About

MercyMe has been releasing hits in the Christian rock genre since 2001, when "I Can Only Imagine" caught the attention of the public and became the most requested song on a mainstream station in Texas. Despite the band's success on conventional radio stations, the majority of ticket buyers expect MercyMe's concert tours to be religion oriented, and they are not disappointed. Fans who attended the Rock & Worship Roadshow in 2013 described the tour as uplifting and filled with spiritual hits that included "Word of God Speak,” “All of Creation” and "You Don’t Care At All." The latter song is from the 2012 album The Hurt & the Healer, which reached No. 1 on the Christian Albums Billboard chart.

Millard formed MercyMe with Jim Bryson and Mike Scheuchzer in Oklahoma, and after releasing independently, MercyMe signed with INO Records in 2001. Their first album earned the 2x Platinum certification from the RIAA after "I Can Only Imagine" won two Dove Awards. On 2002's Spoken For, which peaked at No. 2 on the Christian Albums chart, the title track was the most successful. 2004's Undone brought with it hits like "Here with Me," "Homesick" and "In the Blink of an Eye." 2006's Coming Up to Breathe was nominated for a Grammy, due to hit singles like "Bring the Rain," "So Long Self" and "Hold Fast." All That Is Within Me was released in 2007, with "God With Us" reaching No. 1 on the Christian Songs Billboard chart. 2010 saw the release of The Generous Mr. Lovewell, while 2012's The Hurt & The Healer featured "You Are I Am" and the title track as the most popular songs. MercyMe has plans to continue its tour for The Hurt & the Healer album in 2014.

  • Mercy Me Was Amazing!!!

by flyingguitar7 on 8/13/10Iowa State Fair - Des MoinesRating: 5 out of 5

Newsboys and Mercy me played a very good show. It was a comfortable grand stand. My only complaint was one speaker kept making a crackling/flopping sound so I think it may have been slightly blown out or being pushed too hard.

This was an awesome concert and I have enjoyed Mercy Me concerts before. I love their music its so heartfelt!! Thanks for your wonderful message that you give in every song and the wonderful words that you spoke to us.

  • too much bass

by Iowammfan on 8/13/10Iowa State Fair - Des MoinesRating: 3 out of 5

great music but the bass was too high. Seemed like Mercy Me phoned this one in. I was also concerned about the questionable devotional message. I don't think its advisable to tell your kids that they are perfect just the way they are. Only Christ is perfect and if we are perfect, why did God need to send his son. This is the reason modern American churches are producing lukewarm believers - no reason to change, "we are perfect". No reason for Christ, " we are perfect."

  • Mercy Me and Newsboys were awesome

Newsboys were great and Mercy Me was awesome. A very good combination of music.

  • Newsboys & Mercy Me good

by teacherkay on 8/13/10Iowa State Fair - Des MoinesRating: 4 out of 5

They were a good conbination concert. It was a bit weird hearing Michael Tate singing Newsboys stuff. Both groups the instruments were a bit to loud. It is hard to hear the vocals when the other is to loud.

  • Brought me to tears

by Anonymous on 8/13/10Iowa State Fair - Des MoinesRating: 5 out of 5

MercyMe is amazingly beautiful music and they are so great to hear live. I think they sound even better than on the CDs. The message that they give is so touching too. They warm your heart and let you know that God is always on your side and loves you all the time. Thank you for letting me be a part of something so beautiful.

  • They Rocked the Grandstand Out.

by PiuM2 on 8/13/10Iowa State Fair - Des MoinesRating: 5 out of 5

It was so rocking your feet moved by themselves. You could feel every note played. Loved it but would of preffered a Praise and Worship concert.

  • Newsboys-Mercy Me Rocked the house

by Ph0t0bug on 8/13/10Iowa State Fair - Des MoinesRating: 5 out of 5

The Newsboys/Mercy Me concert at the State Fair was AWESOME. Both groups "hit it out of the park!". Michael Tait is an incredicble talent and brought some of the great rock hits from DC Talk into the show. This was a MUST SEE event. Kudo's to the Iowa State Fair for bringing a great show like this to the Grandstand. Keep up the great job. It will be difficult to top this show for next year's event... but you can do it!

  • Newsboys exceeded expectations, MercyMe didn't

I went to this concert mostly looking forward to Mercy Me. They were good but not great. I really enjoyed watching Newsboys though.

  • Great Concert on a Hot Night

by Newg89 on 8/13/10Iowa State Fair - Des MoinesRating: 5 out of 5

Blistering Hot - Humidity that could be cut with a knife - This was the start of the evening. Even through the conditions were a bit unbearable, the event was Christ honoring and memorable. Both MercyMe and the Newsboys put on not only an incredible show, they brought an atmosphere of worship that overcame the conditions of nature. I left feeling that I was brought nearer to Christ and the cross. Michael Tait is a great addition to an already legendary Christian band. Newsboys are fresh and relevant as ever. MercyMe's set was outstanding. Their use of lights and screens onstage was simple yet incredible. I would not only invite your Christian friends to come but those that you want to introduce to the Author of Salvation as well. Christ be glorified and bless these men with a heart for worshiping Christ through their music!

  • Mercy Me and Newsboys concert experience

by Mike50659 on 8/13/10Iowa State Fair - Des MoinesRating: 4 out of 5

Concert of course was extremely hot. Had to wait in line to get tickets to exchange for drinks, only two people exchanging money? They ran out of tickets shortly after I got mine. They also ran out of bottle water??? Tickets. I ordered 4 tickets very early, because we had someone that struggled getting up stairs I requested handicapped tickets. I was told they could only give us two which was fine but I was told our seats would be directly behind her. As it was we were but way up in the upper deck. When I got my tickets I saw the first two up front and never thought to check the other two. Needless to say we worked things out so that the person that needed help had someone to give her a hand. Concert. This is the second time we have been at a Mercy Me live concert and have to say were disappointed. The sound was to loud and as we could hardly make out the words which are so beautiful. The bass was overbearing esp. with the Newsboys. Btw we don't mind loud music. Keep inviting performers like this it is awesome to be amoung thousands of worshipers

  • Concert was sweet

Very empowering performance! Newsboys were great and Mercy Me had a good mix of new and older songs. Very enlightening and I would recommend this performance to anyone looking to experience the movement of the Holy Spirit through the Body of God's people.

Amazing! It was hot out, but it didn't matter. It was a great event.

  • by Anonymous on 8/13/10Iowa State Fair - Des MoinesRating: 3 out of 5

The Newsboys were great! MercyMe not as great as I had hoped, but still really good. The sound wasn't very good, but it was a State Fair and way too hot of a day. The venue needs too put the poles on their map.

  • MercyMe:Newsboys ROCK!

by alliowamom on 8/13/10Iowa State Fair - Des MoinesRating: 5 out of 5

I am an absolute fan of MercyMe and Newsboys. To have such wonderful bands come to the Iowa State Fair is a blessing. The ticket pricing I felt was reasonable. To be able to worship and enjoy God's word at an outdoor facility like that is wonderful...thank you for bringing them to the Iowa State Fair!
