Marianas Trench in Concert
Multi-Platinum selling progressive pop band Marianas Trench has been big news in Canada for years, and they caught on with US audiences in a major way following their acclaimed 2015 album Astoria, a slick collection of larger-than-life pop masterpieces that showcased their playful lyrical sensibility and knack for anthemic choruses. In concert, Marianas Trench is a whirlwind of emotion and attitude, rocking the stage with adrenaline-filled performances that put their tight musicianship front and center. Frontman Josh Ramsay is a born performer, and his energy is completely infectious as he sings his heart out on upbeat jams like "This Means War" and "Celebrity Status." The rest of the band keeps pace with lively performances that always leave fans thoroughly rocked and ready for more.
Marianas Trench Background
Marianas Trench was formed in Vancouver in 2001 by Josh Ramsay, a singer-songwriter and guitarist who previously fronted the group Ramsay Fiction. He joined forces with Matt Webb (lead guitar), Mike Ayley (bass), and Ian Casselman (drums), and Marianas Trench made their debut in 2002 with a self-titled EP. In 2006, the band released their full-length debut album Fix Me on 604 Records, which they supported with extensive touring across Canada. The album went gold in Canada, but its success paled in comparison to the band's 2009 sophomore LP Masterpiece Theatre, a Top 5 hit on the Canadian Albums Chart that established them as pop royalty virtually overnight. Their third album Ever After was equally well-received, cracking the Top 10 and earning a prestigious Juno Award nomination for Album of the Year, and earning the band the title of Juno Award winners for Group of the Year in 2013. Their fourth album Astoria earned them a 2016 Juno nomination for Group of the Year and unleashed the power ballad Who Do You Love. It also opened up Marianas Trench to the European market where the band toured twice in support of Astoria. Currently in the studio, Marianas Trench is hard at work putting the finishing touches on their 5th album set for release in early 2019.
Great band as always and for a sold out show, nothing is better than Irving Plaza!
Absolutely fire show. They are amazing to see live. Venue was packed but it was electric. Drinks are kinda pricey but the bartenders are so nice.
UMMMM it was bleeping amazing! They know how to put on a great show. This is the second time seeing them but in a bigger venture, because of this I wasn’t expecting him to go surprise the crowd again. Omg I almost died when he did. The music was on point again, always sounds like the actual CD. And Josh’s voice is the gift of the gods! No one can hit his high notes. They are so great, I would love to see them again if I could!
The concert was amazing!! Wet to the concert because my husband is a huge fan!! But sadly since it was a standing concert people was pushing (but not the nice, fun push) we were right in front and there was a girl just pushing because she was there since 9am and then later another one just pushing so she could be in front of us, this one was being mean and really crazy putting her elbow and not respecting a little. Other than that it was amazing
This is my third Marianas Trench concert, and I feel like they get better every time. They play their new songs while ever never forgetting the fan favorites! The performance level is unbelievable and the live singing is fantastic!! Do not hesitate to go to their concert.... if you are a fan of any kind, the live experience will enhance your love of this group even more! They continue to impress me soooo much-I have tickets to three separate cities on this tour because they are that good. I will travel hours and hours just to watch them one more time.... Trencher for Life!!!!
We loved the show, from start to finish! It was a fantastic performance and the acoustics at the Orpheum are incredible. Best MT concert we've been to, yet. Love the new songs! :)
I absolutely loved this show. The band put on an excellent show in every way. I got VIP which of course felt very rushed but I understand that setting has to be a little fast pased. My biggest negative releated to this event was that my VIP information was delivered to my junk mail (which happened to tons of people i later found out) and this caused me to believe I never recieved it. I contacted numerous ticketmaster phone numbers and email addresses, even twitter to get my VIP information and it never ended up getting resent or anything. I never got another email following up in any of the cases. So that was not helpful. Thank goodness for other fans who had the same problem that I did or I would have never recieved my information for VIP that I payed a crazy amount for. Other than that things went smoothly at the show and I had a great time.
It was an Amazing night. It was the 4th time we have seen Marianas Trench, and they never disappoint. My girls were thrilled when Josh made his way around the floor and shook our hands. It made their entire year. I highly recommend this concert for families and anyone who just enjoys fun catchy music. They have such incredible energy and are amazingly nice and talented guys. Josh’s voice makes me happy. :) The opening act they had was awesome as well. Jamie has a strong beautiful voice. I was unfarmilliar with their work before this show. However after seeing them live I have since been listening to them at home.
Marianas Trench never fails to put on an amazing show. What is even more impressive is the band’s dedication to their fans. The time spent during the VIP Meet & Greet is unbelievable and must be exhausting, but they do it with a smile and style.
This is the best band I have ever seen live! I LOVE these guys. They bring excitement fun energy and fabulous music to every show. I will definitely be seeing them again!!!!!!
This was my 30th or so time seeing these boys and they really never disappoint! So worth the long car ride! Nothing like josh coming off stage and singing with me. Can’t wait to see them again in May!
I'm not the typical MTrench demographic. My kids introduced me to them. I watched all the videos and listened to all the albums and loved the music - but nothing could prepare me for the incredibly high energy, astounding performance I was treated to. The harmonies they produce are nearly magical. I have no adequate words to describe Josh's voice and his ability to hit those notes. But more than just technical proficiency, they are flat out FUN. I've seen hundreds of concerts and this hits my top 20.
This was a great concert, but I was a little disappointed that the I didn't know in advance that this was a promotional tour for Marianas Trench's new album that dropped just a week before the concert and so I didn't know some of the songs. I also didn't like that there wasn't any vinyl of the new album for sale at the concert. I also didn't know that the last row on the floor wasn't really the last row and that there was handicap seating behind the last row on the floor and so I would have picked different seats as I had only picked those particular seats because I truly thought they were in the last row. But Marianas Trench did not disappoint and they left me desperate to play their new album over and over again.
Marianas Trench was a blast! They performed 18 total songs and played for about an hour and twenty minutes. It was a real treat to see the platinum award winning group from Vancouver, BC.
My daughters had the VIP passes. Met the band and did pictures before the show. They had a great time. Planning to catch another one of their shows too.
It was amazing. The opening acts were good and entertaining, but Marianas Trench was by far the best of the event. They had recorded video intros to some of the songs. They were really high quality and amazing. It was really cool to see. And they are just as great live as recorded. It was so fun and entertaining and wonderful. They are great performers. Their harmonies were perfect. They had one major technical difficulty that I and the rest of the crowd noticed, and apparently a few we didn't, but they took it in stride and just laughed with the crowd and continued their set. No one I met even cared about the problem. And the band made sure to stay after the show and sign for and take pictures with as many people as they could even though you could tell they were dead tired and it was after midnight. This was one of the very best shows I have ever been to, and I look forward to seeing them again.
I haven't been to a concert since 1985 ( slippery when wet). Im 47 years old now and thought i was to old to go to a concert with kids mostly as fans. But i really enjoyed it. the seats were what they call VIP but it was so far away i had to use binoculars to see him and ended up passing them around. I love Marianas Trench i was so happy to see them live. I so want to go back and see them again! Love ya Josh!
Fantastic show - Saw them earlier this year in March. I would absolutely go see them again. Really talented, fun group. Great set list of past hits and several from the last release. Interactive with the crowd - Shawn Hook was excellent as well - he was trying to interact with people but security kept making people sit down.
This was my first Marianas Trench concert! It was well worth the trip! They are amazing! I highly recommend going to see them! Shawn Hook and Repartee were both amazing as well! You won't be disappointed if you really love music!
I went all the way to Canada to see my fave band and they didn 't disappoint. They put on a great show
