One of Mandrill's best albums was released in 1980. Entitled "Mandrill". It was a disco album with songs like "When You Shake". Good album and definitely overlooked.
Mandrill is indeed a great band, but is it that underrated? I thought Mandrill was quite famous and successful.
Love you Mandrill! I'm soo happy that you are coming back to Philly! I will be in the house.
"Funky Monkey" by Mandrill, from their 1978 "We Are One" album, also on Vinyl 7" is a damn good track. Definitely one of my top faves.
MANDRILL was very much underated to those that didnt know. But for us that did......Fencewalk was one those jams that would take you all the way out to Planet Pluto, and then drop you back off to earth. That guitar solo got on the FENCE and WALKED it---- all the way to that last fret----- FUNKY JAM my Brothers, ya'll kill't it !!!
Mandrill is the music my dad and uncles used to rock at the house parties when I was a youngin...Me and my brother would be next door at our babysitter's house wondering what the hell that funky ass sound was!
I have two sons and I have passed down all my Mandrill Jams to them. They grew up big Mandrill fans. They have now adopted the music as their own. Good music NEVER dies.
I still have all of Mandrills albums."Composite Truth, Mandrill Is, Mandrillland........ I used to play them over and over when I was a young girl. They are still just as bad as when they started.
Mandrill is HALL OF FAME material. A lot of folks don't know, but they drove the "FUNK" train in the early/mid 70's and opened paved the way for more mainstream groups like PFUNk, EWF and the rest. Go back and check the posts and advertisement for outdoor Music Funk Festivals from 1971-1976-77. MANDRILL was the healiner over all the rest.
Fat City Strut is my FAVORITE Mandrill song. Such a JAM!
Mandrill made a lot of saturday party nights! They inspired everyone to "Lord Shake Some BOOTY......which was truly amazing for those of us (like me) that could not dance a lick. But we knew how to "Shake Our Booties" thanks to Mandrill. Love, Thanks & Peace.
Mandrill has been my favorite band ever since the 70's. The funk music is like no other. You guys are musical geniuses.
I am now 60 years young and I have not heard anything like your music since. I thank you very much for the opportunity to listen to the music.
I rock mandrill every time I spin vinyls, thank you to give such an innovation to music and life.
Man I grew up on Mandrill, and got to say all praises due!!!!! We need real music now, because there is no more soul in the stuff of today!!!!! PEACE
I grew up buying these legendary musician's records and seeing them at the Apollo and NYC parks when I was a young girl and teenager! Still powerful and mighty! Mandrill should be in the music Hall of Fame!
Mandrill is really TOO funky, gotta open some windows! These guys age like fine vintage wine.
What can one say, that hasn't been said already....the band is just hoooot! Back in the day 1970's we were on it...plugged in and tuned into Mandrill. All of members of the band were extremenly talented! The funk was so thick, you needed a chain saw to cut through it...and that's good! Cause that's the way we love it!
I've seen this band over 10 times. Mandrill is a Super Funk Groove . When they play......You Got To Get Up And Move!
