Minnesota Wild History

The state of Minnesota was without an NHL franchise for seven years after the 1993 departure of the North Stars. That void was filled when the city of Saint Paul landed the Wild as an expansion team in 2000. Hall of Famer Jacques Lemaire took over as the franchise's first head coach.

The Wild advanced to the Western Conference Final in 2003 behind the play of right wing Marián Gáborík, and has gone on to post a winning record in almost every season since. Starting with the 2012-2013 season, Minnesota reached the postseason six consecutive times.

Center Mikko Koivu spent his entire NHL career with the Wild and is the franchise's all-time leader in games played, points and assists. In 2022, the Wild retired Koivu's jersey, the first player in franchise history to have a jersey retired.

Great inexpensive seats for a MN Wild Game. The upper level ends make it real nice for younger kids to go to the games. They can stand up if antsy and not bother the people infront of you.

Wild looked great the first period, like a pro hockey team. in normal Wild style they crashed as the game went on. Hope they get it together for the season opener.

  • WILD Hockey!!

by hockeyfanfamily on 4/26/11Xcel Energy Center - Saint PaulRating: 4 out of 5

We booked the event just a week before it took place. We still had great seats, but in the Excel Center there are no bad seats! The game was exciting to watch. We had a great time.

  • The WILD didn't dissapoint!

by MRHeidman on 4/12/11Xcel Energy Center - Saint PaulRating: 5 out of 5

I think it's difficult to review a sporting event, but this one truly did not dissapoint! We had 4 tickets in the upper level and the view was great! We really love the stand up seats on the lower level the best, but these were great also!

  • Awesome game

by besthockeymom on 4/12/11Xcel Energy Center - Saint PaulRating: 4 out of 5

It was great to see the wild end with an exciting win!! Here's looking up to next year. I would have loved more fights, but I'll take all the scoring.....

  • Best game of the season!!!

by fanniem on 4/12/11Xcel Energy Center - Saint PaulRating: 5 out of 5

This had to be the best game of the season! The guys had nothing to lose (but the game) and got to play spoiler against Dallas. Th young guys did an awesome job. It was great to see Colton and Jared score. Nice to see such talent from the Aeros; gives us hope that next season some of these guys will be ready to come up and play in the big league. My best to Todd Richards, sorry to see him go.

I always enjoy watching the Wild!! This game was great!! They were the playoff spoilers for Dallas. They showed alot of guts since they were out of the playoffs and it was their last game of the season. Thanks for a great experience. Love the atmosphere at the Xcel as well.

Great game, great seats (sec 107, row 3), great food! Always a fun time at the X

  • by Anonymous on 4/5/11Xcel Energy Center - Saint PaulRating: 3 out of 5

The game was average, the wild don't placy the most interesting hockey in the world, the quality of the game is much better if the team that's playing the wild is better.

  • Wild game vs Oilers

by horse32 on 4/5/11Xcel Energy Center - Saint PaulRating: 5 out of 5

This was a great game. Wild won 4 to 2. It was nice to see them win for a change when we were there.

  • Wild vs Tampa Bay

by MHDSpud on 4/4/11Xcel Energy Center - Saint PaulRating: 5 out of 5

Great game. Very impressed with the kid from Moorhead, MN. Awesome player. I would suggest to the ownership that they double his salary and extend his contract 3 years.

  • Amazing Experience

I was completly satisfied with everything. My seats were great. The game was great.

  • Wild vs Lightning

by Cball on 4/4/11Xcel Energy Center - Saint PaulRating: 4 out of 5

It was a very intense hockey game. The Wild could have played harder. It was like they have given up, because of not making the playoff.

  • Wild games are always a good time.

by tewkewl6 on 4/4/11Xcel Energy Center - Saint PaulRating: 5 out of 5

Every encounter with staff was pleasant and very helpful. Even though the wild lost, the action was good.

  • Put a MN Wild game on your bucket list!

by FinnishMa on 4/4/11Xcel Energy Center - Saint PaulRating: 4 out of 5

It was a dream for my Finnish exchange student to attend a MN Wild game and it definitely lived up to her expectations! We would have liked to see them win, but it was fun nonetheless.

  • It would have been better if...

by killingt1m3 on 4/4/11Xcel Energy Center - Saint PaulRating: 2 out of 5

I was able to purchase beer. For some ridiculous reason, the beer stand wouldn't accept my check card. The guy gave me attitude because I wouldn't go to an ATM and pay an outrageous fee for pulling cash out. I am sorry, but a venue like Xcel should support check cards. Aside from that, the seats were not big enough for me (I am 5'6'' 150 lbs) and I felt crowded. I spent more time hearing other people's conversations than the game and I sat in the 7th row off the ice.

  • Great Game !

by redheadedqt44 on 4/2/11Xcel Energy Center - Saint PaulRating: 5 out of 5

Finally Executed some plays! Showed they can work together as a team to score.

  • It was a Wild event

by Anonymous on 3/29/11Xcel Energy Center - Saint PaulRating: 5 out of 5

It was our first Wild game and first professional hockey game. We started with the fabulous buffet and then were so pleased with our terrific seats in section C25. My hands and nose got cold so I purchased a Wild scarf and mittens! Minnesota is so fortunate to have this hockey team. We live in Bemidji and will continue to support this team and event center.
