Marcus Johnson is an exceptional artist and I prefer the intimate atmosphere of the Attucks Theater.

Rating: 5 out of 5 Marcus Johnson, Sylver Logan Sharp & Marshall Sims
by CassieLh on 8/5/14Howard Theatre - WashingtonThis was my first time being at the Howard Theatre and it was a spectacular night. Young Mr. Sims started the night off and he will be a person to keep your eye on. Sylver Logan Sharp, what can I say about the DC Diva in action!!! She just gets better with time and I mean that. Your voice is stronger than ever, so keep doing what you are doing!! Marcus, as always you never disappoint. Your music is divine!! My first love has always been the piano and you make those keyboards really sing. I look forward to seeing them all again!!

by Flygirlforever on 8/1/14Howard Theatre - WashingtonThe Venue was over the top. I haven't to the Howard Theather since James Brown was there in July 1966. I enjoyed the line-up. The Marcus Johnson's playing was over the top. Sylver Logan Sharp was in fine form and her singing was amazing. Marshall Sims represented Howard University well. Marshall you do DC proud.

Rating: 2 out of 5 I was surprisingly disappointed
by MusicDivaDC on 7/14/13Blues Alley - WashingtonFirst let me start by saying, Marcus Johnson is a very talented musician! And the band members, believe referred to as Urban Groove, were absolutely wonderful. The horn section was especially outstanding. However, my vibe decreased when Mr. Johnson brought up singer Allyson Williams. Ms. Williams opened by saying, "Marcus told me to do less talking and more singing" and she did the absolute opposite. Although Ms. Williams is a great singer, her need to have a gabfest overshadowed her vocal talents, and took up what seemed to be a good portion of the entire Marcus Johnson experience. And to top it off, once Ms. Williams was done Mr. Johnson proceeded to do a musical twist on a few lullabies, I get it great tribute to his daughter, but after Ms. Johnson's underwhelming performance it did little to reignite the vibe that was much needed at that point. The icing on the cake is there was a very annoying woman who obviously was a friend of Marcus and Allyson, who continued to yell as Marcus was trying to engage the audience with conversation. I wanted to say how much I enjoyed the concert but sadly I am not able to and will not be seeing Mr. Johnson in concert again.
