About

Mariah Carey is a singer, songwriter, actress and author from Huntington, New York. Known for her five-octave vocal range and songwriting prowess, Carey is one of the best-selling artists of all time, with a record 18 No. 1 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 to her name — the most of any solo artist in music history. Carey got her start at 21 with her debut album Mariah Carey, which featured four consecutive chart-topping hits: “Vision of Love,” “Love Takes Time,” “Someday” and “I Don’t Wanna Cry.” Other albums in Carey’s early discography include Emotions (1991), Butterfly (1997), Rainbow (1999), and Charmbracelet (2002). In the mid-2000s, the singer hit the top of the charts again with her smash albums The Emancipation of Mimi (2005), E=MC2 (2008) and Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel (2009). Billboard named her single “We Belong Together” from The Emancipation of Mimi as the defining song of the decade. Also known as the “Queen of Christmas,” Carey became the first artist to score a No. 1 hit across four consecutive decades when her 1994 holiday single “All I Want for Christmas Is You” hit No. 1 for the first time in late 2019 and early 2020, a full 25 years after its initial release. Mariah’s modern holiday classic has since returned to the summit of the Billboard Hot 100 for five consecutive years running, spending a total of 14 weeks and counting at No. 1.

  • Not worth the money

    by dissappointed10 on 1/26/10Fox Theatre Detroit - DetroitRating: 2 out of 5

Mariah Carey has out a ton of Cds, and didn't sing too many songs. The ones she sang were good, but overall...it was dissappointing. After the opening act...we waited like 45 minutes for her to come on, and when she did,......she sang only an hour in a half. R u kidding me??? For the money spent on the ticket and parking, it wasn't worth it. I drove from Grand rapids, so it was even more dissappointing.

  • Mariah Carey is The Perfomer

by DetroitBoy on 1/26/10Fox Theatre Detroit - DetroitRating: 4 out of 5

The concert was excpetional, though security seem to be overjealous on anyone that had what looked like a camera, to the point of being a major distraction to Mariah and the performers ability to shine further. Its obvious that Mariah can still hold the high notes that made her famous. Her onstage banter with the audience help captivate everyone. The Fox is a great venue for shows like this. The no camera policy was clearly in view everywhere in the venue, but there are many who just can't get enough and will use thier camera. With so many phones acting as a camera/ phone - security clearly had their hands full. Problem is when your trying to enjoy the show and the "camera goons", as many around me refered to, kept a watchful eye on the crowd and getting in the way of the paying viewing audience.

  • Mariah is not a fallen angel

by Gdman on 1/26/10Fox Theatre Detroit - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

Mariah Carey is a true songbird and as beautiful as ever. What I thought was odd is she would sing songs from other artist. She has enough hits to sing for 3 hrs. No fault of hers is that her mic needed to be turned up. Sometimes the band was a little drowning. But the concert still rocked.

  • Mariah Carey a living legend!

    by pktguy2010 on 1/26/10Fox Theatre Detroit - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

Mariah Carey's performance at the Fox Theatre was outstanding, she gives an intimate performance with a big show feel. She is engaging to the audience while bringing down the house with her older ballads, newer ballads and a mix of songs from previous albums and from her current, Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel. She is definitely a diva and everyone loved it!

  • Lame show for the price

by BIGEZ on 1/26/10Fox Theatre Detroit - DetroitRating: 2 out of 5

Very dissapointed. For the money she is charging for tickets she could have put on a much better show. She performed for about 90 minutes and I would say only about an hour of that was singing songs. After doing a couple of songs from her new album it only amounted to 5-6 of her classics, which she performed pretty well. Looked like she was just going through the motions put in her 90 minutes and move on to the next town to collect more money.

  • Amazing Concert

by FEOHarris on 1/26/10Fox Theatre Detroit - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

I thought the concert was great. It had a lot more variety than I thought it would. We all know she doesn't dance, so I wasn't at all surprised that she didn't. But she more than compensated by showcasing a lot of dancers. And they danced and flipped and shaked and swung. It was very nice. Lots of energy. Mariah seemed to feel at home in Detroit. I sincerely hope she comes back. My wife even enjoyed the concert and she hates Mariah.

  • Concert was a waste of time and money

by CLaco on 1/26/10Fox Theatre Detroit - DetroitRating: 2 out of 5

I did not know most of the songs she sang, the show was mediocre to say the least. I missed a class. and spent a ton of money for nothing.

  • Mariah's still got it

    by Kel11 on 1/26/10Fox Theatre Detroit - DetroitRating: 4 out of 5

Saw Mariah Carey at the Fox Theatre in Detroit. Opening act was one of Nick Cannon's lame acts. Mariah herself was amazing. Not much performing but that's ok because she's Mariah and all she has to do is sing. Actually sang a good mix of old and new stuff. As long as she wasn't lip-syncing, her ability to belt it out AND stay on-key live are absolutely amazing. The show itself seemed a little short though... could have used a couple more oldies like "Dreamlover" or "Always Be My Baby." She did do Heartbreaker, Emotions, Honey, and Hero though. Bottom line: Mariah's still got it!

