    Marillion.....one of a kind!

by dpsico on 7/1/12Paradise Rock Club - Boston,

If you would like to spend some time listening to a band that is total entertainment then I suggest that you take any opportunity that you can to go see Marillion. They are all accomplished musicians with a long, continuous history of producing very different music together. Each song has it's own story to tell and to see them live is truly UNFORGETTABLE! They produce a show that will top any that you have seen. I don't mean by special effects or anything of that nature but their performance of the music itself. The band gives 110% to their loyal fans. The Paradise Rock Club was ok. The venue was intimate and it was wonderful to be so close to the band but I wish that there was some seating. The audience was one big Marillion famiy! I was also fortunate enough to meet some of the band members after the show and that is a memory that I will not soon forget.

    Finally got to see Marillion

by Playitagainfan on 6/24/12Paradise Rock Club - Boston

"and the crowd sang all the songs"... what an exciting night to remember. After following Marillion since the early 80's and collecting all of their albums and cd's my wife and I drove to Boston Mass from Florida to see my favorite band. We stood, cheered, sang and clapped for the entire 2 1/2 hr performance finally ending after 2 encores. The sound quality get better as the night wore on, keyboard volume never did get loud enough but the vocals and guitar work were great. Steve R. was excellent , Pete was energetic, Ian celebrated his birthday, and Steve H. was as strange as ever. what a great night.

    Marillion Rocked

by Island2 on 6/23/12The Opera House - Toronto

The best band you never heard of is what I tell most who look at me with that glazed eye when they hear me say Marillion, definitely one of the best whether you've heard of them or not - they are heart & soul completely invested in their music, their craft & it is truly amazing, quite simply, really very good. The Opera House is a cool old building, but it kinda ends there for me, ... no seating, standing only, was a drag & I semi dreaded going there just for the foreknowledge of this, & only attending because otherwise, I was not going to see Marillion this time around, .... It's a small theatre, & it was nice, very cool to be close to the stage & interact with the band, though the air conditioning was completely not up the the task of a three quarter full house - it was hot in there, ... Uncomfortable!!!, The boys in the band were more than drenched in sweat, I'm not sure that this did not rob them of some of their spark, their magic, though they soldiered on through the extreme sauna like heat regardless- So, simply put, I would not be in a hurry to re-visit this venerable venue, ... ever, I would, however, travel on to the next or previous venue to see Marillion, Any Day, ... They are that good.

    TRANSCENDENT

by MJSoria on 6/22/12The Opera House - Toronto

A truly amazing show held unded the terrible conditions. The venue had no AC on a scorcher of a day, and several people up front fainted from the heat. However, the band powered through it to deliver an energetic and dynamic performance. You on the West Coast - GO SEE SEE THIS SHOW.

At long last, Marillion in America

by CrazyLarry42 on 6/21/12Paradise Rock Club - Boston

Long a favorite in Europe, it is rare indeed for Marillion to play in North America but they made it up for it with this show in Boston. The band and the crowd were all in high spirits, rocking through a set of old favorites plus one new song, "Power." On a personal note, this summer marks 20 years since I first discovered Marillion when my dear friend Heather played me the song "Splintering Heart." This show brought together all my old friends for the first time since that summer, and with Heather right next to me guess what they opened with... It's as if they knew! : )

Another fantastic night with my Marillion Family.

by Brendude on 6/19/12Paradise Rock Club - Boston

As usual, another Marillion experience, it's always more than just a show. Sound was ok, except Steves Great guitar could have been a bit louder. Other than that, A great show, and yes, the air conditioning actually did work. I know, I felt it.

    Marillion - Rocks The Paradise

by Emmo5611 on 6/18/12Paradise Rock Club - Boston

Once again, Marillion show that while they hae been forgotten by many in the states, they still put on one of the most entertaining shows as any band half their age. There blazing two plus hour set was nothing short of spectacular. Would love to see them here in the states more often.

    Fantastic show by Marillion

by firsttimer5257 on 6/18/12Paradise Rock Club - Boston

I've liked this band for years, but have never before seen them live due to the rarity of their touring over here, but this show was even better than I had hoped for. The crowd was fantastic, like something from a european soccer match, with everyone singing the lyrics to almost every song. The sound was quite good, loud but crisp with the lyrics and stage rap being just as clear and inteligable. A good selection/variety of songs, I recognized about half and enjoyed them all. The played a decently long set, coming on just after 10 and playing to well past midnight.

...from a 30 year catalog of music....

by TwoWheeler on 6/18/12Paradise Rock Club - Boston

...they managed to pull out quite a few of their songs that I am -meh- about! That's just personal preference -I'm sure others there would say "That was the most awesome choice of songs EVAR!" It's just setlist roulette, I guess. The band sounded fabulous, each song, no matter how complex, was nailed, perfectly. Even poor Pete, who wasn't feeling well, managed to turn in an awesome performance. I drove 5 1/2 hours to see this show and would do it again, in a heartbeat.

