    Amazing Experience

by JanJan on 10/4/21Atlanta Symphony Hall - Atlanta

It was a Black Panther love fest! We had a surprise bonus appearance by Lupita Nyong'o qho is in Atlanta filming Black Panther 2. Being able to watch the movie and see the orchestra play the soundtrack and not have the recorded soundtrack was awe inspiring. The vast majority of the audience had seen the movie and cheered on the characters when good won over evil. Watching the cello and violin bows work in perfect simultaneous movements was just the best! The African brother that played the electronic bongo was so full of energy and pride in his craft! Every section of the orchestra was on point. Watching the orchestra pick up speed as the action increased sped up my heart and adrenaline! It was a 4D experience that i will not soon forget! I would see it again if the performance traveled to.another city where my children live.

    Excellent Performers, Irritating Audience

by Daner on 10/4/21Atlanta Symphony Hall - Atlanta

Good lawd, the symphony is one of the world’s best. The conductor is the man. The low brass is phenomenal. The African percussionist was bold and unforgettable. And the movie is, of course, one of the best among the Marvel installments. So, why can’t adult audience members show up on time (people coming in up through the first hour), and stay in their seats during the performance (so many people with unavoidable “emergencies” before and after intermission)? These folks should be managed by venue staff. Symphony performances used to be safeguarded from at least those showing up late. Getting up and down for these folks was a big and unfortunate part of the experience. That aside - wow. What a powerful event. Well done, ASO.

    Black Panther In Living Color

    by Jenn C on 10/3/21

If you have ever watched a movie on mute or with poor sound, you realize quickly that something feels off. I would rather have a movie without dialogue than sound to evoke the sadness, joy or excitement that well-crafted scores provide as context to scenes. I may be biased in that I am an Atlanta-born and raised attendee; watched Black Panter 8 times (now 9) and am a huge MCU fan. Even if you do not fall into those parameters, one can appreciate that this marvel of a movie (excuse the pun) was created right here in Atlanta. Moreover, the gravity of this being on of Chadwick Boseman's last films before his untimely death made this experience more precious. Add in the talent and magic that is the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra playing the music used in this masterpeice leaves me at a lack of words profound enough to describe the experience. I took my twin boys who play music and to enjoy the arts in a way that not even my husband and I have ever experienced. After this show, if an orchestra symphony isn't there at the next movie I go see, I don't want it! We were in for a double treat, as the surreal beauty that is Lupito Nyong'o (Nakita and BP's love interest) was the special guest that opened the show. Shortly after her introduction, we were informed that Massamba Diop, the Senegalese drum soloist heard throughout the film, was there to perform with the orchestra. I can't begin to describe the authenticity of hearing those beautiful African drums being played alongside violins, harps, ect. I was musical heaven. This was truly a wonderful way to experience a movie in technicolor that was layered in music. It has been my joy as a pleasure to give this experience to my children and watch them watch this feature. I will attend future events similar to this without question!
