Minnesota Wild History

The state of Minnesota was without an NHL franchise for seven years after the 1993 departure of the North Stars. That void was filled when the city of Saint Paul landed the Wild as an expansion team in 2000. Hall of Famer Jacques Lemaire took over as the franchise's first head coach.

The Wild advanced to the Western Conference Final in 2003 behind the play of right wing Marián Gáborík, and has gone on to post a winning record in almost every season since. Starting with the 2012-2013 season, Minnesota reached the postseason six consecutive times.

Center Mikko Koivu spent his entire NHL career with the Wild and is the franchise's all-time leader in games played, points and assists. In 2022, the Wild retired Koivu's jersey, the first player in franchise history to have a jersey retired.

This team is without hope of improvement - ownership and management seem lost to make on-ice improvements. The overall experience is badly overshadoweed by the lackluster team effort and lousy managament decisions.

Xcel is a wonderful venue. I really wish our team was the Blackhawks. The Wild sucked and were totally going through the motions. It is very obvious that most of those guys are looking forward to the golf season. If it were any other type of business I would be demanding my money back.

The Wild played head to head with the KIngs last night. The seat and veiw line were great. The seats would be a good season ticket choice if they were open. I would like to buy the seats if they for sale.

The seats were so good to see all the action of the game. They keep you pumped up with the music that they played. The hockey action keep you on the edge of your seat. The food was outstanding. There was some great bargains at the hockey lodge.

Really entertaining game, even if our seats were at the very top. Not a bad spot in all of the Xcel Energy Center. Lively crowd, with great action on the ice. Overall great experience!!

This was our first trip to a Wild game! It was our youngest daughters birthday present! All of the Excel staff we encountered were courteous and helpful. We had a great time!

  • worried

by mapletree on 3/15/10Xcel Energy Center - Saint PaulRating: 2 out of 5

The whole ticket thing was worrysome to me. I did not get my tickets in time to mail them to my son, so I had them pick them up at the ticket will call. Everyone was very nice to deal with, but I still did not feel confident that they were going to get to see the event. If there is a way possible to send the tickets sooner without all the extra cost, that would be helpful. I was told my tickets were being printed over a full week after I ordered them.

  • Fun Game!!

by Anonymous on 3/15/10Xcel Energy Center - Saint PaulRating: 4 out of 5

Had a great time at the game. The Wild played well and won. Crowds were fun as well. Wish things were not so expensive so we could go more often.

  • by Anonymous on 3/15/10Xcel Energy Center - Saint PaulRating: 5 out of 5

The game was good. I was in section 107 SRO seat 1-4 which I love standing room but when people had to wait to go to there seats they would block our view! The gaurds standing there should make them move so people who paid for SRO can see. Towards the end of the game people would get up from there seats and stand on top of the stairs (right in our way) and block our view. Something should be done for the poor people in SRO. Nobody would stand in front of the people sitting in the seats so why can the stand in front of the people in SRO.

Good Game for the Wild. You can tell the end of the season is near.

  • Xcel Center Club Level is worth every penny

by Stpaulwildfan on 3/10/10Xcel Energy Center - Saint PaulRating: 5 out of 5

Wild game was great, but the true treat was the Club Level. It was my first time and I will only purchase Club Level from now on. Luxury set up, less crowded, seating areas to take a break during intermissions, friendly staff.

  • by Quimbles on 3/10/10Xcel Energy Center - Saint PaulRating: 5 out of 5

I would definitely recommend any Wild game, they are a lot of fun, the energy in the crowd is amazing.

  • Iginla's Hattrick Makes the Day

by suewow on 3/8/10Xcel Energy Center - Saint PaulRating: 4 out of 5

I took my young nephews to their very first NHL game. They loved it. The event was very kid-friendly, the Xcel Energy Center was convenient to find and the day was perfect. Spencer (10) rooted for the Wild - his favorite team. Hunter cheered for Calgary - his favorite team - and Iginla, his favorite player.
