MARCUS MILLER IN CONCERT:
Bass guitar legend Marcus Miller has lent his fast-fingered session skills to everyone from Miles Davis to Michael Jackson, but lately it's his solo work that's been bringing the heat. Taking the stage with an unparalleled group of jazz musicians, Miller holds down the groove for the duration of his marathon sets, soloing in turn with his bandmates at shows that often top two hours. Just to give you an idea of how committed these guys are, their encores often extend for up to 45 minutes — a perk fans can expect as the band hits the road for their 2014 tour.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Brooklyn-born Marcus Miller was raised by a musical family that included his church organist father and jazz pianist cousin. By 13, he had mastered multiple instruments and begun penning his own tunes, becoming a sought-after session musician just a few years later. As a session player, he worked with a veritable laundry list of legendary artists, including Herbie Hancock, Mariah Carey, and Frank Sinatra, concurrently playing bass for Luther Vandross between 1981-2007. He formed his own band in the early '80s, making his solo debut with 1983's funk-inspired Suddenly and releasing a score of albums over the ensuing decades. Ever the multi-talent, Miller also acted as a producer on numerous Grammy-winning recordings for artists including Chaka Khan, David Sanborn, and Miles Davis. Back on the road in 2014, Miller and co. are sharper than ever, setting high expectations for their upcoming tour dates.
FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:
"Funky and tight, Marcus' band tore through 2 sets that had everyone in the audience smilin', clappin', and rockin' in their seats."
"Marcus Miller and his band were awesome! The drummer, keyboardist, horn section, and guitar all were amazing. Loved the solos."
"Great show and a great band accompanying him. A three hour show, even the encore was 45 minutes. Not a disappointing minute from beginning to end."

Bought tickets at the recommendation of my son’s bass guitar teacher and much to both of our delights, Marcus Miller did not disappoint. Bass skills are other level and same can be said for his band.
Was astonished by Marcus Millers' range of talent. Had no Idea he played other instruments. Totally enjoyed Jonathan Butlers' and David Sanborns' performance. Love Berks Jazz Fest!!!!
Any time you can hear Marcus Miller and David Sanborn together on stage is a complete treasure. Jonathan Butler was the perfect artist to complete the show. The energy on stage and the music were simply amazing. I didn't want it to end!
The show was a wonderful musical event. I didn’t realize how such greatness in sound could come from a bass guitar. Marcus Miller is very gifted and talented artist/musician, writer/producer/composer. Looking forward to his next show. Love 💕 it!!!
The Birchmere is an venue, i recommend you see your favorite performers there.
Great show, great venue, the Birchmere never fails to provide a super music experience!
Marcus Miller is an amazing talent who has surrounded himself with an equally talented group of musicians. The Birchmere is a really nice venue, with great cocktails and even more amazing food. Highly recommend!
Sound great, venue great, atmosphere great, artist off the chart!
Marcus did not disappoint! Fantastic show, great food & wonderful energetic crowd!
We always enjoy the concerts at Ludlow Garage. First time seeing Marcus Miller and it was an awesome experience. GREAT NIGHT!!!!!!
His is as tight as can be don't miss an opportunity to see him
This is one of the best concerts I've been to. I had never seen Marcus live. At one point, I said to my boyfriend, "The way he plays is just impossible! How can he play so intricately and fast?" His support band was amazing too. They played a song that the keyboardist never played before and Marcus shouted out chords and off they went. Good lord. I came out of the experience exhausted - in the best way. By the way, we got there early and Marcus was getting there too. He stopped and shook our hands and sincerely thanked us for coming. We were giddy!
Oh my goodness this was an amazing show. Marcus played the heck outta that bass.
Outstanding concert, Marcus is a bad boy. Seating was awesome no bad seats in the house
Marcus was Marcus! Anytime he plays it deserves five stars. He surrounds himself with world-class musicians, they deserve five stars. The live sound was a detriment to these worthy musicians. Anytime Alex Han (or the band) started playing more dynamically (louder) during his solos, Alex disappeared in the mix. You could see his fingers moving but couldn’t decipher anything he was playing.
Next time at the Ludlow Garage I'll get my ticket sooner to get the better seat. It was a good show great ambience and sound. I'll be back for Sanborn.
Marcus Miller and his contingent of musicians put on an excellent show. He performed new songs from his album being released and old songs. He did some Motown songs with his special interpretation with his bass instrument. he allowed his musicians to get loose on all the songs playing their instruments magnificently! He came on stage at close to 8:30 and performed until close to 11PM. It was a G-R-E-A-T show and I would go again if he comes again to the area!!!!!! Excellent. Excellent, Excellent!!!!!!
Marcus was amazing! The band was tight! The impromptu “Maputo” is a classic. Can’t wait to see them again! Incredible night. My clothes are still “funky!”
First off this was my first time going to the Ludlow garage! Perfect intimate jam venue! I mean it's like having great seats @ a big venue. It was just right. He seriously brought the funk! His whole band was awesome. Not only Marcus! The drummer had to be tired. When each member got their own solo jam part the drummer stayed on point. The whole Marcus Experience was memorable! He mainly played things off of his new cd. Which was good. But I did come to hear him play " Power". Didnt' get it but was still pleased with the time nevertheless! I will go see him everytime he comes back to Cincinnati now!
