"I want people to hear my story, and connect it to their story," says MaRynn Taylor, country music's fast-rising powerhouse vocalist who is on a trajectory to connect with millions of fans. Named one of CMT's "Next Women of Country" (2023), MaRynn has nearly 35 million cumulative streams and 14 Telly Awards under her belt.
MaRynn released her self-reflective EP, Get To Know Me on May 31. "In this EP, I talk about where I'm from, what I've gone through, where I'm going, and everything in between...It's candid, it's vulnerable, and if I am being honest, it's the most excited I've ever been to put out music," revealed MaRynn on the release. MaRynn's Top 50 and climbing single, the flirty "Small Town Spinnin'" (3/1) from the EP, co-written by Taylor with Erin Kinsey and Kerr and produced by Kerr, finds the vocal powerhouse poking light-heartedly at how quickly news catches fire in a small town.
This Fall, the artist to watch (Country Now, Music Mayhem) is slated to hit the road as direct support on Dylan Schnieder's Bad Decisions Tour. In 2023, MaRynn debuted at the Grand Ole Opry on June 23 after Opry member Jeannie Seely surprised her with the news during 650 AM WSM's Coffee, Country, and Cody. On the Opry stage, MaRynn performed her sassy "Make You Mine" that "delivers big notes" (Billboard) and marks her first Top 50 hit on Country radio. Written by Black River Publishing's Taylor, GRAMMY-winner Josh Kerr, and Dan Wilson, and produced by Kerr. "Make You Mine" entered the Top 50 and Top 60 on both the Mediabase Country and Billboard Country Airplay charts respectively on October 2, 2023. With more than two million streams for the single, the "female powerhouse" (Country Now) is only heating up.
MaRynn rounded out an incredible year with her return to Buffalo's Highmark Stadium on Oct. 15 for her second anthem performance on the NFL field in 2023 and her debut halftime performance during the Buffalo Bills vs. New York Giants Sunday Night Football matchup on NBC. The rising star went on to perform the national anthems at the Buffalo Sabres game on Oct. 17, solidifying three professional sports appearances in less than 48 hours for MaRynn.
Country music was the soundtrack to her youth, where she was drawn in by its honesty, emotion, and storytelling. MaRynn spent many hours on the front porch of her childhood home where music helped her escape from life in Rockford, Michigan and dream of a bigger world. She fell in love with Taylor Swift's vulnerable songwriting, and Carrie Underwood's soaring vocals.
"As an artist and human being, I want my music to inspire and be relatable," says MaRynn. "Growing up with idols like Carrie and Taylor, I could relate to them. It was as if I could feel their heartaches in the music and as if the stories in their songs reflected mine. Today, that's what I want to give to my fans."
She poured over country songs and artists, picking apart the lyrics and melodies. Some of her favorites give insight to her destiny: "Temporary Home" by Carrie Underwood, "The House That Built Me" by Miranda Lambert, "Fire And Rain" by James Taylor and "Life's What You Make It" by Hannah Montana.
In middle school, a spring break trip to Nashville led her further down the path of music. "It felt more like home than my hometown," she recalls. "In some ways, Nashville reminds me of the island of misfit toys. People felt like they didn't belong where they were, but they feel at home here because we all understand each other."
She eventually moved to Nashville where a chance encounter at the 2019 CMA Music Festival gave her the break she needed--an impromptu performance after Black River Entertainment's 60 Second Spotlight event had already closed for the day. After sparking up enough of a conversation with the Black River team to be invited to play a song, her talent caught their attention immediately. MaRynn says she spent the next few months in "music summer camp" learning about songwriting and she recorded music for the first time in a professional recording studio at Black River's Sound Stage Studios.
MaRynn is excited to get out on the road and share these songs that are so close to her heart with fans and hear their own personal stories too. "I genuinely care about people and their feelings. I'm a good listener and I want to be there for people. There's not enough of that in the world right now."
Today, MaRynn Taylor is no longer the little girl dreaming on the front porch; she is the voice ready to inspire a generation.
