well worth the 10 year wait

by Sairy on 10/8/09Webster Hall - New York

I've been a fan of the Manics since I was 15 and 12 years later, I had yet to see them live in concert. When I found out they were playing in NYC, I could not believe it. I immediately bought tickets and started counting down the days until the show. The show itself was amazing, a good mix of newer and older material. I hope they in fact do come back in 2 years rather than another 10!

Manic Street Preachers amaze the Detroit crowd

    by sp1k33Geoff on 10/5/09Majestic Theatre - Detroit

Manic Street Preachers stunned a small, but excited, audience Friday night, Oct. 2nd in Detroit. Opening with "Motorcycle Emptiness" and progressing through a healthy balance of their old catalog and songs from their stellar latest, "Journal For Plague Lovers", the Manics seemed reinvigorated. Despite a few technical problems early in the set, the Manics played tight and James engaged the crowd between songs. Ending their set with "Design For Life" was perfect. The energy was awesome and the crowd really seemed to connect. Glad my wife and I made the journey from Texas to see one of my all-time favorite acts. I'm equally glad I got to see them tour Journal which will certainly remain one of my favorite Manics records. A big thanks to the Manics for playing the US shows.

This was one of the happiest nights of my life.

    by Alive2000 on 10/4/09Majestic Theatre - Detroit

If you know anything about Manic Street Preachers, it's that they never got big over here in the States. This is much to the dismay of those of us over here that think they're the greatest thing since someone decided to make an electric guitar. As a result, we've not gotten a tour over here in ten years. It was worth the wait. This show not only qualifies as one of the best shows of my life, but one of the best nights of my life. My wife and I had been waiting for an American tour nearly the entirety of our relationship together, and we could hardly believe it was actually going to happen. We wouldn't have traded last night for anything. It was perfect.

    The Manics rocked the Majestic

by Kendelicious on 10/3/09Majestic Theatre - Detroit

The Manics played an amazing greatest hits set featuring several tunes from their new album "Journal for Plague Lovers." There were two acoustic tunes played by James Dean Bradfield which were amazing. (This is Yesterday and The Everlasting.) The crowd was intimate and it seemed that even though the crowd wasn't the 20,000 plus they are used to in their home country they were excited to play in the States again. It's been 10 years and that is too long of a wait for such a phenomenal band.

    Excellent

by VinceJ on 10/3/09Majestic Theatre - Detroit

This is the smallest crowd I have seen them play to, and I felt bad for them. They are way better than the size of the crowd that showed up would indicate. That said, those of us there seemed pretty hard core so it wasn't all bad. They played a kind of "best of" set, which included songs from all cd's (I think with the exception of Lifeblood). They played for an hour and a half and kicked it all off with Motorcycle Emptiness.

    Well Worth the Wait!

by ChrisInMilwaukee on 10/2/09Varsity Theater - Minneapolis

I've waited 16 years to see the Manic Street Preachers in concert and it was well worth the wait! Being an American fan of the band has never been easy - they've never really caught on here in the States - and it's been a bit of a labor of love to keep up with them over the years. It's meant tracking down obscure singles and paying for higher-priced import CD's and stuff like that. It's also meant that the chances to see them live have been rare. They have not toured the US in ten years and ten years ago circumstances conspired against me so that I was not able to catch them. I was not going to miss the chance in 2009, however! I'll say this: in the last month I've seen U2 at Soldier Field and the Manics in Minneapolis and the Manics were many times better than U2. While the U2 show was unfocused, listless and by-the-numbers boring...the Manics show was full of life and energy. It was everything that the "big box" U2 show wasn't.

This was an experience of a life time - seeing the Manics in such an intimate venue was amazing! We so hope that they will come back to Denver again soon. We have Red Rocks waiting for them once the word gets out.

Manics - Best band you never heard of.

    by Redbud69 on 10/1/09Varsity Theater - Minneapolis

These guys are huge all over the world except in USA. Why? I'm not sure. They headline festivals in Europe drawing 100,000 people. There were maybe 200 people at the Varsity. This didn't bother the Manics in the least. Their show was absolutely awsome! Sounded great from the opening song to the last. Lots of energy and a great setlist. I am so glad I got to see these guys, and in such an intimate setting made this a concert I will never ever forget!! Outstanding.

    Worth the wait

by Everymansguide on 9/30/09Bluebird Theater - Denver

Some friends and I drove from Salt Lake CIty Utah to Los Angeles back to Salt Lake then onto Denver to see them again (and now back home in SLC, UT all from Thursday to Tuesday - 48+ hours of driving in a 6 day stint). It was absolutely worth every cent, and minute in that car! The Manics have been one of my favorite bands for about a decade now. The set didn't have quite as much variety from the LA show as I would have liked, but it didn't matter. I'd watch them play the same set another 10 times if I could. There were plenty of songs I'd have loved to hear in others stead, or better - additionally - but that's the brilliant thing about a band like the Manics: there are no bad songs. I hope this tour will inspire them to visit us in the US more frequently. Bands like the Manics are what rock should be! Also, The Bluebird was a great venue I hope to visit again!

Manic St. Preachers, the Dog's Bollocks!

by TelB on 9/29/09Bluebird Theater - Denver

Well, I don't know where you were last night, or what you were listening to, but, if you weren't at the Bluebird listening to the Manics then you missed something very, very special. Returning to the USA for the first time in 10 years, the boys from Wales gave the fans everything. A solid set of songs spanning their entire career was delivered with energy, cynicism and a touch of humor. The boys seemed to be enjoying the small gig intimacy and the fans loved every riff. I left this gig with my ears ringing, and my head swimming. I haven't felt this way after a live concert in at least 20 years. This was everything that live music should be about. btw if you don't know who the Manic St. Preachers are, you need to spit out that bubblegum, turn off MTV, and start listening.

Manic Street Preachers well worth the wait!

    by wmd1971 on 9/29/09Bluebird Theater - Denver

Being a long time fan, I always wanted to see MSP live, but as it worked out, finding the time to go to England to see them never happened. Luckily, then they came to my hometown and played at the very intimate Bluebird Theater. Couldn't ask for much more than that! They did play a very long even set and no complaints other than they didn't play 'Masses Against The Classes'. Highly Recommended!

    MSP!!!

by LeePer on 9/29/09Bluebird Theater - Denver

The boys continue to make a case for themselves as the Best band to never "make it" in America! Haven't seen them in 12 or 13 years. James sounds better than ever! Shawn just keeps chugging and Nikki is still camping it up but with a touch more decorum now days.
