Michelle Obama on Tour

Former First Lady of the United States Michelle Obama is no stranger to the public eye. The Chicago native maintained a highly visible presence throughout husband Barack Obama's two terms as President of the United States, and was comfortable in any situation: serving as an international ambassador, visiting schools, or moving and grooving at a Beyoncé concert. Like other first ladies, Obama is also using her post-White House time to make a difference in the world. A galvanizing speaker known for her down-to-earth delivery and real-talk approach, she embarked on a book tour in support of her 2018 memoir, ‘Becoming,' with appearances full of storytelling and conversation.

About Michelle Obama

Born in Chicago, Michelle Obama grew up in a loving household that prioritized family and education. Accordingly, she holds an undergraduate degree from Princeton and a law degree from Harvard. Although Obama did practice law—in fact, she met future husband and President of the United States Barack Obama while working at a firm—she also held multiple private-sector jobs. Most notably, she was the founding executive director of the Chicago branch of Public Allies, a nonprofit focused on cultivating leadership in younger generations.

As First Lady of the United States for eight years starting in 2009, Obama continued to seek out socially conscious causes that benefit the greater good. She championed women's rights and education for girls; became a vocal supporter of military families and spouses; and promoted healthy eating via multiple initiatives, including the "Let's Move!" campaign to decrease childhood obesity. Since leaving the White House, she's continued to be an outspoken advocate for gender equality, education, and political diversity. More recently, she released her second book, the 2018 memoir ‘Becoming,' which follows 2012's New York Times best seller ‘American Grown: The Story of the White House Kitchen Garden and Gardens Across America.'

    Nice evening out

    by N on 11/6/19Prudential Center - Newark

Very inspirational honest conversation. Very relatable. A bit short for the amount of money charged. Needed something extra like a photo opportunity.

    Michelle Obama Moderated Conversation

by CMS on 11/6/19Prudential Center - Newark

great to see her in person...thoroughly enjoyed the book; moderated conversation was shorter than I expected and didn't have the same intimacy as the book...

    Wrong venue

    by L. n. on 11/6/19Prudential Center - Newark

It was fine. Michelle Obama is alway great, but for $180 I expected a better experience. It was impersonal, speaker was so far away I watched the Jumbotron. Could have found that on YouTube in the comfort of my living room. Didn’t feel special.

    Hilarious & Insightful

    by D. on 11/6/19Prudential Center - Newark

I didn’t realize how funny the First Lady is. I laughed a lot. I felt her warmth from my seats. Her stories were so relatable and I even enjoyed the small bit of White House stories she told. A wonderful night out for my mom and me. I hadn’t bought her book before, but I went out and did after!

    Not Worth the Cost

by Disappointed on 11/6/19Prudential Center - Newark

The event was too short. I expected it to be at least 90 minutes. And because of how the chairs on the set were angled all I saw was the back of her head, even though I paid for good seats! The moderator wasn’t that great. Very disappointed.

The location was convenient and good so I would recommend attending concerts, games, events there. And Michelle Obama was phenomenal. Her discussion was very relatable and intimate.

    Good, but short

by Vicki on 11/6/19Prudential Center - Newark

I thought the event was good and I was very excited to see her speak, however it felt short. She only talked a little over an hour.

    It was just ok

by Anorchid on 10/16/19FirstOntario Centre - Hamilton

I will start by saying that our view was obstructed (that was not mentioned when purchasing tickets). It was really short and not inspirational at all. I have heard so many wonderful things about listening to her speak and I have to say this was not. It was just ok, stories of family, but... really it was nothing at all inspiring or brave. Was not a fan, makes me sad.

    Short and sweet

by KVM on 10/15/19FirstOntario Centre - Hamilton

Although seeing Michelle Obama live was great as she is a genuine and very personable individual, the show was very short, just over an hour. She answered a set of predetermined questions that covered a bit of background but mostly some experiences as a first lady. More time with her would have been great.

    An uplifting expwrience

    by S. H. on 10/15/19FirstOntario Centre - Hamilton

Michelle Obama is one of those unique people who can see the bigger picture, and who doesn’t get caught in all the minutiae of the political scene. She is warm, compassionate, funny, and genuine. She is brilliant, beautiful, and down to earth. She conveys all her views with honesty, respect, and clarity. Her husband is the same. I felt honoured to be in her presence and to share in her stories and words of wisdom. It was an incredible experience!

It. was a great experience, seeing Mrs. Obama

    by V. M. on 10/15/19Canadian Tire Centre - Kanata

My husband and I flew in from New York to Canada to meet Mrs. Obama. We really enjoyed her speech. She make you feel so special. It was an honor to be photograph with Mrs. Obama. We love how she spoke about her personal life. gave women and men good advice about life. It is awesome to see that she don't hold grudges with all the negative things she had to go thru in the white house.

    Good, not great

by Ellie on 10/15/19FirstOntario Centre - Hamilton

I was beyond excited to see Michelle Obama, former first lady, and hear about her time at the top of the US political scene. What I did not expect was to hear her talk about her kids for an hour. She is still one of the most well spoken, eloquent, gracious people I've ever had the pleasure of hearing, but the content was disappointing. In addition we sat mid 100's (pretty far from the stage), and paid $200 per seat for a 60 minute event. Not great value.

For the price of the ticket, I would have expect a longer, more interactive interview.

    One very warm classy lady

by Beth on 10/14/19FirstOntario Centre - Hamilton

Michelle Obama speaks so well and is so genuine. My only disappointment was how short the presentation was. I figured it would be 45 minutes, intermission, another 45 minutes. Also 7:00 was a difficult time to get there (from Toronto) on a holiday weekend. Took me 2 hours coming from my office. The last 11km to get there took me over one hour.
