

The Wild game versus Detroit was amazing. We always love sitting in Club level seating, close to restaurants, bathrooms, free programs, and awesome seats. Plus there is hardly any waiting time for anything and private entrance. Definitely worth the money and not that expensive to start with.

  • Wild vs Red Wings

by Kels18 on 1/28/10Xcel Energy Center - Saint PaulRating: 5 out of 5

Seats were awesome wasn't a space in the rink you couldn't see from where we were. It was even better that they won :)

  • by Anonymous on 1/28/10Xcel Energy Center - Saint PaulRating: 5 out of 5

We sat just behind the Wild bench. This is a very different experience than what I'm used to at Wild games. It was fun to watch them intereact and see their reactions to everything going on in the game.

  • Hawks fan enjoyed the Red Wings butt whipping!

by blayniac on 1/28/10Xcel Energy Center - Saint PaulRating: 5 out of 5

Although a Blackhawks fan, I thoroughly enjoyed the the dominate play of the Wild last night over the Red Wings! I love the crowd here in the Twin Cities, the venue is awesome (so much better than the United Center in Chitown). I will back again in March to witness another night of great hockey!

  • Wild vs. Blue Jackets

by stik1973 on 1/26/10Xcel Energy Center - Saint PaulRating: 5 out of 5

This was my first time to the excel energy center. I was very impressed with the facility and the game was awesome. I had club level seating which I would highly recommend to anyone that hasn't had a chance to see yet.

  • Awesome!

by Anoka on 1/25/10Xcel Energy Center - Saint PaulRating: 5 out of 5

A fun event for all. The Wild team was very relaxed. A lot of joking around. My family went and we had a blast. They shared the ice with some talented high school kids. I can't emagine what it felt like to be one of them down there. This was a little more interesting than the last one (All-Star Game). My youngest son liked it better than an actual game! We would go again, FOR SURE! Thanks Wild team!

  • Nice to see them so relaxed!

by Goldie929 on 1/25/10Xcel Energy Center - Saint PaulRating: 3 out of 5

I really enjoyed the skills competition, it was great to see all the Wild players relaxed and having a good time. I was a little dissapointed that we didn't have any of our goalies playing but had a good time watching the high school goalies strut their stuff.
