Minnesota Wild History

The state of Minnesota was without an NHL franchise for seven years after the 1993 departure of the North Stars. That void was filled when the city of Saint Paul landed the Wild as an expansion team in 2000. Hall of Famer Jacques Lemaire took over as the franchise's first head coach.

The Wild advanced to the Western Conference Final in 2003 behind the play of right wing Marián Gáborík, and has gone on to post a winning record in almost every season since. Starting with the 2012-2013 season, Minnesota reached the postseason six consecutive times.

Center Mikko Koivu spent his entire NHL career with the Wild and is the franchise's all-time leader in games played, points and assists. In 2022, the Wild retired Koivu's jersey, the first player in franchise history to have a jersey retired.

  • Even though the wild lost the game was phenomenal

  • disappointed at inaccurate description of tickets

by NearIowaWildFan on 3/8/10Xcel Energy Center - Saint PaulRating: 2 out of 5

I was very frustrated to find out that the wild shot on our end during the second period only while when I bought my tickets they were supposedly on the end that "the wild shot on twice" A large value of the ticket is based on what I can see and I felt I really only got half the value of the ticket since I only got to see 1 period instead of 2.

  • Always fun to see the Wild play, but bad game.

by Bungdillyungdung on 3/7/10Xcel Energy Center - Saint PaulRating: 3 out of 5

I always will enjoy going to a Wild game, and just being there, but this game was one of the more boring ones I've seen. Each team scored a goal in the first period, and then went the rest of the game with no goals, 'til Atlanta (whom I was not cheering for), scored a horrible, and quick short handed goal with not much time left in the game. It was like all of a sudden after being bored for awhile, the game was over. Oh well, I've gotten to see some really incredible Wild games, and I guess I should expect for some to be not as good.

  • great game, not the best seats

by hockeyfansmom on 2/16/10Xcel Energy Center - Saint PaulRating: 4 out of 5

Wild game was great, the club seats at the bar rail are over rated. Had to kneel on the bar stool much of the game in order to see over the heads of those seated in front of us.

  • The Wild Rock!

We had an awesome time. I love the club level. Good food and drink with hundreds of choices. The Xcel and the Wild are a class act. Can't wait for my next game. Go Wild!!!!!

  • Great game........too bad they lost.

by AmyWild1 on 2/16/10Xcel Energy Center - Saint PaulRating: 4 out of 5

Great game at the Xcel Center. They kept things tied up until the middle of the 3rd period when the Thrashers scored a 3rd goal and the Wild kept the pressure on them til the end of the game, but just couldn't get their own 3rd goal to tie it up. We had great seats. Section 29 in the club level. It was fun. We hadn't been to a game in a couple of years so this was quite a treat for us.

  • Amazing Game!

What better way to spend Valentines day than at a Wild game!!! We took our 9 month old to her first hockey game and it truly was the GREATEST day! Sharing our love of hockey with our daughter was such a joy! We have now started a new family tradition! Wild hockey on or around Valentines day!

by MRHeidman on 2/15/10Xcel Energy Center - Saint PaulRating: 5 out of 5

Best WILD game we have been to in a long time and to beat Vancouver--even better. When the team scores 6 goals there is so much time to celebrate and the fans just get more and more excited! Very cool way to spend Valentine's Day with my husband too!

  • Wild are great fun!

by jackieblueee on 2/15/10Xcel Energy Center - Saint PaulRating: 5 out of 5

We traveled 4 hours to see the game, and even though i'm not a die hard enthusiast, it was well worth it. The game was exciting, the crowd was pumped, the music was new and energetic, and not dated like the music some teams seem to fall back on. the Xcel was fairly easy to find, concourse was accommodating, and seats were easily found as well. There are a few restaurants within walking distance, but expect a wait on game day! Also, parking was all over, easy to find, and it was simple to get back on the highway. HIghly recommended!

  • Awesome Game!!! Awesome Seats

The game was amazing, and the crowd was on their feet most of the time. The fights were priceless, and when the military personnel were recognized, there are no words to describe the emotion in the stadium. Truly an unforgettable experience!

First time to a Wild game. Had a good time. I would come more if finances would allow.

Having seats on the drink rail in the upper decks was a nice realxing way to watch a hockey game.

  • Great seats!

by HugeTwinsFan on 2/14/10Xcel Energy Center - Saint PaulRating: 5 out of 5

The seats were great, unfortunately the Wild weren't on their game. First time we saw them lose (in person) this season.
