About

Lebanon's greatest singer, composer and UNESCO Artist for Peace performs for one night only at Hamer Hall - with the Al Mayadine Ensemble.

Renowned as the Bob Dylan of the Middle East, Marcel Khalifé is considered an artistic revolutionary the world over. A master of the oud (the unfretted Arabic ancestor of the European lute), Marcel injects new life into its heritage with avant-garde interpretations of Arabic classics.

Working with the great contemporary Palestinian poet, Mahmoud Darwish, he renews the character of Arabic song, creating intense and emotive pieces that are an intoxicating blend of memory and hope.

Using propulsive rhythms and colourful timbres, Marcel combines ancient Middle Eastern traditions with Western-styled instrumental compositions and passionate folk idioms to create a musical dialogue that has a power that reaches beyond the Arab world.

Revolution singing, turned to piano playing

by Lingyff on 12/10/16Town Hall - New York

We came to hear great singer preform, and rock the stage. Instead we listened to a pianist playing. It looks like he came to market his kids. Total disappointment.

He's a tired artist who should retire...Didn't get my money's worth, very different than I've expected

This is like once in a lifetime experience

by OudLover on 5/4/12Town Hall - New York

Marcel was at his best, despite town hall being at its worst. Marcel spoke of technical difficulties his ensemble had with the speakers and stuff. Still, was a great concert!

Marcel Khalife and his group were great

by Palestine48 on 5/2/12Music Hall Center - Detroit

Master Marcel Khalife and his group Al-mayadin Ensemble were great, were marvelous. every one of them was great. I wish they come to my area so I can go see them again. It's a great tribute to the late Mahmoud Darwich.

    Great

by Anonymous on 5/2/12Town Hall - New York

The singer and his group were great, the event not well organized though. The doors were supposed to open at 6:00pm and we waited until 6:45pm outside for the doors to open. the event was supposed to start at 7: 00 pm but started at 7:45pm. The singer was great though.

the show was amazing and Marcel Khalife's presence is just incredible. The acoustics at Town Hall were rather disappointing though. It got better as the night went on but it wasn't what I would've expected from such a reputable venue. Other than that, there's a lot of sing-a-long so make sure you know all Marcel's songs if you're attending.

Marcel Khalifa Still has it in him

by Karim68 on 4/27/12Orpheum Theatre - Los Angeles

His new material is just as good as the classic stuff and the live band is awsome. Especially one of the vocalists, Umaima.
