I enjoyed the show! Huey Calhoun was awesome! His love for acting was apparent in all the scenes he was in...he made me believe his love for music and his love for his women (in the show). I would see it again!!!

    Memphis was great!

by feetswife on 3/29/15Coronado Performing Arts Center - Rockford

The music was very good, the voices, band and dancers were all amazing!! I really enjoyed the storyline, but the lead character of Huey was a little hard to warm up to, as he was such a buffoon.

    WOW!

by ShoeJunky on 3/7/15Bismarck Event Center - Bismarck

This show kept you entranced. The dancing, the music. The lead female actor. What a gorgeous voice. Loved the seriousness along with the comedy. Made the point of the hardships that were faced and yet added enough light comedy to push it along. Huey was wonderful, funny, sad. Just an awesome show all the way around. Don't miss this show.

    Memphis

by 67fb on 2/18/15Fox Performing Arts Center - Riverside

The sound was too loud and distorted. Loud is ok if the sound is clear, not distorted. The Sound person should check with the audience to find out if they can understand the words. There is more to a musical than motion and LOUD NOISE! Thanks

Memphis was a great play! set in the 60's, about a white dj who promotes and falls in love with a beautiful black singer, great music and dancing, fast paced and deep. It was one of the best plays I have seen and I have seen many!!!

OUTSTANDING MUSICAL; GREAT BOOK; INCREDIBLE CAST

by uclawg on 11/19/14Fred Kavli Theatre-Thousand Oaks Civic Arts - Thousand Oaks

Cabrillo Music Theatre does it again with style. A poignant, heartfelt, rocking look at life and music in the South in the 1950s. The program said only 3 of the actos were actors equity--don't believe it. The entire cast was strong, light on their feet, and musically talented. Great book about racial divides and prejudices in Memphis in the 1950s. If you only see one show the remainder of this year let this one be the one. Standing ovations are the norm in Southern California; this one was more than well deserved. Professional set, incredible choreography, well sung songs--you can't ask for anything more.

    Memphis the Musical

by 70sGal22 on 11/18/14Fred Kavli Theatre-Thousand Oaks Civic Arts - Thousand Oaks

Memphis was fantastical! Loved the characters that were created for the musical. The main character Huey is based on Dewey Phillips, the first white DJ to ever play "black" music on a major radio station. (All the others were created.) The acting, singing, and dancing were excellent. The actor portraying Huey was very good, and the actress playing Felicia, even though very young and just out of college was like a veteran. Delray's actor and Huey's mom were so professional and they all could be on a national stage. The props were very very good and it felt really exciting to see and hear this excellent musical.

    Memphis is Marvelous!

by MissDannimac on 11/17/14Fred Kavli Theatre-Thousand Oaks Civic Arts - Thousand Oaks

From beginning to end, high energy, catchy music, terrific singing and dancing, a very cohesive cast working together to produce a spectacular musical! The story draws you in, the songs have you tapping, the dancing is mesmerizing, and you remain on the edge of your seat throughout the show. Everyone is enthusiastic and energetic.
