MARCUS MILLER IN CONCERT:
Bass guitar legend Marcus Miller has lent his fast-fingered session skills to everyone from Miles Davis to Michael Jackson, but lately it's his solo work that's been bringing the heat. Taking the stage with an unparalleled group of jazz musicians, Miller holds down the groove for the duration of his marathon sets, soloing in turn with his bandmates at shows that often top two hours. Just to give you an idea of how committed these guys are, their encores often extend for up to 45 minutes — a perk fans can expect as the band hits the road for their 2014 tour.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Brooklyn-born Marcus Miller was raised by a musical family that included his church organist father and jazz pianist cousin. By 13, he had mastered multiple instruments and begun penning his own tunes, becoming a sought-after session musician just a few years later. As a session player, he worked with a veritable laundry list of legendary artists, including Herbie Hancock, Mariah Carey, and Frank Sinatra, concurrently playing bass for Luther Vandross between 1981-2007. He formed his own band in the early '80s, making his solo debut with 1983's funk-inspired Suddenly and releasing a score of albums over the ensuing decades. Ever the multi-talent, Miller also acted as a producer on numerous Grammy-winning recordings for artists including Chaka Khan, David Sanborn, and Miles Davis. Back on the road in 2014, Miller and co. are sharper than ever, setting high expectations for their upcoming tour dates.
FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:
"Funky and tight, Marcus' band tore through 2 sets that had everyone in the audience smilin', clappin', and rockin' in their seats."
"Marcus Miller and his band were awesome! The drummer, keyboardist, horn section, and guitar all were amazing. Loved the solos."
"Great show and a great band accompanying him. A three hour show, even the encore was 45 minutes. Not a disappointing minute from beginning to end."
Marcus and the band were on point. Great performance.
Thee concert was great the only thing that was bad was the parking. They could have more than one way out
Marcus Miller and his crew gave a top drawer performance! Loved every minute of it! Also was very appreciative of the Birchmere staff member who chased us down to help us find good seats. Never had that happen before!
Marcus Miller is an extraordinary performer and entertainer. Truly worth the trip from Atlanta to D.C.
As always, Marcus gave an outstanding performance. His band was on fire. Great playing and singing. I had a great time.
Talented musicians. Interesting music. TOO LOUD. Uncomfortable volume even with very good earplugs. Couldn’t stay, which was disappointing since all of the Marcus Miller recordings we had heard were easy to enjoy.
Marcus Miller is a genius on bass. He has an amazing band and they performed a phenomenal show. He is worth seeing and a 'deep dive' with your favorite streaming service will pay big dividends. Enjoy!
Marcus Miller always gives a fantastic funked-up performance. His band (comprised of sax, trumpet, keyboard, and drum) is right on point as well. There is never one person in the crowd that is not moving to the beat or dancing in their seat! He gives ample amounts of his latest material, his take on past hits, and improvisation. We had the pleasure of a guest vocalist that Marcus brought up to give a superb version of legendary Luther Vandross' Bad Boy/Having A Party. (Everyone in the audience was singing right along) Performing at the Birchmere Music Hall is also a benefit because it is an intimate setting and all of the audience are close up to the action.
Marcus continues to deliver exceptional music and balances his best known classics with fresh, up-and-coming talent! I’m going again and bringing my children next time to see him live!
The venue (The Birchmere) was incredible - this was my second show there having seen Victor Wooten a couple of months ago. Got there super early to make sure I got a good seat and it was worth the wait! Everything I would expect from MM given his extensive catalogue. Not only was the show simply fantastic, but I got to meet him and have him sign one of his signature line basses - and he wasn’t signing autographs! What a fantastic experience!!
Fantastic show Marcus was at his best great venue great crowd
Marcus always leaves you breathless! The set was complimented with fan favs but also a guest star! Leon Timbo gave a soulful and lovely version of Never Too Much. And Use Me has GOT to be on Marcus' next album! What a night!
This was my first time seeing Mr. Marcus Miller. I truly enjoyed the music. He is masterful with his bass guitars. His staff: Horns, Organist & Drummer we’re all on point. If you want to see a great show - purchase tickets to see Mr. Marcus Miller! I got the WOWWWWW affect ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
A great show, by a great band and leader, Marcus Miller.
Marcus Miller and the venue do it again and provide us with a sensational show and service. Marcus was on point and phenomenal . The Birchmere did their usual great job of handling and serving the fans and patrons of the show.
The concert was soooo wonderful! His music and his performance is soooo amazing and special. I have been a fan for years and he gets better and better. When he’s in the area again I’ll be there although I have traveled as far as NYC to see him. Please come back to DC soon!!
He is great on the bass and has a great personality dealing with audience. His interactions with us made him appreciate him even more. He looks great too like he takes care of himself….impressive! I have been to several of his comvcertttf
Fantastic performance, great band and the same thrilling Marcus!
I truly enjoyed it, and the venue was perfect. However the only thing that could have made it better was if Jonathan Butler could have played the music that made him famous and not the traditional stuff from his home land,
I enjoyed the Berks Jazz Festival!!! Marcus Miller was phenomenal!!! I enjoyed Dave Sanborn and Jonathan Butler!!!! I cannot wait until next year.
