About

Millennial Choirs and Orchestras on Tour

Though it may be cliché to say that a group have taken the country by storm — by growing to feature over 2,500 participants a year in ensembles rooted in five states across the country — the Millennial Choirs and Orchestras have done just that. Focused on classical and sacred music, this community group gives transcendent performances of both well-known works and new compositions, situating themselves as one of the country's most important collectives.

Millennial Choirs and Orchestras is a choir for youth and adults, and also includes a symphony orchestra. Founded by brothers Brandon Stewart and Dr. Brett Stewart in 2007, the MCO is a nonprofit group for people of all faiths and ages, operated by the organization Millennial Music. Its first ensemble was the Orange County Millennial Choirs and Orchestra, started in Orange County, California. A second group started in Arizona in 2009 as the East Valley Millennial Choirs and Orchestra. In 2013, groups sprang up in Texas and Utah. That same year, the MCO was invited to perform at the National Conference of the American Choral Directors Association in Dallas. Another iteration of the group began in Boise, Idaho, in 2015. The following year, all five ensembles teamed up to head out on the God & Country tour. In 2017, musicians from the five groups got together to perform at the Salt Lake Tabernacle in Temple Square in Salt Lake City, Utah.

The MCO collective have released at least five albums. The second, Messiah in America, was a recording of an oratorio composed by Dr. Brett Stewart. The libretto, from Stewart and Bruce Richardson, was compiled from the Book of Mormon and the Bible. The music chronicled Christ's visits to the Americas as depicted in the Book of Mormon. The work was written for choir, children's chorus, soprano, alto, tenor and bass soloists, full orchestra and organ. It debuted at No. 1 on Billboard's Traditional Classical Albums chart.

    Stellar Performance

by bebeling on 5/1/23Morrison Center for the Performing Arts - Boise

There had to be 300 people in the choir / orchestra ranging from 4-5 years old up to adults in their 60s and 70s. The performance was just breathtaking and this type of event is NOT my scene.

    Best Show Ever!

by Pam B on 6/20/22Morrison Center for the Performing Arts - Boise

I have seen every MCO concert since they started in Treasure Valley. This one was the best, and that is saying something. I was afraid the loss of Dr. Wells might affect the quality of the musical product here in Treasure Valley, but I couldn't have been more wrong. Dr. Stewart and others have kept the momentum going and this concert was absolutely breathtaking and brilliant, while also being so much fun with the littles and the joy they bring. I was happy to see more youth involved too! I can't wait to see what next semester and beyond will bring!

Orchestra, Conductors and Choirs, Adults, Teenagers, Childre

by Lots of Pop on 4/20/22Morrison Center for the Performing Arts - Boise

The Orchestra played wonderfully enhancing our minds, thoughts and spirits. The Male Conductor as to the Choir and Orchestra was superb as was the Lady Conductor. The male conductor, we (my group) felt that he sought to draw more attention to himself and brother, seeking acclaim so to speak, taking away the special spirit the program we felt would otherwise have provided. There was way too much "advertising" and had we been known there would have been that amount of advertising on the screen, we would not have come. Overall, the Choirs were so loud we could not hear the voices of the children and young adults singing and we could not understand any vocal words. The harmony was in and of itself joyous and entertaining. We were also a bit concerned while watching the children on the screen. We would not attend another such performance however under such presentation.

    Thrilling Testimony through Music

by Kay Dee on 4/18/22Morrison Center for the Performing Arts - Boise

Seeing and hearing the MCO is uplifting and thrilling. Seating is comfortable, line of sight is arranged with good view. Sound is impecable. The check in process is tough, however, for senior citizens that do not use Smart Phones. Each event I have attended is an embarassing process to get tickets and to get IN the door. I wish that tickets were made available prior to arrival at the theater. Only 2 persons sat in the handicapped seating area, however, we were not allowed to place our Rollator walkers in that section. We sat BEHIND the handicapped section. It would have been nice to have access to our belongings in the Walker pockets.

    Stunning and Brilliant

by DebM on 4/18/22Morrison Center for the Performing Arts - Boise

This concert was really amazing! The music was varied, some solemn and thoughtful and some bright and fun. It moved with emotion and energy. The arrangements were so well done and the singing from children 4 years through adults was wonderful when combined with the orchestra. All very well done.

Exhilerating and inspiring event! Movie Soundtrack Style

    by MaritDW on 10/29/21

Going to this event isn't quite a concert. It's more of an experience. The choirs sing separately and together. They range from 4-6 years old to Accomplished adult singers. The way the choir lets families perform together is outstanding. I sang with them for one year a while ago and while my health has prevented me from returning, I will never miss a concert. They bring the spirit of Christmas and it enters into our hearts. I know that sounds lame, but picture the Grinch. It's true. Their concerts are fun, inspiring, surprising, contemporary, fresh, classical, and sometimes even funny. The level of creativity they reach always impresses me. The composers truly are amazing! The diversity of arrangements and compositions are exceptional and the orchestra and violin soloists are wonderful in concert. I love hearing the children and youth singing with the adult choir. They sound wonderful together and it creates so many tones and parts sometimes. Their compositions can be very movie soundtrack-esque. They put drama into simpler songs and energize the audience with their heartfelt renditions of common and not so common songs. Between Hula Dancers spinning fire to Mele Kalikimaka to shofar horns with their rousing and intense version of Joshua Fought the Battle of Jericho, they bring down the house! Five thumbs up!

The timing was perfect. and the Millennial Choir superceded the beautiful Tabernacle Choir on Temple Square. Thank you for providing this wonderful, uplifting choir in the beautiful Morrison Center.
