Mesquite Championship Rodeo Live
The cowboy adjusts the hat atop his head, pulls up his boots and boom! The bucking chute flies open and he's holding on for dear life as a bull furiously jumps and shakes in an attempt to toss the rider. That eight-second quest to hang on is what separates the champions at the Mesquite Championship Rodeo in Mesquite, Texas. Since 1985, the 5,500-capacity Mesquite Arena has played host to the event every Sunday from June to August. There's much more than bull riding going down, with each night featuring bronc riding, multiple roping events, steer wrestling, and the like. There's even rodeo classics for kids, like Mutton Bustin', where children ages four to seven do their best to hang on to a woolly sheep, and the calf scrambling chase for kids under 12. The upgraded Mesquite Arena offers luxury suite options and premium seating right in front of the action, along with Dollar Dog nights and the annual Father's Day Rodeo. There's a Fan Zone on the dirt floor where families can head down before the Rodeo for pictures, plus cowboy and cowgirl meet and greets, bull riding how-tos, and pony rides. On a warm Texas summer night, the Mesquite Championship Rodeo is a quintessentially Southwestern activity for all.
Mesquite Championship Rodeo Background
Right off I-635, Mesquite Arena has been the home of the Mesquite Championship Rodeo since 1985, and it has maintained the strong tradition that started in Mesquite in the mid-1940s. Hundreds of thousands of fans attend the Rodeo every summer, and the renovated facility even features a Convention Center, an Exhibition Hall, and a Hampton Inn & Suites. Texas Rangers and Dallas Stars owner Tom Hicks bought the Rodeo in 1999, before selling it to Camelot Sports & Entertainment in 2009. Camelot has continuously improved the facility to include digital video boards over the bucking chutes and the private 8-Second Club restaurant.

Mesquite Rodeo is always good classic fun for everybody!
We hadn't been to a rodeo in years, and took our granddaughters, age 9 and 10. It was the perfect place for them to watch and learn about the rodeo. The rodeo clown was funny, and the cowboys were tough as nails. They enjoyed getting to go into the arena for some kind of kids contest/run. Admission price was very reasonable, and being in AC in August made for a good event.
Grandson and I had a great time. We enjoyed the clown and the tricks he did on his horse.
Never been before, so this was a FIRST! Everyone enjoyed it and thought it was unique entertainment and amazing skill! Those poor guys on the bulls and broncs getting tossed around. My back was hurting sympathy with them :-)
My Son-in-law said it the best, 'there's something about the wholesome, family feel of the Rodeo that never disappoints!' We had a wonderful time with the kids, and the grandkids! Two items though that could use attention: having seen the Mesquite Rodeo now for the last 30 years, this time it felt TIRED. Cowboys just going through the motions without a real zeal for the proceedings; and - WE COULDN'T BELIEVE TICKETMASTER CHARGED 24% SERVICE CHARGE FOR THE TICKETS!! Come on guys, "Pigs get fat, and HOGS get slaughtered!"
We loved the rodeo. It is good clean fun entertainment.
We had a great time at the Rodeo. We had really good seats, they were comfortable and located three rolls up by the chutes. It was fun for all of us, my 2 1/2 year old granddaughter enjoyed it and was able to yell and scream and clap and cheer all she wanted.
I loved it and we will be back next year. Love the celebration of Western culture.
The Mesquite Rodeo Pro is also a very family friendly show, We appreciate both the national anthem and the prayer. Very good cowboy/cowgirl food for adults and kids alike (mac and cheese).
Our family had a really good time. And the kids would like to go again.
I used to work for the US Equestrian Team so I was a bit skeptical to go. Great riders, well cared for animals and lots of fun for the audience! It was my first rodeo but it won't be my last!
We make it a point to go to the Mesquite Rodeo, each summer. And each summer its gets better and better. The one night format (Saturday night) was so much better with a bigger crowd and more cowboys riding in each event. The bbq dinner inside the arena was great and the beer was cold. There was even a really good live band after the rodeo so we did some scootin' at the 8 Second Club...lots of fun. We will definitely be back again. Thanks, David Hardt
What a great time celebrating my husbands birthday. Bought the VIP tickets so we were right on the first row by the bucking shoots! With the awesome all you eat Eddie Deans bar-b-que and all the wine and beer you could drink...well worth every penny spent on the ticket. Will definitely do this again!!!
Grand kids loved it. Great place to take kids. They even got to participate. Good value.
If you are in town and able to get her here for a great evening of fun, this is a must.
Was a great event. Very family friendly. Was great to see an event in person that I had only seen in TV. Would definitely attend another event.
As a Texan there is nothing that makes me feel more at home then the Rodeo & on this particular night they had a beautiful, powerful tribute to the fallen Dallas & DART officers. Being the wife of an Officer this made me feel the live & beauty of my State! God Bless Texas
They sold us tickets behind the shoots so the kids could not see except on the screen. If I wanted to see on a screen I would have watched it at home. Customer service was terrible. Oh we are going to take care of you is what they kept saying. But they did NOTHING. They blamed our tickets on ticketmaster instead if taking responsibility for themselves. Very unhappy with all of this. WILL NOT BE BACK AND WILL NOT RECOMMEND TO ANYONE.
