  • The Definition of Entertainment

I was only expecting a nice, jazz concert, but this was so much more than just that! Mr. Phillips is the epitome of an Entertainer. He gave jazz, his story, rap, R&B and history; all while delivering a top-notch performance with the saxophone, and one hell of a band to back him up. He wasn't just good, he was magnificent, and I'll definitely go out of my way to see him perform again. Thank you Mr. Phillips!

I haven’t had much to do since moving to Raleigh from Atlanta due to the pandemic. Having the opportunity to see Mike here in Raleigh was the most fun I’ve had in my 3 years of living here. The venue was small and intimate, which I absolutely loved!! I could not have planned a better activity for my Saturday evening. I went alone but didn’t feel lonely. Once the concert started I was so entertained, I forgot I was alone. Great job to Mike and his opening act, please come back to Raleigh! Kb

This is my 3rd Mike Phillips Experience but I wanted my girlfriend to experience how great his live performance was.........IT WAS THE BEST THUS FAR. We Loved the way he interacted with the audience played his songs, celebrated his musical heroes, and sometimes when he plays with band it seems there is a mix of music from the past with his such as when he played Michael Jackson's Lady in My Life with a undertone of the song he made 20 years ago called When It comes to Loving Me. Super show....as always.

  • One of the best performances I've enjoyed.

Hands Down this was such an amazing experience. From smooth melodic Jazz to upbeat, even a bit of hip hop. I love this dude. His sound and flow in undeniable. The band was extremely talented.

The show was great. The artists were very personable, coming into the audience to mingle with fans. The venue was great. I will definitely attend more shows there

  • Awesome Evening

Each Artist was equally exciting. My wife and I really enjoyed ourselves. The venue was very comfortable and the staff was very professional. If I could change anything, I don't think I would have announced the George Zimmerman trial results. I believe it caught the crowd by surprise and took their minds away from the great performance Mike Phillips was providing. It also put him in an uncomfortable position.

  • Unforgettable!

  • Ronnie, Howard and Mike were so amazing

by Whitlaw on 7/16/13Mable House Barnes Amphitheatre - MabletonRating: 5 out of 5

Had not been to Mablehouse in a few years but oh lord, Ronnie, Howard and Mike made the evening outstanding, it was a serious party. The crowd was loose and friendly. I think I made it to my front door standing up. I know Chastain may be the big one for Hotlanta but please know they cannot touch you with customer service, your quaint and elegant surroundings, security and the way you make us Atlanta divas feel so very special. I wish you could do a concert every weekend during the summer. Love it!!!!!!!!!!

  • The Bomb

by Jazzlene on 9/2/10Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 5 out of 5

This was an excellent show!!! Mike Phillips was great, caring, for real and entertaining. His music had meaning behind it and he was very concerned and encouraging to young musicians coming up. He wants all who have made it to give a hand up and help the young talent. It was not about managers and waiting for the industry to give the new and upcoming a chance, but for those who have been there and done that, to give them an opportunity without all the bull! Frederic Yonnet is hot, hot, hot, hot!!!!! He makes the harmonica sound like a sax. He makes a harmonica sound better than a sax and I love the sax!! Although I don't know him personally, I can feel him and he is a good person. He loves music and you have got to see him. Trina Broussard was also excellent. You can feel her warmth, she is a real person and she can sing her butt off! I met the man who put the show together and he was enjoying himself like a person in the audience. This show was the bomb! Great music, great musicians, great people.

  • What a show!

We had a great time. Mike P and his friends put on a fantastic show. What energy. Live music is the best. The Birchmere was the perfect venue. The food and everything was very good. We will be coming back real soon.

  • Real Musicians!!

by professormoney on 8/30/10Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 5 out of 5

This show was simply outstanding. Trina was great! I am going to buy her album because of her performance. Yonnet!!! What can I say, I never knew an harmonica could sound like that!!! And, Mike Philly, I know he can play the sax, but his ability to keep the crowd entertained was great! The three are true musicians in the truest form. Great show!!!

  • Phillips is to be commended!

  • Great show...Frederic Yonnet was AMAZING

by BIRCHMEREFUN on 8/30/10Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 4 out of 5

Attended Birchmere show Sunday night with Mike Phillips featuring Frederic Yonnet. Show started off very slow with an unannounced opening by Trina Broussard, who has a powerful voice but spent half the time talking or forgetting lyrics. Frustrated me as I came for Mike and Frederic. Early on I even considered leaving and asking for my money back. Mike Phillips finally got on stage but seemed to have some real problems getting into a groove. He is normally a very fun entertainer and engaging with the audience, but he seemed to stumble frequently and jumped into gimmicks such as using this voice box instrument and starting congo lines. He implored us three times to support his efforts to support young artists, but I still don't know what he wanted me to do. He is an amazing saxophonist, but we hardly got to see it. The show really kicked off when Mike introduced Frederick Yonnet! He is AMAZING! He turned the show around within 30 seconds. His talent and energy and absolute stage presence are incredible and people were on the feet immediately. Unfortunately, we only got to experience it for a very short time before Mike took over the reins and started showcasing other talented, but let interesting artists, such as flutist, trombone player, and Stanley Cooper. We did get another glimpse of Frederick at the end, but way to brief. I recommend Mike Phillips with a caveat that the show may be uneven. But if FREDERIC YONNET is playing in your are, GO! He is a true talent and an amazing entertainer!

Mike Phillips, Trina Broussard and Frederick Yonnet provided jazz enthusiast with a night of pure musical talent. Mike Phillips has a powerful energy that he unfolds to the audience. Trina Broussard has the voice of an angel. Through Trina I heard so many voices past and present! Frederick Yonnet dazzled us with his haromonica! What an inspiration you all are to young aspiring jazz artist. Never let go of our young people, they need you in their lives. Thanks for sharing your gifts and talents with us.

Musicianship like this is RARE! BRING THEM BACK! (and leave me a little room to dance in!) Frederic Yonnet putting a HARMONICA to DC GO-GO music...something that can't be believed if u don't see it yourself!
