About

Consistent, candid, honest and forthright about everything from life to music, Matthew Good is one of few Canadian musicians that requires no introduction.

In 2007, that candidness revealed itself as Hospital Music, an album dedicated to the ordeal Matthew Good was thrust into when dealing with bipolarity. Using the creativity of music to work through the revelation and realism of that diagnosis, Good and his followers formed an unbreakable bond based on what proved to be one of his most impeccable albums.

In 2009, Matthew Good finds him in an enviable place: alive, feeling fine and more inspired than ever before with the release of his 11th album entitled, Vancouver on October 6th.  Matthew Good's latest release, Vancouver is a dedication to and examination of his experiences living in the world-renowned city for the better part of his life; the land responsible for forming many of his personal reflections and opinions on the world.

On the track "The Vancouver National Anthem," Matthew Good has many observations about the contradictions of what is going on within the city, a track boasting/solidifying the union of Good and artist Pete Yorn. As with the bulk of Good's catalogue, Vancouver was recorded at The Warehouse Studio. Joined by the majority of his live band-journeymen and session players who have truly connected with Good's own vision and direction-Vancouver is easily Good's most coherent, enduring, and indelibly appreciable work to date.

Matthew Good has sold over 800,000 albums world-wide, awarded three Juno Awards and has received 17 Juno nominations.  Matthew Good was awarded the Mental Heath Voices 2008 Award on behalf of the Canadian Mental Health Association, an award for proliferating awareness of mental health issues throughout Canada.

This show was a blast!! I was fortunate to get into the M+ soundcheck and meet the band beforehand. All those guys are really cool and they have awesome chemistry on stage. The venue was a bit small, but it was still an amazing performance.

    Definitely worth the wait.

by UnknownMonkeyman on 4/6/10Middle East - Cambridge

The only downside was the fact that he didn't come on 'til 2 and a half hours after the doors opened. However, he made up for it by putting on a good performance and going through the songs quickly so we could get the maximum amount in a short period of time (I still got 6 songs out of him before I had to leave, opposed to the opening band's 4...and his songs are significantly longer than theirs). He didn't waste his time talking to the audience and all songs sounded were album quality. He also played a lot of his classic songs from when he was with Matthew Good Band, which I wasn't expecting. The reason why I wouldn't recommend this for a friend though, is because it's more an event for die hard fans of Matthew Good. I don't think any average person, or any of my friends for that matter, would find this event entertaining. There was probably only about 50 people on the floor, if that, and it wasn't really a hopping venue. It was perfect for me, but I'm not into big concerts anyway...so I would only recommend this event to Matt Good fans and boring old fogies like myself...of which I have not encountered many.

    Matt Good's Amazing Show

by VeganCat on 4/5/10Bowery Ballroom - NEW YORK

What an amazing show! Matt Good's performance was one of the best live performances I have ever seen. He gave us 200% throughout the entire show. The Bowery Ballroom provided a cozy venue with great acoustics.

Matt Good will always have it.

by AptDog on 4/5/10Bowery Ballroom - NEW YORK

I saw Matt on the beautiful midnight tour not knowing who he was and was blown away. Saw him again in 2009 solo acoustic in Philly and was really inspired, especially being a singer/songwriter myself. Then this show, great venue, great band and a great performance. Thanks Matt. Hopefully see you again.

    Matthew Good in NYC

by Sarahbellum7 on 4/5/10Bowery Ballroom - NEW YORK

This was the first time I was able to see Matthew Good live. Have been a fan for years. But, let me tell you, there is nothing like seeing him live! I knew every song he played (which he had a great set list btw), but getting to hear him (he sounded superb) and see the passion he has for his music just put his songs on a whole new level. Now when I'm playing his music, I APPRECIATE it even more! His band also held their own and were simply fantastic (Kudos to his drummer!) If I had the money, I would definitely see him everytime I could. I live in Charleston, SC and he doesn't get down south much.... My daughter and I went to NYC specifically to see him and he truly did not disappoint!!

    ....wow....

by TwoWheeler on 4/5/10Water Street Music Hall - Rochester

To be honest, I wasn't sure what to expect, since so much of Matt's music is dark and moody. (I like it, just wasn't sure how it would translate to a live show). They set that straight with the opener "Silent Army In The Trees" (the song I'd most hoped they'd do!) and didn't let up until about six songs later, when Matt stopped to comment on the bizarre decor and ambiance. ("Early American Hellhole") The rest of the show flat out rocked - which I wasn't really expecting. This was no Rogaine tour - they were NOT just going through the motions and the crowd - though small- was into it. I'm an old fart - been going to concerts for 35 years and would easily rank this among one of the best I've seen.

Matthew Good - out of this world

by Anonymous on 4/5/10Water Street Music Hall - Rochester

Somehow this canadian icon has managed to stay under the radar in America, but attend one show and you can quickly figure out how he sells out stadiums up north. With a piercing , haunting and echoing voice, Matthew Good infuses emotion and commentary on the human condition into each carefully constructed masterpiece.

Funny, energetic. Great show. I'm not a big fan of their music (went with a friend) but I still enjoyed myself a lot.

by RockerBoy on 4/4/10Middle East - Cambridge

Matthew Good and his band was intense and they sounded perfect. Just could have played a few more from his 1997 "Underdogs" album, since that was his most popular one.

    North American For Life

by Splender on 4/4/10Middle East - Cambridge

Well worth the low ticket price Matty Good mixed in his classics with his strong new stuff. The sound was perfect as is always the case with him - I've never understood why he's never really caught on in the U.S. as he is huge in his native Canada. Check him if you get the chance, he's got 8 cds out along with a hits compilation and a live CD.

Automatic Loveletter opened and I have to say they were better...his playing was typical and nothing really stood out.

Matthew good played a great show. The set list was a nice mix of songs. My only complaint is that the show was too short.

Anthem for the picked on kids in high school are timeless. Matthew Good's stuff is energetic and touching. Stuff from the early years is awesome and the new stuff is edgy and fun.

    Matthew Good was spectacular!

by Rae472 on 3/29/10House of Blues Cleveland - Cleveland

I was so excited when Matt opened the show with my favorite song from the new album, Vancouver. The set list started with "The boy who could explode" and then the band went right into "Load me up", the very first song I'd ever heard by the Matthew Good Band. I was stoked by the opening of the show and my elation continued through the rest of the set. Matt joked about being on the small stage and falling into his drummer, while a Dave Matthews cover band was playing the main stage. I agreed with Matt that this seemed an injustice that a cover band would take precedent over a real band. None the less, I love the intamacy of a small show and being able to be in the second row right in front of one of my favorite artists of all time. The night was wonderful as Matt and his band closed with tracks from the first album, Beautiful Midnight.

    Matthew Good Solid As Usual

by lennystrong100 on 3/27/10House of Blues Cleveland - Cleveland

The guy is a great singer and the band sounded tight. Hopefully Matt returns to Ohio and keeps this band together. They definitely have good chemistry. A lot of energy in the room and a nice crowd despite the fact he appears to be almost unknown in the Cleveland area.
