About Marty Stuart

Marty Stuart in Concert

There's not an ounce of artificiality in Marty Stuart's stage act, but you'd better believe he puts on a show. He's a natural-born entertainer who started learning about live performance by backing country music legends. As a bandleader he exudes an effortless grace that makes the music live and breathe. Stuart's got guitar chops for miles and once he digs in he doesn't mess around, but he also knows how to get a crowd psyched up in a completely organic way to amp up the fun. When he travels with his band The Fabulous Superlatives, a true country music wrecking crew of top-tier players, Stuart loves to turn on a dime from hard-charging honky-tonk roof raisers to gentle acoustic ballads, keeping the crowd in the palm of his hand every step of the way.

Marty Stuart Background

With a rich, varied career that stretches back to the '70s, there's not much Marty Stuart hasn't done. He's been a blazing-hot bluegrass guitar picker, a country-rocking rebel, a roots-conscious neo-traditionalist, a Nashville hitmaker and Johnny Cash's right-hand man. First and foremost Stuart has emerged as a keeper of the country music flame, championing authenticity above all and forsaking trendiness in favor of a deep-down country spirit. He got his start playing with bluegrass legend Lester Flatt while just a teenager, and went on to work with Johnny Cash's band, but by the end of the '80s he was a country star in his own right. He lit up the charts with hits like "Tempted," "This One's Gonna Hurt You (For a Long, Long Time)" and "Hillbilly Rock." In later years he became a standard-bearer for classic country, mixing it with rock and folk influences as the muse demanded, achieving what amounts to the truest form of Americana.

Each time I go to see Marty Stuart and His Fabulous Superlatives they get better each time! They are all so talented and know how to entertain. Marty, Kenny, Harry, and Chris have such chemistry together. I have got to have the honor and privilege of meeting Marty and the band before. They are so nice!If they are in a town nearby please don’t miss the show! Can’t wait to see them again soon. Also, can’t wait for the new album “Space Junk” to come out!!

I knew Marty & his Superlatives were going to be great. I just wasn't prepared for HOW great--how the music would fuse into my bones. I was overwhelmed and overjoyed...and now plan to listen to the set list again, again, and again. Masterful. Incredible. Marty is an amazing showman--articulate, smart, funny...and holy cow, now I have a huge crush. I'm going to see this guy and his dudes again! love to them!!! So grateful they brought their gift of music to Boise, Idaho.

Great show, lots of classic Marty style music. The Superlatives are fantastic musicians as well. The show also included some humor and had a very personal feel. Would see them again.

  • Marty and band were fabulous and superlative.!

by Eddie on 6/8/25Rating: 5 out of 5

We just saw them tonight at the beautifully restored Robbins Theater in Warren O. They were simply fantastic. There is no four person band around with this much individual and group talent. They all are consummate professionals and multi-instrumentalists. And the vocal harmonies were sublime. Best show I have seen in several years. DO NOT MISS THEM if they come your way. This is country music like it’s meant to be played.

I never tire of listening to Marty Stuart and the Fabulous Superlatives. They are not just talented, they know how to work a crowd in the best of ways. There is a perfect balance of interaction with the audience and musical performance--something many performers never seem to master. Keep up the amazing work. You all make the world a better place.
