MANNHEIM STEAMROLLER: CHRISTMAS IN CONCERT:

Mannheim Steamroller have been innovators of the neo-classical genre for over 40 years, blending the finest orchestral sections with electronic elements and a hint of rock to arrive at their remarkably unique sound. Not only are their live performances sonically robust, but they're visually stimulating as well, featuring an incredible light show and illustrations that dance across giant projection screens. Whether they're playing originals like "Catching Snowflakes on Your Tongue" or classics like "Joy to the World," Mannheim Steamroller will have fans in the holiday spirit this season on their 2014 Christmas tour.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Mannheim Steamroller is the alias of composer Chip Davis, who created the moniker from "Mannheim roller", a musical technique that was popular in Germany during the 1700s. Davis initially sought a record label to release his music, but the lack of interest led to the creation of his own label American Gramophone for his 1975 debut album Fresh Aire. He went on to release seven more albums in the Fresh Aire series, six of which were certified gold by the RIAA. His biggest success, however, came in 1984 with the release of Mannheim Steamroller Christmas, a massive hit and enduring classic of contemporary holiday music. Since then, his Christmas catalog has grown to include thirteen records, containing some of Steamroller's biggest hits and holding the distinction of being some of the most requested Christmas music of all time.  With more than 28 million albums sold in the US, Mannheim Steamroller will carry their musical enthusiasm with them throughout their 2014 shows.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"The band delivered from start to finish. What a wonderful way to get in the holiday spirit! Their musicianship is top notch and their performance is very entertaining."

"Great concert with remarkable renditions of Christmas music. They are a very professional ensemble that made the event enjoyable and memorable."

"I loved the Christmas concert!! The music, the video, and the interaction with the audience is amazing! I would definitely go see them again!"

Have attended concerts in several cities. This MAGNIFICENT production beats them all. I liked the arrangements of the music, variety, and instruments used by so few musicians to produce such a unique sound. These were very expensive tickets! Hesitated to purchase, however, well worth the price.

  • WOW! What a performance!

    by Deborah1955 on 11/22/10The Centre - EvansvilleRating: 5 out of 5

This concert is a must see for those who get tired of all the traditional Christmas music. Chip Davis has put his own unique touch to each song. Some of the songs go back many centuries, but they haven't lost their charm under the talented musicians of Mannheim Steamroller.

  • It was ok

    by lovemusic10 on 11/22/10The Centre - EvansvilleRating: 3 out of 5

The show was ok, after attending a show performed by Chip Davis is was not the same! They did a good job playing Chip's music but you could not see the screen very well due to the lights hitting it. Next time I would spend the money to see Chip Davis again!

Their music is unbelieveable. Timing was perfect, musicians talented beyond words. Every song was perfect and I'll do it again.

Great show - last time Chip was with them at TPAC, but this performance was just as special without him!

  • Steamrollers could have been great!

by DKMOM on 11/22/10The Centre - EvansvilleRating: 3 out of 5

It was billed as Mannheims Christmas concert. This was the third time I have saw them and while the music was brilliant as always the song list needed a 1/3 of it replaced with Christmas songs rather than whimsical/medieval tunes. The three large screens in back was a nice touch , but again a 1/3 of it related to castle's, horseback riding etc. that did not belong in a CHRISTMAS Show. The stage didn't bare many Christmas decorations.....No trees, large gift boxes, lights surrounding the musicians......quite bare. I listened to several around me both at intermission and after the show. And while the show ended strong the last 4 songs , all the talk was what was Chip and the crew thinking about in that 1/3 of the song list mentioned above and where were the Christmas decorations. You were OK/even good at times our Dear Steamrollers, but you could have been Great as we all expected with very little extra effort:( Dave Kuykendall TEAMDK@aol.com

Awesome concert! Definitely would go again. Wish I had had better seats. Some guy sat in front of me that was hard to see around. Had to lean one way or the other! Jeez.

What a perfect way to kick off the holiday season by seeing Mannheim Steamroller. I have always enjoyed their music and seeing them in concert was a memorable experience. The finale was extraordinary!

  • Rerun from last year

by John2010 on 11/21/10Von Braun Center Concert Hall - HuntsvilleRating: 2 out of 5

The performers are talented and the show was great if you had not seen the show last year. This year's show was a rehashed version of last year's show. The videos were identifical. For the money I spent for this year's tickets, I felt they should have at least had different videos. Anything to be a little different from last year. If you have never seen Mannheim Steamroller, go , it is great. If you have , don't waste your money.

  • Mannheim Steamroller is a hit!

by Anonymous on 11/21/10Von Braun Center Concert Hall - HuntsvilleRating: 4 out of 5

Highly stylized, nearly perfect musicianship was the catch-phrase of the evening. A concert more for the fifties crowd than the young, the orchestra delivered as expected, with two sets of Christmas music, the first leaning more towards Elizabethan days, the latter more toe-tapping. If you like Mannheim Steamroller, this is a concert you need to see at least once.
