About

Marcus King faces heartache, addiction, and mental health head-on in his music. Pain quakes below the vibrato of his voice, and his delivery weighs heavy with booze-drenched regrets and mistakes in lonely hotels. The GRAMMY® nominated fourth generation musician from Greenville, SC, started playing guitar at 8-years-old following in the footsteps of his guitarist Father and Grandpa. Logging thousands of miles on the road as "The Marcus King Band," he established himself with unparalleled performance prowess. During 2020, he linked up with Dan Auerbach and cut his solo debut El Dorado, garnering a GRAMMY® Award nomination for "Best Americana Album." Between headlining venues, he performed alongside Chris Stapleton, Greta Van Fleet, and Nathanial Rateliff in addition to gracing the bills of Stagecoach and more. He has launched various mental health initiatives, including a guitar auction collaboration with MusiCares. Now, his 2024 album Mood Swings feels like the moment of baptism when water washes away a life's worth of sins and degradation and all that's left is a revived, yet still real-as-hell primal scream. It's as if King strained raw soul straight from his gut up through that broken heart and on to the record under the watchful eye of Rick Rubin. Emphasizing his vocals front-and-center more than ever before, the trusty guitar he's so often associated with plays the sideman this time around (though there's no shortage of impressive shredding). For as dark as everything seemed, you can't help but feel a sense of hope in the power of Marcus's voice.

  • Great band!

by Marymac on 10/15/25Prairie Home Alliance Theater - PeoriaRating: 4 out of 5

Marcus is such a great guitarist! We've seen him a few times, and saw him at Kenny's Westside pub during the "polar vortex "! That being said, he just didn't seem to want to be "playing in Peoria "Sunday night. Kind of a drab performance. Great musicians in his band, though.

  • Bad sound

by Lago606 on 10/15/25Prairie Home Alliance Theater - PeoriaRating: 2 out of 5

I was seated in the 4th row center and the sound was very muffled. Could hardly hear Marcus King. I left after only a few songs.

  • Marcus King at Channel 24

    by Concert goer on 8/7/25Channel 24 - SacramentoRating: 4 out of 5

Love Marcus King. Had seats at Channel 24. Sound really distorted. Couldn’t hear lyrics! Disappointed!!

  • Great venue but disappointed in MKB

    by D.U. on 8/5/25Channel 24 - SacramentoRating: 2 out of 5

Love the venue channel 24 and the opener Angel White but was super disappointed in Marcus King. Overplayed guitars /bad jam session that was all over the place . Each instrument seemed to be competing for center stage. Felt like they could turn it down and lose one guitar so you could actually hear what was going on. We left early. 😫

  • Great music, inconsiderate audience

    by Smacd on 8/5/25Channel 24 - SacramentoRating: 4 out of 5

The performance was great, but there were far too many people talking throughout the show. I didn’t pay money to hear them yammer. Perhaps all the communications prior to the show could remind people to take their conversations to the lobby, so those who care about the music can hear it

  • Guitars were face melting

by Jordan on 7/30/25Knitting Factory - Boise - BoiseRating: 5 out of 5

Haven’t seen anyone play the guitar like that in a bit. That duo was up there w Derek & Susan! Great show and they played for a while!

I love this kid! Second time seeing him. Traveled down from Ohio to see the show. It’s a good thing I was on the back row in front of the sound table because I did not sit down—danced all night.!!!! Thank you darlin for the one of the best shows I’ve seen—and I’m an d lady❤️😘

  • Marcus Great! Venue not so much.

by Craiggar on 1/2/25Hard Rock Live Bristol - BristolRating: 4 out of 5

Marcus and the band were wonderful and SO talented! The guest appearance from Marcus' father was beyond great! Would encourage anyone to go catch them live - will look for another location to go see them again. The venue (Hard Rock Bristol) is new and it shows - individuals running the cameras were not paying attention to the music, the sound mix was off, especially vocals, which were distorted in many instances. The entrance line for the venue extends into the Casino - so you get smoke filled area to wait in and the line extended in front of restrooms so lots of bumping and interference. I will also state that the price for concessions was ridiculous - yes I know you're a captive audience once you enter, but I travel to many concerts and the concessions was way overpriced with a poor selection (so my group passed).
