Hilarious! Laughter is the best Medicine!
by Mani F on 2/17/22Palace of Fine Arts - San FranciscoRating: 5 out of 5I can't tell you the last time I laughed so hard! I have never needed such a pick-me-up as I did that night! We we saw Maz Jobrani at SF Palace of Fine Arts, Feb. 11, 2022, 8:00 pm show. The warm-up acts were Tehran Von Ghasri and Dhaya Lakshminarayanan, who were super funny and entertaining, considering the crowd was late in getting seated, due to the long line of attendees waiting for their vaccination status to be confirmed at the door. It felt comforting to know that Palace of Fine Arts was checking for vaccines + boosters. Tehran was irreverent as always, but spot on! Dhaya was relatable, and balanced Tehran's male-oriented jokes with her female-oriented ones. Together with Maz, they make quite an international and diverse trio! Once warmed up, the audience was ready for Maz! As always, he picked on various members of the audience to connect, build stories and relate them to his jokes. Some of his classmates from elementary school in Marin were in the audience! Too funny! Maz had new material, such as Covid and Dr. Fauci jokes, which were hilarious. He also had new jokes on similar topics he always talks about it, such as his wife and kids. Maz has a way of making the audience comfortable, before hitting them with a zinger! I was laughing so hard, I started coughing, which I had to stop, or people would have thought I had Covid! He connected with the audience really well, from airport stories to technology to careers to Persian traditions. There was an ease and familiarity about Maz, and yet he transported us somehow outside our cares, while making strangers feel like we came together in a common cause. I've been so stressed recently that this show was absolutely what the doctor had prescribed! Maz is somewhat like an essential worker, because laughter is the best medicine!
