MANDOLIN ORANGE IN CONCERT:
Country folk duo Mandolin Orange combines unadorned melodies, simple chords, and no-frills instrumentation to arrive at an honest, emotional sound that's bigger than the sum of its parts. The pair's warm harmonies, poignant lyrics, and delicate mandolin and fiddle playing imbue songs like "Waltz About Whiskey" and "One More Down" with a tenderness and authenticity that never fail to move fans at their intimate live shows. Whether they're performing as a duo or playing with their talented backing band, Mandolin Orange always mesmerize and inspire with their heartfelt sets on tour.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
North Carolina-based duo Mandolin Orange formed in 2009 after Andrew Marlin and Emily Franz met at a local jam session in Chapel Hill. Their shared interest in gospel, folk, and bluegrass influenced their unique country folk sound, and in 2010 they made their debut with the hushed, introspective album Quiet Little Room. They added a bassist and a drummer for their 2011 sophomore album Haste Make, rounding out their sound without compromising the delicate vibe they established on their first album. Since then they've appeared at festivals throughout the US and shared bills with luminaries like Roseanne Cash and Chatham County Line. In 2013 they released their third album This Side of Jordan to extensive critical praise, and they continue to generate buzz with their unforgettable performances on tour.

Big fan of Andrew, Emily, and the crew. Feb 1 was just our second opportunity to see them in person. The first was at Lime Kiln and was exactly what I would hope and expect - great musicians playing great songs in an intimate atmosphere. I didn't expect intimacy at DPAC and I knew it would be a different experience. What I also didn't expect was the harshness of the sound/mixing. Most of MO's songs are quiet thoughts set to music and shared with those who take the time to listen. The mics and sound at DPAC rendered that almost impossible. Sure it was a larger venue - but it wasn't PNC Arena. It was a concert hall.
The sound of this new album is absolutely amazing! I could have listened to them sing all night long!
Mandolin Orange is my favorite band ever! This was my fourth or fifth concert of theirs and this was definitely their best. They've come so far and their sound has evolved so much. They just keep getting better!
Mandolin Orange gave a great performance. The concert consisted of new songs mixed in with the best of past ones. Third time seeing Mandolin Orange in concert. The duo gets better and better each time. Love their music!
Phenomenal music. Great show. Great atmosphere. Really enjoyed it.
This was one of the best shows I have seen at DPAC. Great new album and great opening band. I can't wait to see what they come out with next.
This was the second time that I saw Mandolin Orange in concert and to no one's surprise, they did not disappoint. I loved how close to home DPAC was for the two of them living so close by. It was sweet so know that their family was in the audience, and even sweeter to be the first concert where they shared some of their new songs live.
We have watched Mandolin Orange go from playing at Saxapahaw Saturdays, where you feed your money donation into a swan that is passed around, to filling the DPAC that has 2 balconies was an incredible experience! They never seem to disappoint and put on a great performance once again. This was a magical night and Andrew jammed on his newly purchased mandolin. Emily and Andrew harmonize so well together. If you have never seen them in concert you need to go.
My 5th time seeing MO and their shows are always amazing! The band is perfect together and each member brings so much to their overall sound. No matter how I’m feeling their music just always makes me feel better!
Mandolin Orange’s music is consistently fabulous no matter the venue. What a great night listening to these local artists play in one of the largest and best venues In the area. Thanks, MO for a fantastic evening!
Sweet, intelligent, poignant, exquisite musicals musicianship.
Amazing band. All fantastic musicians! See 'em if you can!
Great venue, nice staff, really good turnout, awesome vibe, both acts were really enjoyable: Leif Volbekk is a genuine guy that you can't help but like, and Mandolin Orange is a special group I'm delighted to have discovered in the past couple of years and finally got to see live. Super talented and friendly. Will see them again, without any doubt!
Fantastic performers, amazing musicianship and lyrics, a must see if you enjoy good music with a flavor of the South, Folk, and Americana!
Mandolin Orange and Josh Oliver were terrific! The Bijou Theater in Knoxville is a beautiful venue with excellent acoustics. Highly recommend seeing both MO and Josh any time you can. They are all three natural born musicians who love what they do. This love shines through every song....
Mandolin Orange put forth a unique blend of music that kept us entranced all night. Their wit and originality was relaxed and genuine. Hope to see them again soon!
Just an AWESOME concert! Their harmony and music literally brought tears to my eyes. Andrew's songs touch my heart like no other song have ever before. Mandolin Orange will soon be well known I'm sure. Next time I hope they have a larger vendue as this place was full to capacity!
The wife and I have been long time fans of Mandolin Orange and were pleased to see that they were in a non smoke-filled venue. Love the band, love the music, enjoyed the venue!