  • Mariah was amazing

by GlitteringStar on 1/26/10Fox Theatre Detroit - DetroitRating: 4 out of 5

The Fox Theatre was an amazing venue for Mariah Carey. Our seats were 20 rows from the stage and the visuals were quite good even when everyone was standing. I do have to admit that the sound wasn't as good as I would have expected.

  • EXCELLENT!

by MidlandMI on 1/26/10Fox Theatre Detroit - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

It was expensive but worth it. Who else even compares?

  • Mariah is simply outstanding !

by StinkyGo on 1/26/10Fox Theatre Detroit - DetroitRating: 4 out of 5

Mariah is definitely one of the best singers of my lifetime. Her voice is still powerful and her range unparalleled. She reaches out to the audience and makes the show memorable. I am really glad that I went to see her finally !

  • horrible

by dcerie on 1/26/10Fox Theatre Detroit - DetroitRating: 1 out of 5

maria was sitting all the time! she never moved or danced! horrible!

  • Mariah The DIva

by butifuldzastr on 1/26/10Hard Rock Live - HollywoodRating: 4 out of 5

Nariah was incredible as always, wonderful vocals, no lip syncing. She didn't dance much in this tour. Her outfit changes were beautifullll. I just HATE how she doesn't allow cameras though.. sucks for us. I had to sneak in a small camera and used that through out the show but was asked to put it away once or it'd be confiscated.. haha. Other than that It was amazing. Don't miss her if you get a chance to go!

  • up close and personal

by susud on 1/26/10Fox Theatre Detroit - DetroitRating: 3 out of 5

The show reminded me of a Diana Ross concert. Dont expect to be attending a spactacular show filled with dancers, cool tricks and huge screens. I didnt think too much of her dancers, as a matter of fact i dont think they were even neccessary. Her voice is AMAZING and sings throughout the entire concert. She is alittle "divaish" but in a funny way, and I would say she recognizes her audience more then most artist would. I found her to be down to earth in real (aside from her I am diva act).

  • Awesome, but too short!

by MsUnderstood on 1/26/10Fox Theatre Detroit - DetroitRating: 4 out of 5

The show was wonderful but of course being the diva that Mariah is she was late and had way too many unnecessary wardrobe changes. Vocally the show was pretty good. The only problem I had was that there were so many long breaks in between songs (thank goodness for the dancers) and lots of rambling conversation. Trey Lorenz's solo was also a highlight. The show was so short and had a very abrupt ending. Her encore only included one song- "Hero". All in all it was a great show.

  • Amazing As Always!!!!!!!!!

by Seinfan on 1/26/10Fox Theatre Detroit - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

This is all you need to know: She sang Emotions which is around 18 years old.... it sounded like they were playing the album in the venue. Her voice has only gotten better over the years- it was spectacular. :o)

  • Exceeded my expectations

    by callie0712 on 1/26/10Fox Theatre Detroit - DetroitRating: 4 out of 5

I am a fan of the "old" Mariah Carey. I didn't know what to expect going to this concert. I was sure that she would play her entire new album to promote it. She actually played a little something from many of her old albums. She had the audience on their feet dancing and singing most of the show (with time to rest your feet during the softer songs). The dancers were a great addition to the show. I was completely entertained. They brought a certain "sex appeal" to the show. Mariah can still belt out those high notes. Her voice was true and right on. She smiled throughout the show, was interactive with the audience and seemed to enjoy the show herself.

  • mariah has the most amazing voice

by ZumbaKing on 1/26/10Fox Theatre Detroit - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

EXCELLENT SHOW!!!!! Mariah doesn't move much, but she had great dancers, back-up singers, and band. There was plenty going on onstage. Debbie Allen choreographed the dancers and they were sexy and beautiful. Mariah was funny and charming and she hit those notes that she is so known for,and that I love to hear. She sang alot of remixed versions of her songs that are not as well known, but I knew them and appreciated her doing them live. MARIAH CAREY is such a DIVA and lived up to it in the best way in this show. She proved once again that her voice is her greatest assest and that it is real and not studio work. BRAVO BRAVO!!!!!!!!

  • Mariah is a Real Singer.

by FanofMariah on 1/26/10Fox Theatre Detroit - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

The Show was great. She sang 18 songs and let us hear why people call her the voice. She looked beautiful and sounded amazing. I can't wait until she comes back.

  • Mariah Carey seemed off at times :(

    by jujuk25 on 1/26/10Fox Theatre Detroit - DetroitRating: 2 out of 5

The no camera rule was absolutely ridiculous!! That did it for me..
