    Almost perfect

by Anonymous on 4/5/11Aladdin Theater - Portland

Madeleine Peyroux's concert was like a private soiree with a select group of appreciative fans. She knew we love to hear her, and we did. But -- going out, I overheard the amazed and wowed comments of several folks who DIDN'T already know of her and were brought there by friends -- come to think of it, I brought someone like that with me -- and they love her now, too.

Great concert, funky venue. First time hearing Peyroux live. Even better than recording, she really shines in live performance. Band wonderful too.

    Tired and weary

by JoeVan on 8/12/09The Centre In Vancouver for Performing Arts - Vancouver

Love her voice, great sound to the band, but I was looking for more - more of a segue between songs, more rapport with the audience. This felt tired and casual. The audience was pumped to see her but it didn't feel the same from them.

    Madeleine Peyroux at Villa Montalvo

by Sunqwn on 8/9/09Montalvo - Saratoga

This venue never disappoints. We had last seen Madeleine at The Mountain Winery and thought that was an intimate show. Well, it was nothing compared to Montalvo. Unfortunately the venue was only about 2/3s filled. Maybe the economy is finally hitting the niche acts like Madeleine. But we thouroughly enjoed ourselves aand were pleasantly surprised by the opener, Holly Williams.

    Amazing Madi!

by MontereyMan on 8/9/09Montalvo - Saratoga

Madeleine Peyroux is the Billy Holliday of our time, yet she defies definition with her unique vocal style and interpretation of classics, as well her multi-level songwriting. It was a tough crowd at the Villa Montalvo, but dear Madeleine managed to melt everyone's hearts by playing and singing from the ground through her heart to the top of her head. The band is superb. They peaked with tight arrangements of traditional jazz. Each musician is a virtuoso in their own light. Ms. Peyroux is still relatively young, and while she has grown significantly in the last few years, the stars are still her playground, and hopefully there is a lot more to come from this beautiful songbird. c'est bonne!! It was just so very, very good!!

by penner on 8/7/09Montalvo - Saratoga

Ah! MP was just herself-- relaxed, confident, happy to be singing, and enjoying herself and appreciating her fellow musicians enormously! The piano player is worth his weight in gold!! Oh, I just want to learn how to sing in French! Certainly not a full house but everyone there was a dedicated FAN so there was a good feel to the evening. And out under the sky---totally MP!!

    Captivating

by Fuad on 8/7/09Montalvo - Saratoga

From the start of the show through the encore, Madeleine was captivating... She moved about the stage creating such a comfortable and intimate atmosphere in the cool air of the outdoor venue at Montalvo. She made the her singing seem almost effortless, producing the most beautiful sounds. Incredible show... the band was also exceptional.

    Unique musical evening

by dapuzzo on 8/7/09Montalvo - Saratoga

Madeleine Peyroux has a magical voice - blending the smoothness of American jazz with a lyrical lilt of Paris, with a little bit of pop and twang thrown in as well... Her lyrics are beautiful and she delivers a wonderful evening of music. Her band are accomplished musicians and the whole group looks like they are having fun on stage...it's infectious - so the crowd has fun as well. Highly recommend her!

    Madeleine is Great!

by EvaSue on 8/7/09Montalvo - Saratoga

This was our 3rd time seeing Madeleine Peyroux. Her sultry voice is so reminiscent of artists of old that you could close your eyes and think you're back in time. Staring up at the sky as the sun was setting, listening to great jazzy music, and being surrounded by nature...what more could you ask for?

    We want more

by FrankinLex on 7/21/09Berklee Performance Center - Boston

I have been a Madeline Peyroux fan for years now, and enjoy the subtly of her phrasing of a variety of standards. She is much more than a "Billie Holliday" interpreter. Ms. Peyroux performed her best when the volume and the speed of the music slowed down - especially "La Javanaise" and "J'ai deux amours." She's definitely at her best when she sings husky, intimately and hushed. I hope she comes again soon to show more of that side of her repertoire.

    Madeleine Peyroux & Bruce Cockburn

by MoeL on 7/21/09Town Hall - New York

Bruce Cockburn was great-could have listened to him all night! We've seen him a couple of times and he never fails to entertain with a mix of his songs. Madeleine was amazing. It was our first time seeing her and were surprised at how much we enjoyed her show. It was our first time at Town Hall and loved it-the sound, the decor & the staff. The location was great with a wide choice of restaurants

    Madeline Peyroux was forgettable...

    by bsjohns1 on 7/18/09Lisner Auditorium - Washington

I'm not entirely sure what happened with Madeline Peyroux at Lisner Auditorium. Maybe it was bad acoustics or just an off performance, but it wasn't good at all. Yes there were moments where she shined, especially her songs in French, but, overall she was missing that certain something. In general, her band over-powered her vocals. Her interaction with the audience was uncomfortable. I was disappointed because I truly enjoy her studio work. Other people I spoke with felt the same way. Somebody mentioned that she had just returned from touring in Europe, so perhaps that was the deal. I may give her another try, probably not at Lisner Auditorium though. I have seen one other show at Lisner (the Avett Brothers) and, although the energy was wonderful., the acoustics were poor.

    Peyroux was hot and cold

by aldb on 7/17/09Berklee Performance Center - Boston

Truly in her element with the french songs and the waltzes. Seemed to struggle a little on some of the more contemporary pieces. Enjoyed the more intimate backing band configuration. Peyroux shines in a more classic torch singer role.

    Great show

by Sadey on 7/17/09Berklee Performance Center - Boston

Great performance. Loved hearing both the new material and some of the older material. Madeleine Peyroux definitely brings something special to the live performance which is both the same and different than the recordings.

    Madeleine

    by kpowers83 on 7/17/09Lisner Auditorium - Washington

I had never seen Madeleine Peyroux before--just had a couple of CD's. Not a glitzy production, thankfully, just an honest, straight forward concert. She doesn't have a lot to say on stage but she can really entertain with her voice and her band. Thoroughly enjoyed it. One drawback was the venue. The Lisner does not provide a lot of leg room. To give you an idea, airline seating is more spacious than at the Lisner.

    Very Enjoyable

by JudyJudy on 7/17/09Berklee Performance Center - Boston

The performance was great, the acoustics of the auditorium were wonderful. We were not told of an opening act, but others evidently knew this, so people were streaming in for the first hour. We could have h ad dinner if we had known that Ms. Peyroux was not going to appear until an hour after the start time. She was awesome, by the way.

    Peyroux was fantastic

by KateM on 7/17/09Berklee Performance Center - Boston

Madeleine Peyroux's delivery was so dramatic - she acted out her songs. A real performer - quite European in flavor. One of a kind!
