About

About Made in America Festival

There's only one Jay-Z, the self-made billionaire who channeled an impoverished life of crime into a prolific hip-hop career — and ultimately one of the most impressive and improbable personal fortunes in the entire world. There's also only one Made in America Festival, the annual genre-spanning musical extravaganza curated by Jay-Z himself and produced by Live Nation.

Jay founded Made in America in 2012, and it's taken over Philadelphia's Benjamin Franklin Parkway every year since (with a concurrent appearance in Los Angeles in 2014). His purpose, as Jay explained in Ron Howard's 2013 documentary about the festival, is to unite the people of America under the banner of our shared musical culture. "It's a bigger idea than just a concert," Jay said. "We all have the same struggles, the same dreams."

When it comes to scoring the talent for each year's festival, it helps that Jay-Z has perhaps the deepest Rolodex in all of pop culture. He and his wife Beyonce have both performed in past years, of course, as have blockbuster artists like The National, Pearl Jam, Rihanna, Run-DMC, Bassnectar, Kanye West, and Coldplay.

Made in America 2018 featured the fest's most robust incarnation yet, spanning two days in Philadelphia and headlined by Nicki Minaj, Post Malone, Kendrick Lamar, Janelle Monae, and Miguel. With that kind of star power serving as the festival standard, 2019 promises another world-class lineup, returning to Ben Franklin Parkway August 31 and September 1.

The 2019 festival again will host Cause Village, a public area where 50-plus charitable organizations come together as a hub for social action. The festival also will have the midway rides and games, art installations, and mega-budget stage and light production that make Made in America the most unique and spectacular festival experience in the country.

    Pearl Jam incredible as always

by char1024 on 9/3/12Ben Franklin Parkway - Philadelphia

It was well organized and secure BUT as a disabled person I had requested for the disabled viewing area and after 3 attempts for accommodations not one response for accommodation so never again. I will now only go to seated concerts. I am legally blind and was treated very badly. I couldn't see got pushed and shoved. Never again. There should be something set up for those like myself who want to see as much as they can yet are not even considered for any type of set up. Next time remember people like us are concert goers too!!!!

    Great experience

by BouchBouch on 9/3/12Ben Franklin Parkway - Philadelphia

This event was awesome. There was something for everyone. The only thing I didn't like was how HIGH the prices were for everything and they didn't even let you bring your own water in. So everyone was forced to buy $4 water or something even more expensive. Other than that, the performances were great and the atmosphere was wonderful.

    Loved it

by jd1989 on 9/3/12Ben Franklin Parkway - Philadelphia

This was an amazing concert! I thought nothing could top Jay-Z/Kanye from Saturday, but then Jay-Z showed up at the end of Pearl Jam's epic set! It was an amazing two-day event.

    Jay-Z was phenomenal!

by Anonymous on 9/3/12Ben Franklin Parkway - Philadelphia

Jay-Z was amazing. However the rest of the acts were not. Fortunately his performance made up for all of the waiting around all day. Wish there would've been more acts in the same/similar music genre.

I have 3 favorite songs. 2 were played here!!!!!!!

by seamonster1021 on 9/3/12Ben Franklin Parkway - Philadelphia

The atmosphere was amazing. Everyone who attended was there for fun, music, meeting new people and PEACE. Two days of music is just what was needed to start the school year off right. This was a perfect weekend for the event and perfect location. When the festival happens next year it should be kinda guided towards Woodstock. If we got to camp overnight from Sat-Sun, the experience would have been even better! I CANT WAIT TILL NEXT YEAR.

    JayZ's performance was the best!

by BubblyOne on 9/3/12Ben Franklin Parkway - Philadelphia

Awesome performances, I enjoyed everyone. I wish there was more food options. What they had was very expensive and not very good. Bathrooms were horrible, and there were beer cans everywhere.

    Impressed

by JayJ23 on 9/3/12Ben Franklin Parkway - Philadelphia

Was unsure how the city would pull this festival off but I was very impressed. Everything was laid out very well and the event was well organized and managed. I would definitely attend another concert at Ben Franklin Parkway.

    Hov does it again!!

by Brielleloveshiphop on 9/3/12Ben Franklin Parkway - Philadelphia

The festival was absolutely amazing! Day 1 was slightly better than Day 2, but I enjoyed all the performances none the less. Jay Z was my favorite performance for both nights tho!! And the surprise performers (Kanye, 2 Chains, Big Sean) made it even more amazing! GREAT lineup both days!!

    I would only reccommend if....

by Anonymous on 9/3/12Ben Franklin Parkway - Philadelphia

4 stars because kanye west ruined the entire made in America weekend. I hate writtng a poor review about someone doing there job. Hov said he was gonna bring out some one every one wanted and 30 thousand people said no way Skrillex is coming out!!!! Only to be disappointed it was someone else and then kanye comes out and just starts yelling on stage. Maybe he was "rapping" I wasn't really sure. I am sure I saw about 10 thousand people sit down though and at least half of them fell aslee. So here's to hoping kanye west never comes to Philadelphia again.
