About

M.I.A. IN CONCERT:

M.I.A. has led the way for women in hip-hop ever since her fearless lyrics and gutsy stagewear propelled her to fame in the early '00s. The Academy Award and Grammy Award-nominated rapper is known for pushing the boundaries with her live performances as she mixes jungle and world music with modern rap and electronica amid artistic stage designs. Whether she's performing game-changers like "Paper Planes" or spitting fan favorites like "Galang," the dynamic British artist will treat fans to her hit-filled sets on tour with A$AP Ferg and Elliphant in 2014.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Born Mathangi "Maya" Arulpragasam, M.I.A. got her start as a designer and filmmaker before deciding to pursue her music career full-time in 2002. Experimenting with beats in her bedroom, she released her 2005 debut Arular, which was inspired by her father and their experiences in her childhood home of Sri Lanka. The album was met with universal acclaim, landing her on tour with LCD Soundsystem and Gwen Stefani and launching her to a new level of stardom. Since then, M.I.A. has released three studio albums, including 2013's Matangi, been nominated for numerous awards, and collaborated with some of music's biggest stars including Jay-Z and Madonna. With a laundry list of hits in her repertoire, it's no surprise she made Rolling Stone's "Best of the Decade" list in the 00's and was named one of the World's 100 Most Influential People by Time Magazine. Back on the road, M.I.A. continues to push the limits as she rocks the mic on her upcoming tour dates.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"M.I.A.'s energy and connection with the crowd made this by far one of the dopest concerts I've ever been to!"

"This was an amazing show hands-down!! From the awesome on-stage light display to her dancing and interactions with the audience, M.I.A. really knows how to wow a crowd. I wish I could follow her on tour because it would probably be a party every night!"

"M.I.A.'s performance was so sick! Loved the stage, the lights, the colors, and M.I.A.'s rad style and swag!!"

DON’T GO, ITS NOT WORTH IT

by Omarr on 11/5/17Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

She sings terribly in person, and her other songs are really weird. My favorites of hers are borders, paper planes, and bad girls and she even performed those terribly you could barely hear her voice and it was terrible. Yikes stay away waste of my money. I was upset I thought she’d be way better.

Bass and More Bass All Night Long

by SPANGLISHPOP on 7/9/14The Belasco Theater - Los Angeles

Bass was off the hook, the walls were shaking. Great small venue to see MIA do her thing. I've been waiting too long to see her live in LA, glad it was at this small show. Worth every dollar.

MIA was awesome! I just wished that the venue had done a better job of setting MIA's mic correctly so that she didn't have to keep asking for the volume to be higher.

    M.I.A. is amazing!!!

by Boombasticfan on 6/3/14Boulevard Pool–Mophie Stage at the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas - Las Vegas

M.I.A's show was awesome! Loved the flow of the show and the remixes of her popular songs. So cool seeing her in person rocking it with her backup dancers and when she let the audience go up on stage! My only wish is that they TURNED UP HER VOCALS!!!! The sound guy was awful, even after they told him to turn it up!!!

MIA came back with power power

by Phresh702 on 6/3/14Boulevard Pool–Mophie Stage at the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas - Las Vegas

Best non stop dance party ever! Just a little short. I would have loved to here more. Then again tickets were only $30. Not a bad deal.

M.I.A. was MIA for almost two hours!!!

by ConcettaItali on 6/3/14Boulevard Pool–Mophie Stage at the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas - Las Vegas

The show was good overall; however M.I.A. came on two hours late, which for her caliber of a performer is ridiculous!!! That would fly if she were maybe Madonna or Paul McCartney. That was the only thing that killed it for me. We almost left the venue!

    MIA

by GBattle on 6/3/14Boulevard Pool–Mophie Stage at the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas - Las Vegas

It was perfect night for her concert at the boulevard pool. The Only thing that she didn't do was an Encore.

M.I.A at the Shrine in Los ANgeles

by TangerineEyes on 6/2/14Shrine Expo Hall - Los Angeles

The boyfriend and I got these tickets for $100, we thought it would be so cool to cross out one of the most badass female artist off our list. It was not worth that much. MIA is a great producer, she works with amazingly talented artists, however we all know that her singing is not the best. And it didn't help that the sound was muffled as well as low. The show was also only one hour long with no other bands playing. Definitely not worth 50$. We have to give props to the crowd for their spirit and style to support the artist. However, it doesn't seem like she gave as much back to the crowd. She pulled a lot of people up to dance on stage, which rather than a big dance party just turned into everyone taking pictures of everyone taking a selfies. Dissapointed, not fun, bucket list checked.

    big disappointment

by Anonymous on 6/2/14Shrine Expo Hall - Los Angeles

my heart exploded when I found out MIA was going to do a show in LA. I counted down the days, the hours, down to the minutes. When I arrived, the crowd was friendly and vibing. But the show itself was horrible. The intermissions were excessively long and annoying. When MIA finally and briefly came on for her set, she got the crowd pumped and going. But what really urked me, was how swiftly she bounced after her last song. No goodbyes, no thankyous. The lights turned on and it was over. It was such a disappointment.

    expected a lot more!

Everything from the venue's staff to the actual show was a let down. For $45? Not worth it.

M.I.A. Has Double Bubble Trouble But Still Slays

by hhillsbill on 6/1/14Shrine Expo Hall - Los Angeles

M.I.A. had to overcome less than ideal conditions and far less than capacity crowd, but still put on an excellent,if too short, show. It's great that the Shrine Expo Hall is back in business as a concert venue. Jimi Hendrix played here. But Goldenvoice has to put some money into the place starting by replacing the lousy sound system. The vocals were completely unintelligible. By contrast when Maya was at the Belasco a few months ago the sound was excellent and ambience far superior. If GV wants to make this joint their answer to Live Nation's Palladium they've got some work to do. It could be a great venue. Back to M.I.A. She dropped the drummer and awesome DJ she had last year and no encore but I still love her!

MIA, Angel Haze and the venue were all great. The bar had fantastic drinks and the crowd was really hyped up. My only complaint was that MIA could have been on the stage for longer, but other than that she was an excellent performer.

    Expectations Met

by coronaborealis on 6/1/14Shrine Expo Hall - Los Angeles

I have been dying to see M.I.A for a long time, and when I saw that tickets were only 45 to see her here in LA, I immediately got mine. There's plenty of parking around the Shrine Expo but it was 20 dollars, which sucked. The place was surprisingly spacious and was not stuffy at all which I really liked. M.I.A's stage set up was AWESOME and her performance killed me. She kept up the energy the whole time, it was an absolute blast. I'd love to see her again!!
