MARIAN HILL IN CONCERT:

Philadelphia-based electronic pop duo Marian Hill are quickly climbing the ranks with their futuristic blend of pop, R&B, and electronica. In concert producer Jeremy Lloyd’s skittering beats and pitch-shifted samples provide an ethereal sonic foundation for singer Samantha Gongol, whose sultry vocals soar and swirl above the mix like a kaleidoscopic fever dream. In concert the pair is joined by bassist and saxophonist Steve Davit, who adds dimension to already-nuanced cuts like “One Time” with his arpeggiated sax squelches. Whether they’re mesmerizing with the minimal rhythms of “Whisky” or getting fans bouncing with the funky beat and layered vocals of “Got It”, Marian Hill takes ticket buyers on an otherworldly trip into the sonic future every time they take the stage.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Jeremy Lloyd and Samantha Gongol attended middle school together in Philadelphia, and it was there that Lloyd first heard Gongol’s incredible voice during a school talent show. After high school their paths diverged -- Lloyd studied music composition in college while Gongol cut her teeth as a songwriter in New York -- but their creative chemistry soon reunited them. After writing several tracks in Lloyd’s bedroom studio, they christened themselves Marian Hill and released their first song “Whisky”. The track was an online sensation, garnering a flurry of attention from blogs and cracking the Top 10 on Hype Machine. Their debut EP play followed a few months later, once again generating significant buzz and leading to their first live shows. With their acclaimed sophomore EP Sway generating even more excitement in 2015, Marian Hill has fans dying to catch futuristic cuts like “One Time” and “Lips” in concert.

SHAED and Marian Hill were amazing!

by NHRunningMusicMan on 10/14/16Royale Boston - Boston

SHAED was the opening act. They set the energy in motion. With a driving beat and vocals that mesmerized. You were ready to take off. Whether it was "running through the fields" or "Thunder" , your heart was pounding and your body was taking a hit from their explosive bass. Wow! What a start! There was a second group to perform. I did not revel in their performance. However, there were several that did enjoy them. Now, the performance of Marian Hill. They are cutting edge! When it comes to techno, jazzy brass, and incredible vocals of Sam Gongol. It is sensational! It is deep, smooth, and sultry! Song after song sent you on a musical ride of shear ecstasy! You have to see this group perform. They are exceptional!

This show was awesome! They have such a great presence on stage and really know how to excite the crowd. They played all of their music and brought along a super talented saxophone player. I will definitely see them live again the next time they are in Boston!

    Good sound, lacks polish

    by jbf81tb on 10/6/15The Basement - Columbus

The reason I love Marian Hill is that their work is so well produced. It's polished and precise; consistent and exciting. In their live performance, all their edges become rough. They exhibit a ton of energy, and that's great. The crowd was great too. When I was ready to be a bit disappointed, the crowd was, much to my confusion, going crazy, which helped me get back into it. Also, the opener was good. Displayed some good talent, but the inconsistency of his beat seemed a bit out of place when I fell in love with Marian Hill because of their perfect manipulation of the beat.

Honestly one of the greatest shows I have seen—and I've been to plenty. A DJ with great beats, a singer with a fantastic voice, a bassist/saxophonist who makes the crowd go wild; what else could you wish for?

    Not disappointed, never am

by BiggestFanStraightup on 10/2/15Bowery Ballroom - New York

Marian Hill was just spectacular, as always. Great music, great vibes, just great. The venue was nice and really suited their show. The band came out after and mingled with the fans so that was *heart eyes emoji* and I haven't any complaints. Definitely worth seeing!

Marian Hill - on the fast track to stardom!

by ChefMichael57 on 4/27/15THE BOOT AND SADDLE - Philly

First off- THE BOOT AND SADDLE is a very good venue to see talented new bands. The 150 cap club provides an intimate setting allowing for interaction with the artists! LITTLE STRIKE (Tamar Dart) opened the show with a combination of audio-visual effects, eclectic techno beats, acoustic guitar, and some pristine vocals! It was a solid opening set and I'm guessing her biggest stage to date. MARIAN HILL comprising of SAMANTHA GONGOL (vocals) and JEREMY LLOYD (beatmaster) could be the hottest new band on planet earth right now! Their performance was intoxicating with deep bass beats, sensual vocals and a great sax provided by STEVE DAVIT. Everything they release is great including the new song (not released yet) TALK TO ME which they played at the show. Awesome show, amazing talent- look for MARIAN HILL to rise quickly!
