Madness on Tour

Over 40 years since the release of their debut album, UK's ska survivors Madness remain committed to taking fans one step beyond. With six of their seven original members still reporting to active duty, Madness have retained their reputation as one of Britain's most joyful and energetic live bands, with a deep repertoire of over 20 UK Top 40 hits to pull from. Tellingly, the band capped their 2019 campaign with three nights at London's legendary Roundhouse venue, for an event they dubbed "Past Present Future" — which suggests this veteran crew still has much skanking left to do. Whether you catch them in a club or at a summer festival, an evening of nonstop dancing and pint-sloshing sing-alongs is guaranteed.

Madness in Concert

Though they emerged as part of the two-tone ska scene that flourished in late-'70s England, Madness eventually distanced themselves from their punkier peers by fashioning a more quintessentially British pop sensibility and maintaining a permanent presence near the top of the UK charts for much of the '80s. After party-crashing the mainstream with irreverent skanking classics like "One Step Beyond" and "Baggy Trousers," Madness revealed a more sanguine side with 1981's hit cover of the ‘70s pop confection "It Must Be Love" and the eternally anthemic "Our House," which became their one and only Top 10 single in the U.S. But while the hit parade had slowed down by the '90s, Madness' influence was filtering down to acts ranging from No Doubt to Blur to The Streets, setting the stage for Madness' 21st-century renaissance. In 2009, the band released their first album of original material in a decade, The Liberty of Norton Folgate, an ambitious song cycle that catapulted the group back into the UK Top 5 and proved this group was not about to recede into the oldies circuit.

It was my first time seeing Madness after being a fan for decades, and they put on a fantastic show. All the songs you know and love, plus some top notch covers from Prince Buster, Max Romeo and more. Great to see such a packed audience as well. One step beyond!

  • Fantastic, from start to finish!

by John on 6/2/24MGM Music Hall at Fenway - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

What a wonderful gig! The opening act Fishbone were wonderful, high energy, engaging the crowd, a proper fit , for the occasion. And, then Madness took the stage, and from the first song to the last, they were absolute class! Every song you wanted to hear, you heard. Suggs, was engaging and charismatic, as were all the boys, Lee, Bedders, Chrissie Boy, Barso....gutted not to see Woody or Chas, but, that aside, just a wonderful show. The MGM Fenway was a great venue too. Madness, brilliant ! Thank you :-D

  • Madness has still got "It"!!

by Tom on 6/2/24MGM Music Hall at Fenway - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

Waited 4 years for Madness to make it to the States once the pandemic hit in 2020. It was worth the wait!! The band was in terrific form at MGM-Fenway Wednesday night! Sugg and the boys were amazing and had a great time, as did the audience! Bring 'em back to the States again soon!!

  • Knew only one song, was humming several the next day

by flasheeprom on 6/2/24MGM Music Hall at Fenway - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

They were kind of low key after Fishbone, but there are few bands that could ever follow Fishbone. Which is probably why I respected Madness the most. Madness following Fishbone is like KlSS following Rush. Completely different, on paper disjointed, but in the end, really a great idea. That's because both bands are secure in their identity and can pull off a great show on their own terms. Which is what you got from Madness, since you're asking me about Madness. Musicianship excellent, stage show subdued but definitely engaging. I liked them. I have to write that Fishbone, with so many new members and little time to prepare, pulled off a great show. It will be a while before they can pull off the acoustic guitar and horn obbligato of Sunless Saturday, but that is to be expected. And even if they want to be a different band and play fewer oldies, that's fine. Fishbone is a vibe, and you can get it from them in many ways without having to hear again the finest song ever written.

  • Madness!

by Anna on 6/1/24MGM Music Hall at Fenway - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

I thought the venue was excellent. What I like most about it was there was an option to upgrade. The seats we had were Loge 25 from original floor general admission. But what a view. Only downside to get a bottle water they charged 7.00 for a water which was absurd.