    Just a great show

by Angryfornoreason on 6/18/12Paradise Rock Club - Boston

For me, discovering what they are going to play is part of the entertainment of seeing a show, so to prevent committing a spoiler, won't give away the set list. Just say that they put forth a great selection of new and old. They may look a little older, but play like they're still 25 years old. The Paradise Lounge is a small club so no stage show, just the guys up on stage, playing their hearts out. This was the first time I have ever seen them live, now I'm pissed I missed past shows. Died hard fans or new to the live show fans such as myself, should get out and see them if you can. They won't disappoint. Spoiler alert - give away the last number in the favorite moment - couldn't think of a way to write that without naming the song.

    Marillion is the best

by Anonymous on 6/18/12Paradise Rock Club - Boston

Marillion is probably the biggest cult band in the world,if you have seen them live you would know why. The set list was a collection of some their fan favorites old ( 3 Fish era ) and new . As pure their norm it was a fantastic show. I traveled 2 and one half hours each way to see them here (after also seeing them play 2 nights in NYC the same week ) so that should tell you how great they are live. It was an emotionally charged night of music.

I've seen a ton of shows and I've been a fan of Marillion for 15 years now. This was my first time seeing them, and was hands down the best show I've seen yet. Even if you're not a fan of prog rock, you will love these guys live!

    Great Music, terrible venue

by MarillionFan on 6/18/12Paradise Rock Club - Boston

As a longtime Marillion fan (since I saw them open for Rush in the late 80s), I was very excited to see them live on stage again. As expected their performance was fun and energetic, and their sound was well engineered. Unfortunately, though seats are specified on the tickets, there are no seats! There is NO seating in the venue. Arriving about 15 minutes before showtime, I was standing for 2 hours before Marillion even got on stage (warm up band and equipment changeover.) Unfortunately, having a somewhat bad back, I was in significant pain from standing less than 1/2 hour into Marillion's performance. Furthermore, it was extremely hot with people literally within 6 inches (or less) of each other. I had to eventually leave the show early, greatly disappointed. I enthusiastically recommend Marillion live, but strongly recommend you avoid the cramped, hot, seatless Paradise Rock Club-- NOT at all comfortable.

    Marillion in Boston

by Stevied42 on 6/18/12Paradise Rock Club - Boston

I was only 16 in 1983 and living in Long Island when I first heard Marillion on the radio. I was at an age where I grew up on my older brother's Progressive Rock music with the likes of ELP, Genesis, Yes and others. On Wednesday nights, a Connecticut College radio station with a DJ nick named, "The Great Deceiver" from a King Crimson Song, would play two to three hours of Progressive Rock. He was excited about this new band. I was blown away and felt like I had made the discovery of the decade. I continued to follow Marillion nearly three decades later only to have seen them three times. The first in the mid-80s opening for Rush at the Garden. Unfortunately, the crowd didn't understand them. The second in 1997 during the Strange Engine Tour where the fans paid for them to do a gig in Philly. And now, in Boston. I continue to marvel at how Steve Hogarth can do over two hours of the most passionate singing I have ever heard coupled with the amazing talents of the band. This concert was simply the best show I've seen since the gig in Philly. There will always be a special place in my heart for Marillion because it has always been my Progressive Rock band. Its a rare opportunity to see them live and in both the Philly show and Boston, I had to travel. But, I can honestly say, it was worth every penny. I also thoroughly enjoyed Sun Domingo as the opening act. This Miami Florida based band will be the next up and coming Prog band and for well deserved reasons. Very talented. As for the venue, it left little to desire. The Paradise Rock Club is nothing more than an awkwardly laid out space wider than it is long that offers no seating and no good views of the band, unless you mash your way to the stage or are first upstairs leaning against the railing. Forget ever being in the middle to see the whole band. I never even saw the drummer the entire show. A small 6-oz soda is $2 and they have no decent beer to offer. I'm also convinced they kept turning off the Air Conditioning to make it hot so people would buy more drinks. Its a shame that such a talented bunch of musicians must subject their audience to a lousy venue just because they can't afford to play at a decent place. It continues to blow my mind away that Marillion isn't huge here in the states, but, since the masses of Americans call for Bud Lite and Dominos pizza and Justin Bieber, what can one expect?

Happiness is the Road (even if you don't play it)

by Papadik on 6/18/12Paradise Rock Club - Boston

After the show, I got to thinking about the merits of being homeless and able to wander around as I like. The only bad part of this equation is that I would need money to travel the many countries to follow the band on tour. Woe is me. Great show, the only real disappointment was that I had to wait 7 years since their last appearance in Boston. They had a few minor technical issues through the first couple songs, but H conducted his way through the issues with a little help from his friends behind him and at the soundboard without missing a thing. Wish the show could have started a little earlier for old farts like me. Opening act was good, they had a little fun with us by giving Brain Damage/Eclipse a go. Bravo to both band members and their crew, see you again (and I hope soon!)
