MANDOLIN ORANGE IN CONCERT:

Country folk duo Mandolin Orange combines unadorned melodies, simple chords, and no-frills instrumentation to arrive at an honest, emotional sound that's bigger than the sum of its parts. The pair's warm harmonies, poignant lyrics, and delicate mandolin and fiddle playing imbue songs like "Waltz About Whiskey" and "One More Down" with a tenderness and authenticity that never fail to move fans at their intimate live shows. Whether they're performing as a duo or playing with their talented backing band, Mandolin Orange always mesmerize and inspire with their heartfelt sets on tour.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

North Carolina-based duo Mandolin Orange formed in 2009 after Andrew Marlin and Emily Franz met at a local jam session in Chapel Hill. Their shared interest in gospel, folk, and bluegrass influenced their unique country folk sound, and in 2010 they made their debut with the hushed, introspective album Quiet Little Room. They added a bassist and a drummer for their 2011 sophomore album Haste Make, rounding out their sound without compromising the delicate vibe they established on their first album. Since then they've appeared at festivals throughout the US and shared bills with luminaries like Roseanne Cash and Chatham County Line. In 2013 they released their third album This Side of Jordan to extensive critical praise, and they continue to generate buzz with their unforgettable performances on tour.

Gorgeous, fun, exciting, beautiful, and sad

    by A. on 9/9/19Ryman Auditorium - Nashville

Mandolin Orange played one of the best shows I’ve ever seen. The sheer level of mastery on every single instrument was mind blowing, and the vocals were phenomenal. I will be going to Mandolin Orange shows for the rest of my life

    A Ryman Tour de Force

by Stephen on 9/9/19Ryman Auditorium - Nashville

We travel often from Chattanooga to the Ryman and this was one of the best shows we have ever seen. The opening act and Mandollin Orange provided new, mostly original, songs that resonated with modern issues and made us “feel good” and well entertained. A “Tour de Force” performance by all that we are already eager to see again when they return.

    Disappointed on multiple levels

by Rick R. on 9/9/19Ryman Auditorium - Nashville

I was unable to attend due to a sudden illness and hospitalization in our family. Really disappointed we couldn't make the show, but even more disappointing I wasn't allowed to resell or even give my tickets to friends I have in Nashville. I made multiple attempts to contact Ticketmaster support but couldn't ever get back the bots and automated attendees to talk with a human. So tow empty seats at the show. Thank goodness I purchased ticket insurance (my first time ever). We'll see how that goes with the claim. The final takeaway is that I hated everything about this ticket experience.

    Smaller venue, large performance

by RM on 4/19/19Taft Theatre - Cincinnati

Taft is an outstanding venue for a band such as Mandolin Orange, which provided a memorable performance. Good sound and sight lines. As is typical, there was standing room only. My suggestion is to provide 40-50 high top tables, positioned throughout the room so concert attendees can have a place to place their belongings and beverages.

    Pure Magic!

by Folkfan on 4/13/19The Pageant - St Louis

The Mandolin Orange show at The Pagent was pure magic! The sound technician did an excellent job on the sound, the best that I’ve heard from any venue. it was absolutely clear and you could hear all of the beautiful harmonizing, and all of the spectacular nuances of incredible details and dynamics that Andrew, Emily, Josh, Clint & Joe bring to every performance instrumentally and vocally. And Emily and Andrew’s voices when harmonizing together are so beautifully melded. Charlie Parr put on a great performance as the opener too. The energy and connection to the audience from all of the performers was quite palpable. The Pageant was a wonderful venue to see Mandolin Orange at. The floor had multiple tears of tables and chairs with ample room between them as well as stools with counter space so that you could have a place to put your drinks. And because the venue had multiple tiers of platforms on the floor and seating it made it easy for everyone to have a clear view of all of the performers. And the staff was very nice and attentive. And all areas, including the bathrooms, were nice and clean and neat. We had just seen Mandolin Orange two nights prior at a different venue and the show at The Pageant was made more enjoyable by far because of the quality of the production of the sound and the nice atmosphere at The Pageant. The audience was much more respectful at The Pageant show too and I believe the this in part might have been due to the atmosphere of The Pageant and because of a show that has tables and chairs is much more conducive to an audience that is quiet and respectful vs. an audience that is more interested in talking, drinking and ignoring the performers. The Pageant is the best place for a relatively large audience to see a show. We have seen Mandolin Orange perform about ten times. Every time that we see Mandolin Orange perform it is absolutely a treat, they put their heart and souls into every performance and always give a spectacular performance. The first time we saw them perform it was just Andrew and Emily at a small coffee house in New Hampshire where we were just a few feet from them and that show was amazing and this show at The Pageant was spectacular, perhaps our two most favorite shows that we have attended from them, although it would be hard to tell because every show they perform is absolutely spectacular and we see them every opportunity that we can they are absolutely our favorite performers.

    Connected

    by j. on 3/20/19Moore Theatre - Seattle

Mandolin Orange are wonderful musicians who can connect across an amphitheater- or in this case- from the bottom floor of a skyscraper to the top. (The Moore’s balcony is not for the height averse.) Will see them any chance I get.

Wonderful date night at the Moore Theatre!

by DPL on 3/12/19Moore Theatre - Seattle

The opening act Mapache was really good, but I would have preferred a longer set by Mandolin Orange. I was hoping for a few more of my favorites, along with all the great songs off their new album. They only played one encore song. :( Picked up a signed copy of Tides of a Teardrop at the merch table.

Sound Editing Lacking & Plastic Cups Inconvenience

by Amy on 3/12/19Moore Theatre - Seattle

Hi - thanks for having Mandolin Orange. They are one of my all-time favorite bands. I loved the performance and staff. The sound editing was lacking. During the their vocals, the pitch was too high and could have been mellowed out/damped at a little bit. Just seemed to pierce my ears like it never has before at a concert. Additionally, STG needs to revamp the plastic cups initiative. It needs to be OBVIOUS to the consumer, which performances allow plastic cups into the venue and which don't. I carry these cumbersome, huge plastic cups on public transportation to the venue only to find out they aren't using them. Then I don't bring it to next one, only to learn they ARE using them. This is a poor practice that is inconvenient to the customer. Otherwise, thanks for hiring friendly staff that are understanding, helpful and courteous. I love going to these historic theaters!
