About

MICHAEL MCDONALD IN CONCERT:

Ever since his 1982 solo debut, Michael McDonald has consistently dominated soft rock airwaves with his rich baritone voice and soulful performances. McDonald's powerhouse live shows are a veritable trip back in time, combining beloved hits like "I Keep Forgettin' (Every Time You're Near)" with classic material from his days with the Doobie Brothers. A distinguished performer with undeniable soul, McDonald never fails to bring the house down, and his 2014 tour dates will be no different.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Born in St. Louis, McDonald played in several bands in high school before heading out to Los Angeles to pursue music professionally. By the mid-'70s, he had landed himself a gig playing with jazz rock legends Steely Dan, appearing on several of their most influential albums including 1977's Aja and 1980's Gaucho. Around the same time, he was recruited by the Doobie Brothers for a national tour, going on to become a full-time member of the band as lead vocalist on classic recordings like "Takin' it to the Streets" and "What a Fool Believes." Following the Doobie's farewell tour, McDonald released his 1982 solo debut If That's What It Takes, a Top 10 hit on both the Billboard 200 and R&B/Hip-Hop Albums charts. With eight studio albums and an extensive list of acclaimed collaborations under his belt, McDonald has plenty of hits to choose from as he puts together the setlists for his 2014 tour.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"He was absolutely wonderful as was his band and singers accompanying him. His voice was impeccable and just as awesome as it is on all of his recorded music."

"The performance was exceptional. They sounded terrific and the setlist was a blend of solid hits and several covers that meshed perfectly. The audience was totally engaged and McDonald really hit it out of the park."

"The guy still has it! Nice mix of Doobie days, and his own twist on some Motown standards. The musicians and female vocalist complimenting him were fantastic in their own right."

    McDonald & Skaggs

by kathyoc on 7/12/09Greek Theatre - Los Angeles

Good concert. Michael McDonald's "Doobie" songs did not sound the same, tho'. Skaggs sounded great. We would have still liked having a CD of the evening.

    McDonald/Skaggs

by Gidgette on 7/12/09Greek Theatre - Los Angeles

Nice surprise that the show began on time, and that Michael McDonald opened before Boz Skaggs. I enjoyed both entertainers, and their superb backup singers. A little more electric guitar for both than I prefer.

    Great concert!

by BabyBoomer on 7/12/09Greek Theatre - Los Angeles

Both Michael McDonald and Boz Scaggs were terrific! The sound was perfect. The crowd was engaged. We had a terrible time getting to the Greek, poor traffic control on the part of the Greek and the Glendale police. We missed the first part of Michael McDonald and were sorry about that. Both MMcD and BZ were gracious and played and sung their hearts out. We loved it. The Greek was clean and well taken care of. Thank you.

Boz and Michael McDonald - Smooth and Soulful

by groolster on 7/12/09Greek Theatre - Los Angeles

What a great night out at the Greek. Michael McDonald now looks like Phil Donahue, but sounds as good as ever. Never realized how much Ray Charles and Marvin Gaye have influenced the blue-eyed soulfulness of his music. His band was tight as a drum. Boz Scaggs thankfully played hits from his catalog ( I was worried he might do a night of standards, as Rod Stewart did a few years back). His voice is still fantastic, and "Lowdown" brought me back to high school, driving my father's Monte Carlo with the big giant speakers in the doors. I remember hearing that song for the first time and saying to myself, "Hm... maybe I don't hate disco!" Hilight of the entire evening -- Michael McDonald joining Boz and his band on the organ for an incredible rendition of "Loan Me A Dime" from Boz's first album - which I had on eight track. (The cartridge was pink!) A great show! GO!

by Milarsky on 7/12/09Greek Theatre - Los Angeles

I really like Michel Mcdonald's and Boz Scaggs voices Their backupbands were great also i especially liked the black girl i believe her name was Teona really harmonized well together along with the female drummer also from MM's band. Overall great crowd a bit older but very friendly atmosphere as always at the Greek Theatre.

    Great Show

by John67 on 7/12/09Greek Theatre - Los Angeles

We were surprised Michael McDonad was opening from Boz Scaggs. And judging from people around us everyone else felt the same. But either way it was an awesome concert. Unfortunately out of the thousands there we had to sit next to the four most obnoxious people there and the Greek staff didn't handle it well. They basically allowed four people to ruin the experience for about the 50 or so people around them. They finally dealt with it but it was too late and it did continue until the last song they both sang together.

The show was fantastic!!! I was disappointed that Michael McDonald was presented as the headliner and then when we got there, he opened the show. We missed the first few songs. Overall, the venue is amazing and Michael and Boz blew us away!

    Michael and Boz

by StarCruzer on 7/12/09Greek Theatre - Los Angeles

Outstanding show that balanced the gifts of each of these artists in 2 separate one-hour sets and a blues finale featuring both of them. A great evening!

    Boz Skaggs was awesome!!

by WaldenPondFan on 7/6/09Ruth Eckerd Hall - Clearwater

Ruth Eckerd Hall was a great venue for the concert - a little on the warm, stuffy side for comfortability, but overall the evening was most memorable. Boz sang a lot of my favorites and interjected some of his history along the way. His musicians were top notch - just an overall awesome show!

Two greats in an awesome setting

by OConnor on 7/6/09Ruth Eckerd Hall - Clearwater

Both Boz Skaggs and Michael McDonald were fabulously entertaining. The musicians who accompained them were as equally talented and entertaining as the headliners. Nice to see that they both encourage other artists to shine in their own right. Venue was excellent. Easy access both outside (valet parking a welcome choice) and getting to seats was easily accomplished both physically as well as staff being very helpful in locating seats.

    GREAT SHOW

by JulieT on 7/6/09Ruth Eckerd Hall - Clearwater

I enjoyed Boz Skaggs as much or more than Michael McDonald, and I didn't expect to! They were both very good and the acoustics in the hall were great!
