Marcus Mumford on Tour

Marcus Mumford is a British-American singer, multi-instrumentalist and producer best known for his many years performing with folk-rock greats Mumford & Sons.

Born in 1987 in Yorba Linda, California, Mumford moved back to the UK with his family as a baby and grew up in Wimbledon Chase, London. While studying at King's College School, he met future bandmate Ben Lovett. In his first year at the University of Edinburgh, he recorded Mumford & Sons' standout debut album Sigh No More (2009), which featured singles "Little Lion Man," "Winter Winds," "The Cave," and "Roll Away Your Stone."

Prior to that, Mumford (along with other members of his band) toured with Laura Marling, with Mumford on percussion.

Two years after the release of Sigh No More, Mumford made Forbes' 30 Under 30 list, which also included Adele and Rihanna that year. Mumford & Sons have released three more albums: 2012's Babel, 2015's Wilder Mind and 2018's Delta.

In 2013, Mumford contributed a cover of the folk classic "Fare Thee Well (Dink's Song)" for the 2013 period film Inside Llewyn Davis. In 2014, Mumford appeared on the collaborative album Lost on the River: The New Basement Tapes alongside other artists such as Elvis Costello, Rhiannon Giddens, Taylor Goldsmith, Jim James, Jay Bellerose, and T Bone Burnett.

As a producer, Mumford has produced Christian Letts' (Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros) 2015 album Hold Fast. He also co-wrote four tracks for the record: "Copper Bells," "La Mer," "Emeralds," and "Matches."

Mumford has also contributed instrumentals to a number of tracks from his contemporaries, including on Taylor Swift's "Cowboy Like Me" (from 2020's Evermore) and Tom Morello's 2018 track "Find Another Way." His vocals are featured on Major Lazer's 2020 song "Lay Your Head On Me." He also wrote the theme song for the hit TV show "Ted Lasso," which premiered on Apple TV+ in 2020.

In July 2022, Mumford announced his debut solo album Self-Titled would be out that fall. Produced by Blake Mills, Self-Titled features guest spots from Brandi Carlile, Phoebe Bridgers, Clairo, and Monica Martin. Its lead single is "Cannibal," which has a video directed by Steven Spielberg.

Show was great; opening act though??

by moonmoney77 on 11/10/22Beacon Theatre - New York

Seriously though - Marcus was great, special guests were great, def more of an acoustic vibe which I knew going in. But the opening act (The A's)? What on earth was that? Never seen so many people waiting for an opener to end...or go in and then leave after a song or two because they were that odd. Also, as a side note: Dynamic Pricing is just ridiculous.

    Amazing!

by Lauren93 on 11/10/22Beacon Theatre - New York

Marcus put on an amazing show. I’d definitely go again if I got the chance. This isn’t a show to miss. This was my first time at the Beacon Theatre and it did not disappoint. The sound system truly is the best. What wasn’t the best was $6 for a 20oz bottle of water.

    He ruined me

by Loretta on 11/9/22State Theatre - Portland

Marcus Mumford ruined me in Portland. It was simply the best concert I have gone to in years. He spoke to the crowd, performed like a beast, and even through in some songs without electricity that had me close to tears. He’s easily worth every penny spent to go to this show. I only wish I could keep following him. ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

    Great Concert!

by Krash on 11/8/22State Theatre - Portland

As always, Mr Mumford gave an outstanding performance. We are big fans of M&S and were excited to see his solo work. This small venue felt like the perfect place to tell his story. We were treated to the old and the new. Marcus sang a couple of unplugged pieces. And we enjoyed his banter with the audience. (Too bad a couple of the patrons went a little too far, bordering on rude.) We traveled 1,400 miles to attend this concert and were not disappointed.

    Amazing

by Mare on 11/8/22State Theatre - Portland

Marcus Mumford is so incredibly talented! His sound is so beautiful and sounds like an album! I won’t take a star away but the opening act, The A’s, was just not what I expected at all. While talented just not my thing and from the sounds of it most everyone felt the same way.

    Fantastic Memorable Show

by Mark P on 11/8/22State Theatre - Portland

I have seen hundreds of concerts over the years and this one would rank in my top 10. Marcus was able to interact with the crowd, convey his musical ability, and make his new music ring in an amazing way.

    Amazing

    by Berts on 11/8/22

Big Marcus fan. He was amazing. His voice, interaction with audience, performance couldn't have been better. His surprise guests, Oscar Issac and Taylor Goldsmith from Dawes made it even better. Would definitely go again. Plus Beacon Theatre is a wonderful venue.

    Ok Concert

by Linda Z on 11/8/22The Anthem - Washington

The opening singers had great voices but were not the genre of music that I was expecting. And, they weren't very entertaining. Marcus Mumford sounded great... but his new music was a bit too mellow. Also, he played a song unplugged and it was just difficult to hear.

    MARCUS CONCERT

by GENE on 11/7/22The Met Philadelphia - Philadelphia

Marcus was outstanding. Good to see him after several years away from touring. His band was very good also. Still would like to see Mumford & Sons back on the road. The opening act The A's, was another story. They had beautiful voices, but the songs were NOT anywhere close to the genre of music that I would have expected. Sounded like songs from the 1920's Southwest. Most of the audience was in agreement. Please find another opening act!!! Overall a great experience.

    Amazing!

by Em Hanke on 11/6/22The Met Philadelphia - Philadelphia

It’s a rare and beautiful thing when a performer that is amazing recorded is somehow even more amazing live. Mumford’s vocals and abilities on the guitar were put on center stage during this solo tour. My favorite parts of the performance were when it was just him and his guitar on stage. This was a birthday present for my mother who wasn’t familiar with his solo work prior, and she’s been listening to the album on repeat since!
