Grammy-nominated Marvin Sapp credits the entirety of his pop culture success to his faith, a power that served as the sole inspiration behind his 2012 participation in the Kings Men tour — not to mention his best-selling 2007 release, Thirsty. After achieving success with this breakthrough album, Sapp proceeded to further spread his faith by pursuing a speaking tour, as well as a live recording of several fan favorites at churches and cathedrals across the country. Sapp’s performances has fans on their feet, swaying side to side to his slow, yet inspirational lyrics. In 2009, the gospel singer followed up his huge breakthrough album by recording "Here I Am" live at Wyoming, Michigan's Resurrection Life Church. More recently, he's followed a similar concert album route with the release of "I Win," a touching collection recorded at Evangel Cathedral near Washington, D.C.
Although largely unrecognized until his 2007 spiral to fame, Marvin Sapp's musical career hails back to 1991, when he joined gospel group Commissioned as one of the lead vocalists and participated in three major albums as well as an extensive American tour. In 1996, Sapp broke away from Commissioned in hopes of launching a solo career, thus beginning the eleven-year journey that ultimately led to 2007's Thirsty. Since that first major record success, Sapp's achievements have included BET's Best Gospel Artist in 2008 and 2010, plus multiple Grammy nominations in 2013. His late 2013 plans included taking the same faith-based approach to music responsible for his many awards, album accolades and ticket sales, infusing the traditional gospel approach with his distinctive contemporary style.
This was a wonderful and inspiring concert! The music was outstanding. I felt encouraged by the end of this performance. A must see.
This was an awesome experience. Both artist are so talented. Love praise and worship and this show gave me that.
Marvin Sapp was good, but it was hard to follow behind Tamela Mann. She had the audience captivated with her voice and her testimony. I would see this show again if it came back to town
Regina Belle was good, Marvin Sapp was not--music too loud, delay in starting performance, dubbing--no live backup. Lady in blue jump suit was not entertaining--and TOO big.
The comic was very good and seemed to get the audience going. He had everyone laughing. Second on stage was Regina Belle. Her performance was stellar and was only inhibited by to poor sound system. Her back up singers were awesome and it seemed as if she understood the sound limitations, because after the 1st song she seemed to put more effort into projecting her voice out to the audience. The final act was Marvin and he came out ready to put on a show even with the only half full auditorium. He started the show trying to get everyone evolved, however the audience did no seem to fully get in the mood. This seemed to lead Marvin to just work the numbers and get off the stage. I will say the lack of audience enthusiasm was again generated by the sound quality.
Disappointed that Mr. Sapp's chorus was on a track...
Just like in the movie Spinal Tap, some genius thought the volume on Marvin Sapp's musicians needed to be on 11. Too loud to enjoy which was very sad. Even his gospel back up singers (who were not present/on a recording) were so loud it grated my ear drums. I had to leave early, the volume was that uncomfortable.
Jimmy Highsmith, Regina Belle and Marvin Sapp did an awesome job, Zack Johnson was funny. Mr. Highsmith i just love his talent, jazz a great live performer. There arent enough words to describe how spectacular Ms. Regina was simply a class act of talent. Mr. Sapp was great however, i which he would have been able to bring his back up singers and that he would have performed longer than an hour. in summary i was very pleased with the Summer Fest part I.
Marvin Sapp gave a stellar performance. The live band enhanced his strong vocals. The outdoor venue was a nice backdrop on a perfect summer Chicago night, and I left the concert feeling uplifted and inspired.
Marvin Sapp was great. He sang many of his popular songs, talked to us about the loss of his wife, and ended with a heartfelt rendition of never would have made it. Also, the theatre is fabulous and the food was really good. I loved the entire experience!
Wonderful concert! Each artist sang absolutely amazing. They sang their hearts out! Awesome passion for the Lord filled the room. I felt uplifted and thankful for all the Lord does in our lives. I couldn't have asked for a better line up of artists. The only negative thing I have to say is the sound could have been a bit better in the venue. The volume got so loud at times that the artists sound muffled in certain parts of their songs. If the sound crew could bring the sound down a little for future concerts it will be perfect. Other than that, great great great great performance!!! Please return to Columbus, OH again Marvin Sapp and bring your friends! Thank you!
This concert was spirit filled. It provided a sense of great feeling of being close to God. The talent that was shared for God was truly amazing!!!
My wife and I really enjoyed the concert, it was truly a blessing! However, the concert was a bit too long, and the headliner (Marvin Sapp) didn't come on stage until 10-10:30! As well, he should have spent less time using his cell phone to tell us about a text message to send to his non-profit organization! Although, his non-profit is a very good legacy that he's continuing, started by his late wife. He could have spent no more than 5 mins. explaining the non-profit, and then put his phone away!!!!
Took my mom and daughter and it was amazing. We were filled when we left for sure!!!
Marvin Sapp sung his heart out. It was awesome. This man can sing with the anointing. I felt for him in the loss of his beloved wife. He has suffered a life changing loss. But he goes on with his children and the LORD. Marvin Sapp was powerful.
Absolutely amazing!!! Vicki Winans was hilarious. William McDowell brings an anointing. And Marvin Sapp.....enough said. Definitely recommended.
I thought it would be MUCH better. The talent was exceptional but there were long breaks- unashamed selling from the stage, inaccurate Statements about the plight of black children. Completely unprofessional!! I was completely disappointed.
Show was excellent. Alexis from Sunday best was good. Vicky sang Two songs and brought the house down with her singing and comedy. Marvin was good. Was disappointed in the version he chose to sing Never Would Have Made It.
Really enjoyed the worship in song...wish Marvin Sapp would have had the stage much longer.
Best concert I have seen in years!!! Everyone did a superb job!!!
