Martha was great; got the audience involved and demonstrated that she's definitely not a senior citizen!
This was one of the best shows we have ever experienced. Martha Reeves and the Vandellas were wonderful; they put on a show! We will tell all our friends about it. They are great entertainers, and the band was great also. Wow!
Martha and the Vandellas (her two sisters) were amazing. Martha really connected with the audience, shared personal stories and gave it her all. She did all of her top hits, plus a nice tribute/shout out to Marvin Gaye, a DC native. She had everyone up dancing for "Dancing in the Streets." It was an uplifting, wonderful night. I won't forget it.
The variety of artists performing was great, however, the sound quality up where I was sitting in Mezzanine wasn't so great. I barely could hear a lot of the talking when the artists were saying something and sometimes the bands were so loud you couldn't hear the singing. It seems that the speakers were facing down toward orchestra and none of them were facing up to where we were. Other than that the music was great.
This concert was one for the ages !! So fantastic !! There were so many magnificent acts. The headliners were Martha & The Vandellas, who looked and sounded great !! They sang many of their hits such as Heat Wave, Jimmy Mack, Nowhere To Run, Dancing In The Street, and more. After the show, they did a Meet & Greet where I met Martha, and got to talk with her a bit, and got an autographed picture by Martha & the two Vandellas. Martha was so very nice !! I also enjoyed The Association, who sang Windy, Along Comes Mary, Cherish, and other hits. They also said that The Mamas & Papas only did about 60 concerts and they were at 50 of them (I assume opening for them). So they also sang California Dreaming. Very good set. I thoroughly enjoyed them. The Chiffons were amazing also. The original lead singer from 1963 was there as the lead. The other two were her daughter and niece. They sang Sweet Talking Guy, One Fine Day, and other hits. Super !! Other acts were The Vogues (5 0'clock world), Tommy Mara of The Crests (Sixteen Candles), Lenny Welch (Since I Fell For You), and the opening act was an acapella group called The Persuasions. These groups were also excellent !! The MC who introduced each act was 73 year old Majic 102.7 oldies DJ Rick Shaw, who is legendary. This was a super night to remember !! It brought back so many memories !! In the finale, all 7 acts came out to sing one collective number together. Spectacular show !!
This concert was amazing. She engaged the audience throughout the show. She also greeted her fans after the show, offering photos with her and the group. So glad I went.
This was our first show in Atlantic City and we thoroughly enjoyed it! She was truly unforgettable. I haven't seen her since the summer of '63 at the Apollo in NY.
Motown lives! Martha Reeves, the Vandellas and the backup band make for an amazingly good time. The guitarist nearly steals the show he is so good.
