Mike Birbiglia is a comedian, writer, director, and actor who has performed his award-winning solo shows worldwide--from the Sydney Opera House to the West End of London to Broadway. His five solo shows Sleepwalk With Me, My Girlfriend's Boyfriend, Thank God For Jokes, The New One, and The Old Man & The Pool enjoyed successful runs on and off Broadway and became hit Netflix comedy specials. The shows merge storytelling and comedy in a way that The New York Times has called "Birbiglian." Birbiglia also wrote, directed, and starred in the films Sleepwalk with Me and Don't Think Twice. As an actor, Birbiglia has appeared in the films Trainwreck, The Fault in Our Stars, Popstar, A Man Called Otto as well as TV roles in Orange Is the New Black and Billions. He hosts the podcast Mike Birbiglia's Working It Out.
Great show! It was a perfect night out. Wonderful opening acts, laugh out loud funny. Just observations on life, but with a humorous lens.
I've seen Mike Birbiglia a few times and he always puts on a great show. This was a fun night out!
I am a huge fan of Mike Birbiglia but I think one of the reasons I do is that I enjoy his style of performing. His specials tend to be almost like a one act play where most jokes center around a particular theme. Christmas Parmesan didn’t follow that format. There was no underlying message- no central idea that all the jokes centered around. It was just a hodgepodge of jokes that felt thrown together. I felt kind of let down.
Mike Birbiglia and his openers provided a great night of comedy. The seats, however, were very painful. Would be a 5-star review if our seats hadn't caused us both pain. Our seats were front row, center balcony. My seat was slightly broken and had an awkward slope, which would have been less of a problem if the padding weren't terrible. My date's seat was not broken but still had terrible padding. This was our 5th visit to the Wiblur, so we know the seating in the other areas isn't bad.
It was immediately clear he was tipsy (trying to be kind). I brought my family and I was embarrassed - one member is in recovery. In retrospect we should not have gone.
Seeing Mike Birbiglia isn't so much going to see a comic tell jokes. It's a friend telling you the story of their lives with all the funny twists and profound observations. You are drawn in while time stops.
I had seen Mike last year in Old Man in the Pool. I like that format better. I love his story telling. Christmas Parmesan felt more like a straight up stand up comedy show. I did not have tears streaming down my face like at Pool. The ending of Pool was remarkable.
Mike was absolutely fantastic. The seats at the Wilbur were among the priciest and we needed to strain to see. Our view was of the people sitting directly in front of us.
We paid top $ for seats. We were sitting next to (almost under) the stage, at a table, with our backs to center stage. The act was behind us!! Someone needs to rethink this setup.
Mike Birbiglia is the world's best story teller/comedian. His honesty and vulnerability brings me to tears everytime I see him. When he's in town - I'm there!!!
Mike has many wonderful shows, but this was my absolute favorite. Hands down. I laughed the entire time — and at once point, I was laughing so hard that I had tears streaming down my face. Do not miss this show!!
This is the third time I’ve seen Birbiglia live and I always have a great time. I don’t usually laugh out loud but his comedy always makes me laugh. A very fun evening!
Mike Birbiglia is even better in person that he is on his TV specials! His storytelling is both funny and heartwarming. This is a show I would recommend to anyone. The Wilbur in Boston, however, is very tired. It's easy to forget about the atmosphere once the show gets started, but don't look around too closely while the lights are still on.
Very smart and observant guy. This night in particular Mike lacked a little energy. He was great, but seem a little tired
Sooooo it was a little disappointing but, since Birbigs is so funny, it was always gonna be good. The two openers were REALLY funny (Gary Simons and Alex Edelman) and an excellent addition. Birbiglia’s set was rather short in comparison and given that he’s the headliner. He repeated quite a few jokes (some REALLY old jokes, including the full and long version of his sleepwalk/jumping out of the window story). With the amount of repeats, even though they’re really funny, the actual new stuff was maybe 40 mins. Don’t get me wrong, this was STILL funny and a good time.
I love Mike Birbiglia. He is an amazing storyteller. That's why i go to him. However, I get the feeling like he's doing more one liners rather than telling his complex stories. I wasn't wowed by him as I usually am. Slightly disappointed and wanted his in depth and thoughtful and complex layering of comedy as his past 3+ Netflix specials have demonstrated. Will always love him but hope he's not playing to the masses with quick one-liner type of humor.
This show was awesome. Started very promptly. Opening act was very funny. Mike came on a performed for well over an hour and a half. His show was hysterical, very put together and smart. I haven't laughed that hard and that consistently in quite awhile and we see a lot of comedians.
Mike Birbiglia is a master storyteller and a wonderful comedian. His insightful humor and gentle delivery warm my heart. I never stopped laughing during the show and I smiled for days afterward as I remembered a joke or a witty phrase from his performance. I’m eagerly anticipating more from Mike and will go see him every time he is in my area.
The Taft was a great venue. Easy in, easy out, and friendly employees. The show, as is always the case with Mr. Birbiglia, was the perfect blend of humor and heart. Personal and connective, self-deprecating without pitying, every sentence loaded with laughs. Since first catching him on Premium Blend, Mr. Birbiglia has been in my top 5 list of entertainers.
Never a dull moment with Mike B. He continues to rule the comedy world.
