Minnesota Wild History

The state of Minnesota was without an NHL franchise for seven years after the 1993 departure of the North Stars. That void was filled when the city of Saint Paul landed the Wild as an expansion team in 2000. Hall of Famer Jacques Lemaire took over as the franchise's first head coach.

The Wild advanced to the Western Conference Final in 2003 behind the play of right wing Marián Gáborík, and has gone on to post a winning record in almost every season since. Starting with the 2012-2013 season, Minnesota reached the postseason six consecutive times.

Center Mikko Koivu spent his entire NHL career with the Wild and is the franchise's all-time leader in games played, points and assists. In 2022, the Wild retired Koivu's jersey, the first player in franchise history to have a jersey retired.

  • Just another preseason blunder!!

by Kedojack on 10/3/10Xcel Energy Center - Saint PaulRating: 3 out of 5

The atmosphere at the Xcel Energy Center is always amazing. The play of the Wild was less than "wild". ONly a couple times did they actually show that they had the makings of an NHL professional hockey team. I am fearful of what this season will bring for MInnesota Wild fans. Good luck everyone and good luck to the Wild on ticket sales. If you do order tickets - Ticketmaster is your gateway!!!!! Nice job on getting our tickets to us well in advance. Kedo

  • Great seats for a mediocre game.

The Wild just didn't have much energy. Backstrom made some amazing saves but let in some easy ones. He is lacking consistency right now. Have to hope he plays better in season

We had a good time. The Xcel Energy Center is a great place to watch a game. I don't think there is a bad seat in the house. We also enjoyed the Kemp Fan Pack.

  • KEMPS FAN PACK

by gbncrs on 9/28/10Xcel Energy Center - Saint PaulRating: 4 out of 5

Great gane, seats in the club section were excellent. Bonus of a hot dog, drink and ice cream. it wasa little inconvenient having to go down to section 123 on the main level to get the ice cream. I tried to get it from the concession stand on the club level, but was told I could not get it there. But overall this was a great deal.

  • Wild Game follow up

by eggo94 on 9/27/10Xcel Energy Center - Saint PaulRating: 4 out of 5

The wild played much better and I was happier with what I saw on the ice this year. It was much better than last years team. The kemps deal was nice...however! The quality of the the hot dogs was very poor. I expect much better than what the Excel is allowing to be served. The hot dog was part of the promotion and I do not feel it is asking to much to have better quaility. If this is the best that can be provided I will make sure that I do not spend my money at the excel in the future.

  • Fun Filled Night!!

All that was offered was good for the price. Very enjoyable night. Love to watch the Wild playing an Eastern team. It was a nice package deal. Would do it again.

A very nice package for this event that went over well with the children

  • MN Wild preseason game was good!

by Woods187 on 9/27/10Xcel Energy Center - Saint PaulRating: 4 out of 5

The entire was very enjoyable (could have been made better if Wild had won the shoot-out). Having the tickets for the food items was nice, value for the price was pretty good.

First time in St. Paul--a surpsingly nice town! The Excel center is a great venue for a hockey game.

The seats were excellent - 15th row, in the corners, great view of the ice. Excellent price for the seats with bonus of hot dogs and ice cream. This was my daughter's first hockey game, and she loved it!

we had such a great time at the game. we went last minute because we were going to go out of town. my pregnant wife loved the comfort from the club level seats

  • the game was awesome

by MikeyMoe09 on 4/13/10Xcel Energy Center - Saint PaulRating: 5 out of 5

I had such a great time at the game!! I'm a big Stars fan and really wanted to be at the game in case it was Mike Modano's last game of his career. I was really happy that it wasn't a normal out of the playoffs type game. Usually at the end of the season, if teams aren't going to make it they don't seem to try hard, and that was far from true at this game. Both teams played awesome and it was cool to see Mike Modano come out in his old North Stars jersey.

  • Wild & Mike Modano - Class Acts

by Anonymous on 4/12/10Xcel Energy Center - Saint PaulRating: 5 out of 5

The game was well played. The Wild and the Wild fans are a class act as shown in their salute to Mike Modano. Mike coming out of the tunnel in his old North Stars sweater was amazing.

  • Had a good time, even though the Wild lost

by PPOZeus on 4/11/10Xcel Energy Center - Saint PaulRating: 4 out of 5

I took my 6-year-old daughter to the season finale of the Wild's 2009-2010 season at the Xcel Energy Center. We had club-level seats and the experience could not have been better for her - and myself. She had her face-painted on the main level, got a free balloon animal on the Club level and got some popcorn. Within 10 minutes, she spilled almost all of the popcorn, but there was a staff member there with a vacuum to clean up the mess and a Club usher got her another popcorn, for free! What service!! I have been to NHL events at several different venues across the country, and I think the X has the best experience for the fan. I will definitely be back next season!

Burns should really learn how to play defense......................

  • by Anonymous on 4/2/10Xcel Energy Center - Saint PaulRating: 5 out of 5

We got there as soon as the gates opened so we could tour the Xcel Energy Center. First we grabbed something to eat, and then walked around the arena. We made it to our seats shortly before the game was starting and were THRILLED to have such great seats. It was a great game!

  • Great place for a hockey game!

The Xcel Energy Center is a great place. The staff were wonderful; friendly and extremely helpful. We sat up in the club level and it was such a nice atmosphere.