  • I hope they had as much fun as we did.

by May on 6/1/24MGM Music Hall at Fenway - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

Magic. It was like being back in the 80s. We all looked a bit older, but everyone danced, stayed out late, and had a grand time. The new songs are great. Normally, when those get trotted out, it’s the perfect time to use the bathroom. Good thing I went before hand. Awesome show.

  • A long-awaited US concert!

by Darthpaul85 on 6/1/24MGM Music Hall at Fenway - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

I have been waiting years, decades, to see Madness live in the US. They were exactly what I hoped they would be! Albiet older, the nutty boys still sound great! There's something special about that Madness energy- it's infectious, it's fun, and people were dancing to it all night! The lineup was a great crowd-pleaser, covering all the best-known hits plus a few of their newer singles over the last few years. Personally, I was hoping for more "deep cuts"in the show, but I am not disappointed they went with the classics 70% of the time. Stick around at the end- they do an encore and it's likely to include a song or two that you've expected to hear. Also, with Fishbone as an opener, this was a fantastic and fun night of music.

Didnt disappoint from start to finish played alot of songs I wanted to hear. Everyone was singing and dancing and after lights came on we were all dancing and singing. It was very euphoric and we had a conga line and people joined. Fun nite and Madness was madness

  • Great Band / Great Venue

by RadioJimi on 6/1/24MGM Music Hall at Fenway - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

I appreciated the fact that Madness had an 'all ages' show on May 29, 2024 at MGM Fenway. My 17 year old son and 23 year old daughter enjoyed Madness and the opening band Fishbone. The mix of the sound was terrific.. we were on the floor and the view was outstanding. MGM Fenway is a GEM - Madness was exceptional! For a band that began in the late 70's.. they had energy! The only issue.. and it's not exclusive to MGM Fenway.. are the drink prices.. a bit much.. but otherwise a fun night with my kids!

  • Great sound. Great fun!

by Green Day on 5/31/24YouTube Theater - InglewoodRating: 5 out of 5

Opening bands, The Untouchables and Berlin, performed just the right amount before Madness came on. Madness was a bit delayed at the start but cranked out some great stuff, leaving their best for last and a no nonsense encore (iykyk). Great show overall!!!

  • Madness in May

by Peterl on 5/30/24Fox Theater - Oakland - OaklandRating: 5 out of 5

Great to see Madness back after a couple of cancellations. Lines to get in the theatre went by quickly. Opening act Save Ferris was fun as usual and good warm -up to the main show. Madness sounded great and they played a nice selection of songs from their many hits and had the crowd up on their feet especially at the end.

  • Concert with too much bass sounds

by Bronski Beat on 5/30/24YouTube Theater - InglewoodRating: 3 out of 5

From start to finish the 3 bands played with too much bass sounds from the bass guitars & bass drums becoming overwhelmingly muffled. The sound engineers should do a better job of mixing. It’s the very first time we’ve seen a concert in YouTube theater & had to travel from AZ to be with close friends from CA to see one if these legendary bands from the 80’s. Other than that the bands performances & lighting effects were great overall.

  • Wonderful step back in time

    by John B on 5/29/24YouTube Theater - InglewoodRating: 5 out of 5

The band was great! I was transported to the days of my youth. Once again listening to the music that made me dance and rejoice. A must see if you were a fan "back in the day"and a MUST see if you are new to their music. The band did not disappoint. I danced the whole night

  • Magnificent

What a day. Brought back 80's memories. So happy I had the opportunity to take my family and a couple of friends. Hey, my daughters weren't even born when we discovered "Madness", so this was a blessing. Everything was great, sheer joy. Thank you Madness, we will always cherish you, tata

  • Madness? I Call It Gladness!

    by Ed H on 5/29/24YouTube Theater - InglewoodRating: 5 out of 5

AWESOME SHOW AND VENUE!!!! The lineup was great from top to bottom. Both The Untouchables and Berlin got things rolling with their usual energy and consistent perfection. I hadn't seen Madness live since their Mad, Not Mad tour in the mid-80's and their "rocksteady beat"was just as solid and entertaining as ever. Can't wait to see all 3 bands again!
