About Marty Stuart

Marty Stuart in Concert

There's not an ounce of artificiality in Marty Stuart's stage act, but you'd better believe he puts on a show. He's a natural-born entertainer who started learning about live performance by backing country music legends. As a bandleader he exudes an effortless grace that makes the music live and breathe. Stuart's got guitar chops for miles and once he digs in he doesn't mess around, but he also knows how to get a crowd psyched up in a completely organic way to amp up the fun. When he travels with his band The Fabulous Superlatives, a true country music wrecking crew of top-tier players, Stuart loves to turn on a dime from hard-charging honky-tonk roof raisers to gentle acoustic ballads, keeping the crowd in the palm of his hand every step of the way.

Marty Stuart Background

With a rich, varied career that stretches back to the '70s, there's not much Marty Stuart hasn't done. He's been a blazing-hot bluegrass guitar picker, a country-rocking rebel, a roots-conscious neo-traditionalist, a Nashville hitmaker and Johnny Cash's right-hand man. First and foremost Stuart has emerged as a keeper of the country music flame, championing authenticity above all and forsaking trendiness in favor of a deep-down country spirit. He got his start playing with bluegrass legend Lester Flatt while just a teenager, and went on to work with Johnny Cash's band, but by the end of the '80s he was a country star in his own right. He lit up the charts with hits like "Tempted," "This One's Gonna Hurt You (For a Long, Long Time)" and "Hillbilly Rock." In later years he became a standard-bearer for classic country, mixing it with rock and folk influences as the muse demanded, achieving what amounts to the truest form of Americana.

I have to say I went to this as apart of my Mom's Mother's Day gift. I am not a country music fan at all! But the show was terrific and I loved Dolly showing up! We had a blast, Marty and his gang were fun, and are coming back next year :)

Awesome Night @ the Marty Stuart Late Night Jam

by dolphinkja on 6/10/11Ryman Auditorium - Nashville

What a great night of Music with Marty Stuart, Dolly Parton, Mel Tillis, Ricky Skaggs and many many more. I am not much of a country fan however I do enjoy & appreciate talented musicians, and there was an abundance of talent in the room! Front row seats proved to top off the night for my girlfriend. Until Mel Tillis gave her a guitar pick! Hope to do this again for many years to come! Maybe Marty will introduce a little Prog music to the country fans! We came up from Fort Lauderdale to attend the CMA Festival. This proved to be the best of the entire 5 days. Great show!

    We had a blast!

    by NanCee3 on 6/10/11Ryman Auditorium - Nashville

Our first time at the Marty Party! Marty Stuart and the Fabulous Superlatives were absolutely great! We would have gone just to hear them play. But the rest of the stars that filled the stage were wonderful as well. I am a true music lover and love to just listen and be entertained. You just can't beat talent of that caliber, and at our beloved Ryman! We will be back next year.

Amazing show!! This show had everything a true country music fan would love. Traditional country music, Bluegrass, and a few Gospel numbers. Great harmonies, instrumentals, and lots of variety. A-1 all the way!!!

Marty and the Superlatives were outstanding!

by mynamewastaken01 on 10/25/10RFD TV the Theatre - Branson

This is the best three part harmony that I have ever heard. Long Black Veil is my favorite song and I have never heard it done like I heard it at this show. It was out of fabulous. And Luther Played the Boogie.... there aren't words for what Cousin Kenny does to that guitar.

Marty Stuart's Late Night Jam was Fantastic!

by shutterbugtoo on 6/29/10Ryman Auditorium - Nashville

I attended Marty's Late Night Jam to kick off the CMA Festival in Nashville, TN. It was a fantastic show, with lots of musical variety. Of course, Marty and his Fabulous Superlatives were there and were great. The show also featured Keith Urban, Gene Watson, the Tennessee Mafia Jug Band, Dallas Fraiser, and several more great songwriters and musicians. Vince Gill was a surprise guest, and gave us an amazing performance! I have attended this event for the past several years and look forward to it every year.

by Twosouthernbelles on 6/15/10Ryman Auditorium - Nashville

My Sister-n-law and I discussed selling our tickets prior to the show due to it was such a late event. We were so glad we didn't. There were several surprise guests throughout the show that was wonderful. The entire show was great, it was laid back and relaxed and some great entertainment from all ages. We especially enjoyed the children performers.

    Great Midnight Jam #9 2010

by MeMary on 6/13/10Ryman Auditorium - Nashville

From start to finish you never know who will be there, I've attended all 9 Jams and have seen so many different entertainers in all genres over the years. Of course my favorite is always Marty & the Fabulous Superlatives & the huge bonus is the debonair voice of Eddie Stubbs as emcee. You just never know who will show up after the CMT awards. Keith Urban gave us a great performance, and then Vince Gill still puts on a great show. The Opry dancers, with their "little guy". were great. Someone else always steps in if someone can't make it; i.e. Gene Watson came on over when Ronnie MIllsap couldn't make it. There is always so many to see and enjoy! This year: Keith Urban, Connie Smith, Gene Watson, March & Kell Martin, Duane Allen (Oak Ridge Boys), Cowboy Jack Clement, Ralph Mooney, Vince Gill, Mafia Jug Band, D.L. Moody. They end it all with will the Circle Be Unbroken with most who can stay coming back out on stage. And all funding goes to Music Cares to help out those musicians/entertainers who need a hand up. That's the best reason of all to be a part of this great event. All funds were going toward the flood damage last month. You never know who'll be there! Can't wait for Jam # 10!!

He may be gray but he has fire in his soul!

by Shortstride on 6/10/10Ryman Auditorium - Nashville

I have been a fan of Marty Stuart long before he was "popular" with the now crowd or was known for his TV show on RFD TV. I have always felt a connection because he is a fellow Mississippian but more than that because he is truly an entertainer. Marty was on the stage, continuously, for 3 1/2 hours and was entertaining every second. He had many "legends" pop up on stage such as Vince Gill, Dwayne Allen from the Oak Ridge Boys, Cowboy Jack Clements, and Gene Watson. He also had a heartthrob and popular artist with Keith Urban. The crowd just loved the young artists Marty brought on stage such as Apostle Paul's two sons and one of those sons played and sang "Tempted" almost as well as Marty does. There were lots of cheers for a little boy who square danced. If I have to say anything negative, it is that Marty did not have any female "legends" except Connie Smith. I would have loved to see Patty Loveless or Reba drop by. Also, Ronnie Milsaps could not make it and I was looking forward to seeing and hearing him.
