About

Marcus King faces heartache, addiction, and mental health head-on in his music. Pain quakes below the vibrato of his voice, and his delivery weighs heavy with booze-drenched regrets and mistakes in lonely hotels. The GRAMMY® nominated fourth generation musician from Greenville, SC, started playing guitar at 8-years-old following in the footsteps of his guitarist Father and Grandpa. Logging thousands of miles on the road as "The Marcus King Band," he established himself with unparalleled performance prowess. During 2020, he linked up with Dan Auerbach and cut his solo debut El Dorado, garnering a GRAMMY® Award nomination for "Best Americana Album." Between headlining venues, he performed alongside Chris Stapleton, Greta Van Fleet, and Nathanial Rateliff in addition to gracing the bills of Stagecoach and more. He has launched various mental health initiatives, including a guitar auction collaboration with MusiCares. Now, his 2024 album Mood Swings feels like the moment of baptism when water washes away a life's worth of sins and degradation and all that's left is a revived, yet still real-as-hell primal scream. It's as if King strained raw soul straight from his gut up through that broken heart and on to the record under the watchful eye of Rick Rubin. Emphasizing his vocals front-and-center more than ever before, the trusty guitar he's so often associated with plays the sideman this time around (though there's no shortage of impressive shredding). For as dark as everything seemed, you can't help but feel a sense of hope in the power of Marcus's voice.

    2 Great Bands

by tfroeh on 8/29/18The Cambridge Room at House Of Blues - Dallas

Both Bishop Gunn who opened and Marcus King, the headliner were great. 2 complaints mainly have to do with the venue. 1)Standing only in the Cambridge Room at HOB and 2) the sound mixing was poor, Bishop Gunn was too loud overall and Marcus Kings voice and guitar were both drowned out by the instrumental volume. His voice and guitar are central to the sound of the band and unfortunately the sound mix did not allow that to come through. But Marcus and his band are phenomenal and I was really impressed by Bishop Gunn.

    Marcus King / Bishop Gunn

by JGSeabolt on 8/29/18The Cambridge Room at House Of Blues - Dallas

Awesome music!!! These two groups live are over the top amazing. I would go see them every week if I could especially Bishop Gunn. Cambridge room was kept a little too dark and was hard to maneuver during the show.

    Marcus flat out Rocks!

by Stressitout on 8/20/18Birchmere - Alexandria

3rd time I have paid to see Marcus King this year and this was by far the best. I took 3 others with me that had never heard of Marcus and they are also now big fans. Seeing him at the Birchmere in the front room made it even better. I expect this might be the last time I see this talent in a small venue.

    Marcus King Badass

by Nedernole on 11/2/17State Theatre - St Petersburg

Marcus King Band brought energy and jam to the State Theatre. A fantastic show. Marcus is the best guitarist most of the crowd will ever see/hear live. He is a true talent. The band sounded solid and we're fun. Doors opened just after 7 and MKB did not take the stage until after 9:30. Just FYI.

    Marcus King Band Amazing

by Pinsy11 on 11/2/17State Theatre - St Petersburg

One of the best concerts I've been to. The band was so tight and played "in the pocket" all night! Marcus King is a true talent with his gift for songwriting, his amazing vocals and his ability to blend different styles of guitar playing into one song and make it sound effortless with the flow! Would go see them again any time! Lots of my musician friends were also there and were equally blown away by this young and upcoming talent and his impressive band!

Amazing show. He is one of the most talented new guitarists ever.At 21 years old, he is already better than almost all other guitar players out there.

    Marcus King brings it.

by TheFatManRocks on 11/2/17State Theatre - St Petersburg

Marcus and band are tight group of blues (with a jazz twist) musicians that delivery one infectious groove after another. They are clearly having fun and everyone in the band gets their turn to shine. The only downside was a bad sound mix, otherwise a great show. The State Theare is a nice intimate venue and a friendly staff.

What an outstanding talent and fantastic supporting band. He and his group seamlessly weave through originals and old favorites literally without missing a beat. So glad I got to see him at this stage in his career.

by WIGSWORLD on 12/16/1620th Century Theater - Cincinnati

Absolutely spectacular performance. The opening act was quite solid and once Marcus King took control of the stage, the music turned electric. He has talent that definitely transcends his age. So fortunate to see him now - he is going to blow up and be a massive presence in the jam scene.

    The Marcus King Band

by Stlouisstevel on 12/8/16Duck Room at Blueberry Hill - St Louis

We saw the Marcus King Band on 12/5/2016 at The Duck Room (Blueberry Hill), in St. Louis, Mo. It was our first experience seeing the Marcus King Band, which will be the first of many. The entire band gave a great performance, in this intimate setting. Marcus has a very refreshing approach to both guitar as well as his vocals. (This guy is going to be a top billed performer, VERY soon). I was previously in a working band, for something like 15 years...and you can tell there is something very special about Marcus, as an artist. I would prefer his vocals to be hotter in the mix and a bit lower bass...which could be corrected in the P.A. (yes, I walked the room to check the levels) His vocals don't project as some other vocalists, but with some creative mic/amp baffle placement, this could be improved. His guitar tone was simply outstanding, thru the Fender Blackface Super Reverb. Songs with tempo changes and volume swells, have far more "flavor", than the typical song. Their style is Jazz-Infused /Twang-Inclected /Psychodelic/Southern Rock/Soul-Sensation ......Should you go see the band.....100% YES
