MANNHEIM STEAMROLLER: CHRISTMAS IN CONCERT:

Mannheim Steamroller have been innovators of the neo-classical genre for over 40 years, blending the finest orchestral sections with electronic elements and a hint of rock to arrive at their remarkably unique sound. Not only are their live performances sonically robust, but they're visually stimulating as well, featuring an incredible light show and illustrations that dance across giant projection screens. Whether they're playing originals like "Catching Snowflakes on Your Tongue" or classics like "Joy to the World," Mannheim Steamroller will have fans in the holiday spirit this season on their 2014 Christmas tour.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Mannheim Steamroller is the alias of composer Chip Davis, who created the moniker from "Mannheim roller", a musical technique that was popular in Germany during the 1700s. Davis initially sought a record label to release his music, but the lack of interest led to the creation of his own label American Gramophone for his 1975 debut album Fresh Aire. He went on to release seven more albums in the Fresh Aire series, six of which were certified gold by the RIAA. His biggest success, however, came in 1984 with the release of Mannheim Steamroller Christmas, a massive hit and enduring classic of contemporary holiday music. Since then, his Christmas catalog has grown to include thirteen records, containing some of Steamroller's biggest hits and holding the distinction of being some of the most requested Christmas music of all time.  With more than 28 million albums sold in the US, Mannheim Steamroller will carry their musical enthusiasm with them throughout their 2014 shows.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

  • Exceptional!

by Witness to live music on 11/29/25Morrison Center for the Performing Arts - BoiseRating: 5 out of 5

One of the best Christmas musicals I've seen! The Mannheim Steamroller group produced a unique musical sound. They made typical Christmas songs sound refreshingly different. They used lighting and background pictures to a great effect.

  • Great way to start the holiday season

by LJS on 11/29/25Morrison Center for the Performing Arts - BoiseRating: 5 out of 5

We were excited to hear that Mannheim was coming back to Boise. And they did not disappoint. They played most of their Christmas classics, and some seasonal songs that we have never heard. It was a great way to start the holiday season.

  • Musical Delight

by JW on 11/29/25Morrison Center for the Performing Arts - BoiseRating: 5 out of 5

As always, Mannheim Steamroller delivers. This is the third or fourth time my husband and I've seen them in Boise, and it was truly outstanding. The creativity that goes into their music is just stunning. Enjoyed many of the popular Christmas favorites but also enjoyed the sprinkling of non-Christmas music pieces scattered throughout the performance. We love the orchestral presentation blended with base guitar and synthesizer. Genius! We truly hope they come back, sooner than later, to Boise!

  • It was o.k.

by Dave on 11/29/25Morrison Center for the Performing Arts - BoiseRating: 3 out of 5

It was pretty good but not the production or experience it used to be with a full orchestra. And once again they deviated away from holiday tunes for 3 or 4 numbers, why?

  • Unsatisfactory Sound

by Muzikriter on 11/28/25DPAC - DurhamRating: 3 out of 5

Mannheim Steamroller albums are known for their clean and well balanced sound. This performance was nothing like that. It was poorly mixed. On one slow, gentle number with a gentle oboe melody and a simple, (somewhat clunky) piano accompaniment, the piano was louder than the oboe, and the oboe did not have a sweet sound. Whether they used a special effect on the oboe or not, I don’t know. But the sound was harsh. Even the lead violin sounded harsh and not sweet at all when it soloed. Sometimes I know they had effects on the violin, but I never heard a sweet sound out of the instrument. The whole affair was extremely loud. With all of the rapidly changing lights, videos and loud sound, I guess they were trying to keep everyone interested. However, we weren’t looking for a rock concert. We hoped to hear the beautifully balanced, very beautiful sounds and super arrangements that we’re used to with this fine ensemble. But we were disappointed. We left at intermission.

  • Good show, fair venue

by Nickname on 11/28/25Tahoe Blue Event Center - StatelineRating: 4 out of 5

Show was good, there were some pre-recorded audio, but the seats were terrible. Floor seats were so close together that we all were on top of each other. I don’t think I’d do it again.

  • FANTASTIC

Such a great way to start the Christmas season! I've been a fan of Manheim Steamroller since the first album came out. A magical, fresh spin on beloved classic music.

  • The way to start Christmas

by NC Jeepman on 11/28/25Salem Civic Center - SalemRating: 5 out of 5

This is a wonderful way to start the Christmas season. It is hard to describe their music to someone that doesn't know them. It is just great music.

Music was excellent. Venue, not great. Lights were kept on during the show and seats were so close that I could not turn to watch the orchestra. Just not the best venue. Stage could have been centered and sold one side of seats so customers looked straight ahead at the orchestra.

The entire show was awesome from beginning to end. I'm looking for the 2026 schedule to see where they will be. I would like to incorporate one of their shows into a night for my tour company.

by KB on 11/26/25Savannah Civic Center - Johnny Mercer Theatre - SavannahRating: 5 out of 5

They played the favorites from the holiday albums I remember so well from the mid 80’s. With the mixing in of some of the Fresh Aire tunes it made for a great afternoon.

  • Wonderful Christmas Concert!

by Southern Ma’am on 11/26/25Savannah Civic Center - Johnny Mercer Theatre - SavannahRating: 5 out of 5

This concert was a truly delightful experience. Music is truly good for the soul. This talented group put together an amazing show. We took my 81 year old mother to her first concert and she loved it, too. We had a great time. I can’t say enough about how talented these people are. Absolutely incredible!

This was my 4th time seeing Mannheim Steamroller. This was the best yet, wonder musicians that were energetic and fun. They smiled through the entire concert! I will see them every year that I can.
